Fresh, Biblical Look #8 Aligning the ‘BIG PICTURE‛ with the ‘DETAILS‛ GOD views Loving Him & treating others as we would want to be treated as equal. Get this right & we‛ve nailed the details, too! The ONLY thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. -Paul in Galatians 5:6 (NIV) Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.‛ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.‛ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” -Jesus in Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV). 1 2 The Law & Prophets - the ENTIRE Hebrew Bible - was written to teach us how to: 1) Love GOD 2) Love others When Jesus replaced the Old Covenant with the New Covenant He gave us 1 command & raised the bar: 1) Love others as I have loved you No details to get confused. No language to be twisted. No loopholes to find. Just love others as I have loved you: Jesus prioritizes people over religions, beliefs, or missions. If the Blues Brothers had been on a real mission from GOD, Jesus would have required wearing seat belts, obeying the speed limit, being humble, kind, gentle, and patient to everyone they met. If the mission took longer than planned, Jesus would have stretched time. Jesus invites us into a changed life of freedom from the law and the law keepers; into a grown-up relationship with Him where He teaches us the reasons behind the rules. Go ahead and obey GOD anyway if you don‛t understand, but avoid subjugating others. GOD‛s standards have always been higher than simple rule keeping. This is simpler, but much harder to do. I would say it‛s impossible without Jesus‛ Holy Spirit inside you. Sex outside of a committed, loving relationship is using the other person. If you think a man & woman having sex outside of marriage is better than two men or two women having sex outside of marriage, you have (sadly) missed the point.
