SQUAMISH LIL’WAT CULTURAL CENTRE The Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre
(SLCC) is the first centre of its kind in Canada. Two nations came together to celebrate and share their
cultures with the world while creating meaningful employment opportunities for members of both
the Squamish (Coast Salish) and the Lil’wat (Interior Salish) Nations. Designed to evoke the form of a
Squamish Longhouse and earthen dwelling, the SLCC embodies the spirit of partnership between two
unique Nations who wish to preserve, grow, and share their traditional cultures.

ABOUT WHISTLER IN THE FALL Fall is the season between September and snow,
gloriously colorful with a unique, laid-back pace. Seasons only change for the better here and fall is
no exception with its own festivals, specials and activities that are best enjoyed while the leaves turn.
• Temperatures start to fall and leaves on deciduous trees change color - brilliant yellow, red,
orange and gold
• Animals are feeding and storing food for the winter as snow begins to dust the mountain tops
• Salmon may be seen spawning in creeks and rivers
• The forest is cool and damp - excellent conditions for the growth of mushrooms
• Bald Eagles begin to arrive in the area south of Whistler
• Bear viewing tours continue, eagle tours begin and activities like fishing, ziplining and tree top
adventures in the rainforest are popular
BLACK BEAR
ANIMALS AROUND WHISTLER Whistler’s natural surroundings provide ideal homes
for many different species of wildlife, including bears, cougars, deer, marmots, pika, hares, squirrels,
chipmunks, otters, beavers and more. The marmot (a rock-dwelling rodent), is what gave Whistler
its name. Marmots whistle to warn other marmots of potential danger and their calls can be heard
throughout Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains where they live.
BEARS IN WHISTLER
It’s not uncommon to witness a black bear wandering through the trails, mountainside or parks looking
for berries. From mid-March to November bears are active and looking for food. Often, their appetite
draws them to urban areas with garbage which is why there are bear-proof litter bins throughout
Whistler Village.
BIRDS
Whistler is on the natural migratory route for numerous bird species
from hummingbirds to bald eagles. Some birds like the Stellar’s Jay,
Ptarmigan and Whiskey Jack live in Whistler all year round. Keep
your eyes open — their curious nature may bring them closer than
you think, especially when you’re eating.
If you love winged creatures, it may be worth coming in early winter.
Each year thousands of Bald Eagles gather on the Squamish River
Valley to feast on the spawning salmon. The world record for an eagle
count was in 1994 at 3,769 in a single day!
BALD EAGLE
AQUATIC LIFE
The lakes, rivers and wetlands around Whistler are home to various species including Salmon, Rainbow
Trout and protected Western Horned Toads.
FORESTS
There is an incredible variety of plant life around Whistler. You can see many varieties of trees such as
pine, cedar, hemlock and evergreen, plus a multitude of smaller plants, lichens, mosses and wildflowers
depending on the season. Hiking, tree trekking and ziplining are all great ways to get out into the trees.

DAY 2:
BIG SKY GOLF CLUB
Big Sky Golf Club, Pemberton BC
18 holes, Par 72
BIG SKY...ENDLESS VIEWS
Get ready to breathe deep the crisp, clean mountain air. Then line up your shot, with the everpresent
and massive Mount Currie always keeping watch over the Pemberton Valley. Almost
every hole is breathtaking with scenery surrounded by mountains. There are streams and a lake
on the course and native grasses off the fairways. The greens are well maintained and fast with
lots of challenges along the way.
Big Sky Golf Club is the premiere public golf course in Pemberton & Whistler, BC. Designed by
Robert (Bob) Cupp in 1993, it has since matured into one of the top golf courses in Canada.
On what was essentially a potato field, Cupp laid out a stunning track that includes seven lakes
and a serpentine creek that comes into play on many holes. Doglegs both left and right, long
holes that play into the prevailing wind, strategic bunkering and risk-reward options at every
hole make Big Sky a memorable challenge.
Tree planting was purposely kept to a minimum to preserve the incredible panoramic views of
Mount Currie, which rises 2,591 metres (8,500 feet) above sea level. Stand on the long, par-4
14th tee deck and notice how your drive seems to hang suspended in air against the backdrop
of this majestic mountain!
Big Sky is consistently ranked as one of the top golf courses in British Columbia & Whistler and
has received numerous accolades and recognition over the years including two recent ones:
#4 of BC’s Top Public Golf Courses in Canada (2018)
#3 of the Top 10 World’s Most Beautiful Sports Arena/Venues (2017)
DAY 3 & DAY 6: NICKLAUS NORTH GOLF CLUB
Snowcapped Whistler peaks. A brilliant emerald-colored lake. Majestic fir trees. Fresh, invigorating
mountain air. Whistler Golf at its Finest.
Nestled at the base of the majestic Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, and along the shores of
glacial fed Green Lake, lies the legacy of a legend. Nicklaus North Golf Course, designed by Jack
Nicklaus, boasts breathtaking scenery, exceptional guest service, unmatched course conditioning and
challenging course design; everything that true legends are made of.
This “Signature Design” par 71, 6961 yard Championship course offers five sets of tees combining
challenge and enjoyment for all golfers. The course winds along a gentle valley floor offering you a
spectacular setting as your golfing skills are tested to the fullest. Its generous fairways and greens
are large, receptive and impeccably manicured. An environmentally-conscious project, completed
with awareness and sensitivity towards the area’s natural habitat, this course was built to the highest
specifications using premium golf course construction technology.
Winner of numerous awards since its opening in 1996, Nicklaus North has played host to events such
as the Skins Game and the Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf, welcoming some of golf’s biggest names
such as Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, Ernie Els, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, John Daly, Vijay Singh and
Stephen Ames to name a few.
Just minutes from the resort village of Whistler, British Columbia, Nicklaus North stands out as one
of the great courses in North America. It’s no wonder this is only one of a few rare golf courses in the
world bearing Jack Nicklaus’ name.
JACK NICKLAUS SIGNATURE DESIGN
• One of five courses in the world granted Nicklaus name
• Best New Course in Canada, Golf Digest
• Host to Nicklaus, Norman, Faldo, Els, Couples, Singh, Daly, Ames
• ScoreGolf Top 100 Courses in Canada, consistently Top 50
• ScoreGolf Top Public Courses in Canada, #7
• 4.5 Trip Advisor and Golf Digest Rating
• Voted the Best Golf Course in Whistler by Locals - Pique Magazine, 2013-2018
Jack Nicklaus was always considered a great iron player, and he believes that his par 3s should provide
the golfer with a good test. That is certainly the case at Nicklaus North where the layout offers five
par-3 holes, four of them over water. They include the stunning, signature 17th hole on the shores of
Green Lake. With five sets of tees for players to choose from, the hole can be downright intimidating
from the back at 226 yards, and a gentler challenge from the forward tees at only 135 yards. The tip
here? Choose the right set of tees for your playing ability!
DAY 5: WHISTLER GOLF CLUB
Welcome to Arnold Palmer’s first Canadian design, home to a truly “Whistler” brand of golf. While the
spectacular snowcapped mountain views, signature design and uncompromising course conditions
are standard fare, it is the friendly, relaxed and helpful personality of the course staff that makes a
Whistler Golf Club experience uniquely Whistler. We call it “Palmer’s Design, Whistler’s Attitude”.
Arnold Palmer-designed courses are renowned for their green sites and his Whistler layout is no
exception. The course is surrounded by old-growth cedars, five lakes and Crabapple Creek, which
winds its way strategically through the fairways. New bent-grass greens were installed in 2012 and
are often referred to as the firmest and fastest in the valley. Rolling undulations place a premium on
where the player leaves the ball in relation to the pin. No other hole exemplifies that better than the
par-3 eighth. If the pin is in a front-hole location and you’ve hit it to the back of the green, good luck
trying not to three-putt!
“THREE THINGS MAKE A GREAT GOLF COURSE: SCENERY, CHALLENGE
AND FUN; AND MY COURSE AT WHISTLER HAS THEM ALL.”
– ARNOLD PALMER
HOLE #10 WINDTALKER
A classic short par 4. This dogleg right is
guarded by a lake left and Crabapple creek
which lines the right side and cuts in front of
the green. Maybe the toughest second shot
on the course. Take two more clubs when the
wind is up.
HOLE #16 THE GALLERY
What a view! A good tee shot gives you a
chance to hit the green in two. Be careful, this
green is very well guarded by water and sand.
