is a non-profit

which helps members stay safely and

comfortably in their homes as they age.

Programs and services include

transportation, technology assistance,

pet walking, light home maintenance and

notification of social events.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)

is a unique community for lifelong learners

50 and over who want to learn new things

– without the stress of tests or grades!

Club OLLI offers a wide variety of courses

in art, film, health, history, literature, music

and science. There is also a book club and

periodic field trips.

Classes are held at Sierra College’s Nevada

County and Rocklin Campuses. There is a

nominal fee for each class (a few are free)

and a semester registration processing fee.

Annual membership in Club OLLI is $20.

A group of musicians gather every week on

the Sierra College Nevada County Campus

to rehearse classical music.

Many are retired. They make up the OLLI

Orchestra (see Education) which gives

local professional and amateur musicians

an opportunity to perform and play

together. Their schedule includes two free

community performances a year, in the

spring and fall.

If you would like to participate in track and

field but think that ship has sailed, think

again. Sierra Gold Masters track and field

team members range in age from 30 to 90

plus. Many compete in Masters national

and international championships.

The team includes a variety of skill levels.

More experienced members, including a

number who fall into groups over 50, have

brought home some impressive titles.



Community Services

With the motto “Food-Firewood-Fun-

Fitness,” Gold Country Senior Services

strives to meet the needs and interests

of seniors. Services include the Gold

Country Senior Cafe and Meals on

Wheels, blood pressure checks, activities

such as bingo and insurance counseling,

and exercise classes.

Sierra Senior Services in Truckee provides

congregate dining and Meals on Wheels.

They also offer blood pressure checks and

senior referrals.

FREED has been a resource for aging

and disability services since 1985, offering

independent living skills training, a fix-it

program, a device lending library and a

friendly visitor program. FREED volunteers

also call and chat with older adults who

are isolated or need someone to check-in

with them. A care transition program helps

seniors transition from hospital to home.
