EMERALD POOLS ON JORDAN CREEK

A walk out to the Emerald Pools can

reward you with a solitary nature experience

in late Fall. The trailhead is located

at the far side of the bridge that crosses

the South Fork of the Yuba River on

Bowman Lake Road. (PHOTO BY DAVID CROSS)

NEVADA COUNTY FIXER UPPER

Few things personify the spirit of the

Gold Rush days better than the plethora

of old miner’s shacks around the small

town of North Bloomfield. These

Nevada County fixer-uppers feature

natural air conditioning, open views,

mature landscaping and no pesky home

owner association fees. No reasonable

offer refused. (PHOTO BY DAVID CROSS)

DONNER LAKE SUNRISE

Red sky in the morning–sailors take warning!

Maybe not so true on Donner Lake.

The reward for the early riser is to be

awestruck by the colors and the unique

and historic landscape on display.

EDWARDS CROSSING BRIDGE

The Edwards Crossing Bridge, spanning

the South Yuba River was built in 1904.

This single lane bridge sports a steel

truss arch with a timber deck supported

on concrete piers. Take North Bloomfield

Road from Highway 49 and wind your

way down to the bridge. The road turns

to dirt on the far side of the bridge

and eventually ends in the town of

North Bloomfield. (PHOTO BY DAVID CROSS)
