Truckee River Regional Park

Legacy Trail, picnic areas, tennis, volleyball and basketball

courts, community garden, skateboard park,

Empire Mine State Historic Park

Grass Valley. Empire Mine was the oldest and one of the richest hardrock

gold mines in California. Now one of the area’s most popular attractions, visitors

will find restored buildings, exhibits, an illuminated mine shaft, blacksmith

shop and the Bourn’s Cotswold-style cottage. There is also a free picnic area

Donner Memorial State Park

Two miles west of Truckee just off I-80 at Exit 184 located on Donner

Lake. It includes the Pioneer Monument which honors those who

crossed the Sierra Nevada, a picnic area on the lake, swimming, fishing,

hiking, a lakeside interpretive trail and activities, also camping. The

park is open year around from sunrise to sunset. Campground Kiosk

VISITOR CENTER: Features interactive exhibits highlighting the

experiences of those crossing the Sierra including the Donner Party.

Also covers Native Americans and the Chinese construction of the

Condon Park

Grass Valley. Eighty acres, 3.5 miles of

wooded hiking trails (bylt.org), horseshoe

pits, disc golf course, arboretum, playground,

“nature trail” near pond, skate

park, picnic and barbeque areas, on-leash

dog trail, off-leash dog park. Fenced

playground for young children on Minnie

Street includes picnic facilities.

Memorial Park

Grass Valley. Picnic areas, swimming

pool, pickleball, Veterans’ Memorial Wall,

fenced playground. Off Hwy. 174, two

minutes from downtown Grass Valley.

Pioneer Park

Nevada City. Picnic areas and barbeques,

playground, swimming pool, bocce,

horseshoe and tennis courts, ballfield.
