An out and back mostly flat popular

wildflower hike in March, April and

May. Nice views of the river canyon,

access to many swimming holes.

BLACK SWAN TRAIL

Loop trail located in far Western Nevada

County near Smartsville. The trail weaves

through blue oak and gray pine woodlands

leading to Black Swan Pond with

abundant birdlife, possible otters,

Western pond turtles and other aquatic

Out and back easy/moderate trail

passes the Angkula Seo suspension

bridge highlighting the early native

Nisenan and Chinese people. It is linked

This easy 0.4 mile trail to the pond is

wheelchair accessible. Beyond the pond,

the trail narrows and meanders for 2 miles

through oak woodlands, pines and grasslands

Banner Mountain offering an almost level

walk along a peaceful canal.

INDEPENDENCE TRAIL WEST

Easy, nearly level, wheelchair accessible

from the trailhead for about 1.1 miles one

way. Interesting for its mining history, trail

includes wooden flumes. Flume 28, over

500 ft in length, crosses above a waterfall

on Rush Creek.

Loop trail good for all skill levels featuring

a waterfall and interpretive

signs. The trail is primarily used for walking

and nature trips and is fully accessible

for persons with mobility impairments.

LONEY MEADOW TRAIL

Easy to moderate loop trail with wonderful

wildflower displays in summer.

Interpretive signs for history, common

bird and animal species. This trail is considered

“difficult” for wheelchairs, due to

its one-mile length and uneven surface.

A paved out and back trail along the

Truckee River for bikers, runners,

dog walkers and families beginning at the

picturesque stream through lush

riparian forest to a meadow and ending

12 miles of proposed 23-mile multi-use

trail finished and available for public use.

through forest along the Cold Stream

Creek Canyon, the trail reaches the

GLACIER MEADOW LOOP TRAIL

Easy self-guided nature loop for spectacular

wildflowers in the spring and early

summer. Signs explain the glacial action

that carved and polished the surface

landscape.

3, 5, 13 miles

ROYAL GORGE TRAILS

Great wildflowers and views of headwaters

of the American and Yuba rivers

abound. Trails include Lyle’s Lookout (3-

miles), Rowton Peak (5-mile), Point Mariah

(5-mile), Royal Gorge Rim Trail (13-mile).
