event and follow it through?? We have some great activities that we do

GREEN TRAILS TENNIS

ACTIVATING THE LIGHTS: There is a timer switch on the Crescent Green

courts on the south side of court 1. The timer has a button, which cycles

through 15, 30, 45, 60 & 120 minutes and OFF. The lights on the pole on

the south side between courts 1 and 2 will act as a safety light. On the

Park Cypress court, there is a timer switch on the light pole as you enter.

COURT RESERVATIONS: Court Reservation signup sheets are posted on

the bulletin boards at both the Crescent Green and Park Cypress courts.

Residents must use last names only. Residents may reserve a court no

sooner than 48 hours in advance for a 1 1/2 hour time period only by

writing their last name on 3 blocks of the signup sheet. (Each block

represents 30 minutes). If your match extends beyond your reserved time

period and no one else is waiting to use the court, you are free to continue

playing. These rules are posted on the bulletin boards and are designed

to allow maximum court usage for all residents. For safety reasons, tennis

activities using a basket of balls are not permitted during prime time on the

Crescent Green courts. Multiple balls lying on the courts is a safety hazard

for others using the courts. Prime hours are every day, 8-10:30 AM and 6-9

PM. The court on Park Cypress is a single court on which multiple balls lying

on the ground is not a hazard to others. If you want to use a basket of balls,

reserve the court on Park Cypress.

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH AND ADHERE TO THE POSTED GREEN TRAILS

TENNIS COURT POLICIES CAN RESULT IN DEACTIVATION OF YOUR CARD

KEY FOR ONE MONTH.

Anyone, including tennis pros, wanting to reserve REGULAR court time

or to reserve the courts for a SPECIAL event in advance, must contact

the tennis committee for approval through Greg Kubala, 281-507-6343

or Jim Haylett, 281-795-3552.

LEAGUE TENNIS: Ladies HLTA and WHLTA tennis leagues are approved

to play on Mondays and Wednesdays in the Fall and Spring from 9 AM-12

PM. Currently there is a Champ 2 West team playing on Monday and a A-3

team playing on Wednesday. Our league rosters are currently full but if

you are interested in playing ladies league tennis contact Elaine Kearney

to get on a wait list for the following season, 281-492-6848.

MISCELLANOUS: ACCESS CARDS: New residents needing tennis/pool

access cards can contact Crest Management at 281-579-0761. Access

cards are for residents only. Please do not open the gates for anyone not

having a card. Do not loan out your card.

WEBSITE AND EBLAST INFO

The Website for Green Trails Phase II (www.greentrailstwo.com) has a “blast email” function.

This feature allows the Association to send news to residents on a mass basis. The Board of

Directors intends to start utilizing this function more frequently to disseminate important

information, particularly in emergencies like Hurricane Ike. If you have not registered and

would like to do so, please go to the “Join Our Mailing List” section of the Website. The only

information that you need to enter is your email address. Each of the other items is optional,

including your name. None of the information will be distributed to third parties.

DOGGIE DON’TS

Most of our dog owners are responsible, using a leash and picking up after your pets. We

thank you! HOWEVER - We have received reports of dog owners allowing their dogs to

defecate and urinate in yards. This is especially a problem in high-traffic areas near park

entrances. Be aware that it is not just your dog. Once a yard has been “used,” other dogs want

to do so as well. A resident should not have to pick up after even one dog, much less ten.

In addition, runners and walkers in our parks don’t enjoy dodging excrement. Please carry

a bag and pick up after your pet. Remember also, that even the sweetest dog may seem

intimidating to some people. Respect their rights and comply with leash laws.

DISCLAIMER

Green Trails Phase II Homeowners Association does not have a business relationship with or

endorse any of the companies advertising in this newsletter. We remind residents to exercise

due diligence when selecting contractors.

TEENAGE JOB SEEKERS

If you are between 12 and 18 and would like to be added to the teenage job seeker’s list,

please fill out the form on our website (www.krenekprinting.com, click submissions and

choose Jobseekers) with your name, birthdate (mo. & yr.), phone number, year you will

graduate and the name of your newsletter/subdivision. Check the list of jobs you want on

your form. Please make sure your email is correct, we send emails in the summer to make

sure all the info is still good and that you want to stay on the list. If we do not hear back from

you after 3 tries, we will remove you from the list until we do. Must have parent(s) permission.

DISCLAIMER: Neither the subdivision, nor Krenek Printing is responsible for those listed on the Teenage

Job Seeker List. Please ask for and check out references if you do not personally know those listed. This is

just a list of teenagers from the subdivision who wish to find part time jobs. Responsibility for any work

done by these teenagers is between those seeking helpers and the teens and their parents.

ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION INVITES

KATY/WEST HOUSTON RESIDENTS TO

JOIN 2020 WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S®

Participants will Raise Critically Needed Awareness and Funds for

Alzheimer’s Care, Support and Research. The Alzheimer’s Association®

is invitingKaty, Fulshear, Cypress, Richmond and other West Houston

area residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in

the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s.The Walk will take

place on Saturday, September 26, 2020,The Katy/West Houston Walk

to End Alzheimer’s continues, but instead of hosting a large gathering,

the Alzheimer’s Association is encouraging participants to walk as

individuals or in small groups on sidewalks, tracks and trails across Katy,

West Houston, Fulshear, Richmond and surrounding areas.

Time-honored components of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s are being

replicated. On walk day, an Opening Ceremony will feature local speakers

and a presentation of Promise Flowers to honor the personal reasons

participants join together to fight Alzheimer’s and all other dementia, all

delivered to participants’ smartphones, tablets and computers. A small

group of Alzheimer’s Association staff and volunteers will create the iconic

Promise Garden in a “view only” format on Walk day on commercial Blvd

along the original walk route to honor all those impacted by Alzheimer’s.

To enhance the participant experience leading up to the event and on

Walk day, new features are being added to the Walk to End Alzhemer’s

mobile app to create an opportunity for the community to connect.

Participants can use the app and new “Walk Mainstage’’ to track their

steps and distance, follow a virtual Walk path, manage their Facebook

fundraisers and access information and resources from the Association

and Walk sponsors to help individuals and families affected by the

disease. A new audio track is available to encourage participants along

the way and to congratulate them upon completion of their Walk.

There is no registration fee for participants. Sign up today as a team and

encourage your friends, family members, neighbors, book club, gym and

coworkers to join your team and start walking today!! There are many

incentives to raise funds but our main objective this year is to increase

participation in this growing community and increase awareness. For

more info, please visit www.alz.org or call 800-272-3900.

HOW TO STUDY AT HOME

(WITHOUT GETTING DISTRACTED)

Studying at home has its perks: it’s a comfortable, low-pressure

environment. However, there are a few reasons it can be difficult to study

at home; with so many distractions, it’s easy to procrastinate-when you

do start, it’s easy to get off track.

At home, procrastination and distraction can prevent you from

accomplishing what you need to get done. Watching TV, taking a nap,

scrolling through social media or other activities (maybe even cleaning

your room!), are big productivity killers that take you away from your goal

of studying for or completing that assignment.

Fortunately, there are a few tricks you can use to help you be more

productive. Here are 8 ways to help you stay focused and get more done

when studying at home.

8 TIPS FOR STUDYING AT HOME EFFECTIVELY

1. TRY ACTIVE STUDYING: Active studying is as simple as asking questions

before, during and after study time. Not only does this help to give your

study session direction, but it also helps keep you on track and reflect on

how to improve for your next study session!

Questions to ask yourself before you study:

What am I about to learn?

What do I already know about this subject?

Questions to ask yourself while you study:

How does this information fit into a bigger picture?

Do I understand what I have just read?

Can I paraphrase it?

Are there any key words or ideas that I need to write down? Why are these

words and ideas important?

Questions to ask yourself after you study:

What can I take away from this study session?

What do I need to review or learn next time?

2. GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP: Students of all ages should get at least

eight hours of sleep every school night. It’s the best way to ensure that

the brain is refreshed and ready to process all of the information learned

during the day. It may be tempting to stay up late to cram, but it’s more

beneficial to get enough rest. A full night’s sleep is especially important

the night before a test-a good night’s sleep makes you more alert and

improves memory for test material, leading to better test results.

3. STUDY AT THE RIGHT TIME: Every student has his or her own daily

highs and lows. Some people are night owls while some people prefer the

morning. Take advantage of the time of the day you feel most productive

and don’t try to force yourself to study when your brainpower isn’t at its

peak. Try to study when you are most alert, so you are able to process and

retain the information that you are studying.

4. HAVE A DESIGNATED STUDY AREA: Whether it’s the kitchen table or

the desk in your bedroom, create an area to study that is a designated

study zone. Try to reserve your bed for sleeping and avoid studying in it

(it can be all too easy to take a nap!). Most importantly, keep your study

space clean and organized so you can put more time into studying (and

less trying to find a pen that works).

5. EAT PROPERLY: Don’t forget to eat! Your body (and your brain) needs

fuel to help stay in top form. Plus, it’s difficult to focus when your stomach

is growling. Have healthy snacks while you study, but make sure they’re

prepared in advance so you don’t spend too much time away from your

work. More time away means more opportunity to be distracted!

6. CREATE A TIMETABLE: Creating a timetable helps organize your time,

schedules your breaks and is especially useful when you have multiple

subjects to study. Write your schedule down so you can remember it

and refer to it often. Set reasonable limits for how much time you spend

studying each day and break your study session up into manageable

chunks of time.

7. USE A TIMER: Use a timer to help keep track of time and to make sure

you stick to the timetable you created. Setting a timer helps keeps you

focused on the task at hand, committed to working until the timer goes

off and helps keep you on track to cover all the material you need to.

Above all else, it helps keep your break time effective and guilt-free

(because you’ve earned it!).

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR STUDY TIME

Although it seems convenient, studying at home can be difficultprocrastination

and distraction can happen easily. But with a little bit of

planning and organization, it can be an effective (and comfortable) place

to study. Try some of these tips for studying at home to help you stay

focused and more efficient with your study time.

Your Community is Fighting Back

We have already won the case, but...

you must file your claim to be eligible for compensation.

12

After Harvey, the Army Corps of Engineers refused to take responsibility for

intentionally using Upstream properties to store storm water. After a hard-fought

courtroom battle in 2019, Judge Lettow issued his decision. He found the

government liable under the Fifth Amendment for the intentional flooding of

Upstream homes and businesses. In a landmark case, Judge Lettow ruled that

intentional government action was the sole cause of the Upstream flooding.

Upstream residents have filed lawsuits to protect and enforce their Fifth

Amendment rights to just compensation. Attorney Armi Easterby is honored to

represent over 1,300 Upstream families and businesses.

The Chief Judge of the Court of

Federal Claims picked attorney Armi

Easterby to serve as Co-Lead Counsel

to protect the rights of individual

plaintiffs. Armi and his legal team

have taken the lead in obtaining

sworn testimonies from dozens of

government witnesses in

Washington, D.C., West Virginia, and

Texas. Pictures and videos from our

Upstream plaintiffs helped to prove

that the Army Corps’ actions were

the sole cause of flooding. Litigation

is still ongoing to determine financial

compensation and there is still time

to file a claim.
