Public votes were accepteduntil<br />
yesterday.<br />
‘‘Overall we had morepeople enter<br />
than the last couple of years, but fewer<br />
entries,’’Nerolisays.<br />
‘‘Thestandard of entries was<br />
fantastic.There were afew farmers<br />
burning over the weekend so there<br />
were not as many classic clear<br />
Kaikouralandscape images,but still<br />
plenty to enjoy.’’<br />

Mr Dalton says, overall, the<br />
Waimakariri district is weathering the<br />
stormbetter than the rest of <strong>Canterbury</strong><br />
and betterthan New Zealand as awhole.<br />
‘‘TheGDP figure is muchbetterthan<br />
we expected and recentstatistics show<br />
that consumerspending hasbounced<br />
back quitenicely.’’<br />
However, he warns there is still alot of<br />
pain to come. ‘‘But Waimakariri as a<br />
district is likely to get throughthis with a<br />
lot less disruption than other districts.”<br />
