Figures better
than expected
From Page 1
‘‘People havereally embracedthe ‘shop
local’ concept and, although customer
spending is down in level 1and 2, things
have remained overall pretty steady.”
Mr Dalton says, overall, the
Waimakariri district is weathering the
stormbetter than the rest of Canterbury
and betterthan New Zealand as awhole.
‘‘TheGDP figure is muchbetterthan
we expected and recentstatistics show
that consumerspending hasbounced
back quitenicely.’’
However, he warns there is still alot of
pain to come. ‘‘But Waimakariri as a
district is likely to get throughthis with a
lot less disruption than other districts.”
