Wednesday September 9 2020 Selwyn Times Latest Canterbury news at starnews.co.nz OPINION 11 Even though a change is unlikely, readers continue to react to Rolleston New World becoming a Pak’N Save Liz Goslin – I love the idea of a Pak’N Save as long as the supermarket food prices and quality of meats such as grass fed meats for example, and food items are cheaper than New World and Countdown. Bring on the change. Jayantha Gonsalkorale – I think the plan to remove New World is a terrible idea. While Pak’N Save is also part of the Foodstuffs group, it fails to deliver the service levels offered by New World. What is sold compared to New World is inferior especially when it comes to fresh vegetables and meats. Pak’N Save also sells a very narrow range of brands and lacks choice. I have shopped at Pak’N Save and although I pay marginally less than New World, the fresh produce I buy from New World results in less waste and they keep longer. Develop the existing New World in Rolleston, make it even more competitive and enhance the customer experience like the New World in Tawa, Wellington. Trevor Longmuir – I find it very difficult to support such a drastic change to the local area. Currently, New World sits unobtrusively within the shopping complex. The need to demolish New World to accommodate Pak’N Save could only be for one reason and that is to replace the current building with a three possibly four-storey yellow development which would back onto the new Rolleston Town Centre. I would submit this would not fit into the council’s endeavour to make the town centre a place of relaxation meeting place etc with a backdrop of a three-storey yellow building with a stick figure attached. Should Pak’N Save wish to have an establishment in Rolleston I suggest the other side of the railway tracks would be more appropriate. Rabeendran Subramaniam – New World grocery prices, very high, Pak’N Save has so many items and cheaper. l would like Pak’N Save to come to Rolleston. Alan Harris – I live near Darfield and regularly shop at the New World in Rolleston. It’s an excellent supermarket, clean, well stocked with a wide variety of items, some of which I haven’t seen anywhere else. The staff are friendly, professional and go out of their way to provide an excellent level of service in a personable manner. This all contributes to a positive shopping experience for me. I haven’t had the same positive experience at Pak’N Save supermarkets to date and avoid shopping at them. If the New World in Rolleston is replaced with a Pak’N Save then I will no longer shop there.
