Abstract Wednesday, 11 July, 12 Many stars end their lives catastrophically, meaning they destroy themselves, violently. The transients that involve those demises have been primary targets of the time-domain astronomy and become tools of mapping the Universe. I will talk about three representations of those transients: supernovae, gamma-ray bursts and stellar tidal disruptions by massive black holes, concentrating on the most recent progresses of our understandings and on the unanswered questions. 1
