A vip tour<br />
Amy began their tour right away by saying, “In<br />
the year 1607, the Powhatan Indians were busy with<br />
their daily chores, when they were surprised to see<br />
three ships come sailing up the James River! The<br />
three ships were named the Susan Constant, the<br />
Godspeed, and the Discovery. They had been sent<br />
from England by a group called the Virginia Company.<br />
“The Virginia Company was a group of men,<br />
who had a royal charter from King James I of<br />
England. The men put up the money to send 104<br />
men and boys to try to establish a permanent<br />
English colony here.<br />
“They had many urgent reasons to do this.<br />
First, they wanted to claim land for England before<br />
the countries of France, Spain, and Portugal beat<br />
them to it. Second, they hoped to find riches here<br />
to send back to England. Third, they thought they<br />
could find the so-called Northwest Passage that<br />
would take them on to the Orient. Finally, some<br />
