Ten ways a podcast benefits your

Outdoor and Adventure Travel Business.

One: Bring customers closer to your brand

and build a more intimate relationship

Nicki Gilliland from Econsultancy where she wrote how

Harrods’ Dept Store uses "interviews people within the

creative industry for insight into what luxury means to

them. This helps Harrods bring people closer to the brand".

Imagine if you employed a similar tactic interviewing people

connected to your business? You could talk about gear,

trips, locations, epic adventures, conservation, sustainability,

tips, hacks, business and more. How they navigated the

challenges, Top 10 lists . . . the angles are endless.

It would also be interesting to interivew your employees,

vendors, suppliers and reps. This would excite employees

and your audience might feel like family. It doesn‘t get more

intimate than that. OR put yourself and your staff out there.

Talk about you’re adventure, their adventure, favorite

gear, etc. I’d love to hear how you would implement this.

Two: Their issues are your issues, conservation,

sustainability, politics etc.

Nicki Gilliland also wrote that “Mark's & Spencer use their

podcast to talk about sustainability and other issues

important to their consumer”.

This is an opportunity for you to talk about all the ways

you contribute to and support local, national and global

issues of importance to you. It’s highly likely these issues

are also Important to your customer.

You can educate them, enlist their help to involve others

and inspire them to stay active. From local and national

politics to grand challenges like global warming, I think

you’ll find plenty of opportunities for engagement.

Three: Connect off line and on line activities

Saks is using podcasts to combine their "offline and

online activities by recording live podcasts in physical

retail stores creating a ready made in-store event."

Podcasts can be used to drive your audience both on

and off line. On your show you have the ability to talk

about the activities, products, and services you offer.

Online and offline you have plenty of opportunities to

educate customers and promote your podcast.

Podcasts are also a great way to introduce “gamification”

into your business if you’re not doing so already. Secret

words or phrases that “those in the loop” know when

they hear this a sale is gonna happen or a new product

is coming out or some other “insiders” deal is about to

go down.

Four: Inspiration and motivation

Storytelling is a fantastic use of your podcast to inspire

your customers. Telling stories about products, trips, and

events can inspire customers to plan their own adventures,

come in to check out the latest product you talked about

or be sure to attend your next event. These stories can

come from employees, suppliers and even customers

themselves.

This is also a chance to motivate your community to

support a local cause, come out and help with an event.

Inspire them with an historical tale of the activity you’re

working on, or the first time this adventure went down.

The opportunities are endless.

Six: Your followers can listen anywhere!

People have entire libraries of podcasts episodes in their

pockets. Your followers are able to listen to you while they

excercise, hike, backpack, and on all their adventures. They

can actually listen to you telling them how to set up their new

tent, or try out that new rod.

They are able to comprehend much more information from

listening to a conversation with you or one of your team members

than reading a blog .
