Climbers rise to test<br />

Arborists and other expert<br />
tree climbers swung from the<br />
trees and showed their skills<br />
at the South IslandRegional<br />
TreeClimbing Competition<br />
in the<strong>Ashburton</strong> Domain<br />
over theweekend.<br />
Some40tree climberstook<br />
partinvarious challenges<br />
that were set up to testand<br />
simulate the workplace of an<br />
arborist.<br />
They included former<br />
<strong>Ashburton</strong>Collegestudent<br />
Seth Mischeski, who won the<br />
throw lineevent, and Sami<br />
Baker from Christchurch,<br />
both of whom work locally for<br />
Four Seasons Tree Care.<br />
Sami Bakerfinished third<br />
in theaerial rescue,first in<br />
the belayed speed climb and<br />
was third overall in the<br />
preliminaries. Shefinished<br />
fifth in themasterschallenge<br />
on Sunday andhasqualified<br />
to take partinthe national<br />
finalinNovember.<br />
Climbers tackled five<br />
stations: an aerialrescue,<br />
speed climb, work climb,<br />
throw lineevent andbelay<br />
speed climb.<br />

and 30 volunteers and we<br />

Soon after being diagnosed<br />
withahearing impairment<br />
over 30 years ago, Russell<br />
Anstiss beganthinking about<br />
how he could helpothers<br />
experiencing hearing loss.<br />
