Praying

Biblical Virtues

For Your Children

Prayer Journal

Kathie Morrissey

Introduction

Welcome to our 30 Day Prayer Challenge! I am so glad that you are joining

me. Praying for your children is one of the most powerful things you can do

as a parent, and is the best gift you can give to them.

I have personally found that when I pray Scripture for my children, God does

amazing things in their hearts and lives. I believe that happens because

God's Word is powerful, and when we pray His Word back to Him we are

appropriating that power into the lives of our kids.

Praying Scripture does not have to be a complicated or difficult thing, and

there is no right or wrong way to do it. Simply read the verses, and say

them back to God in your own words, inserting the name(s) of your children.

A simple example of how I have done this is this prayer from my prayer

journal, based on Proverbs 21:1 and Isaiah 55:11:

Father, if you can change the heart of a king, you can

change the heart of my child.

Please work in his

heart, and make the changes that are needed there.

We have diligently taught Him Your Word, and I am

claiming Your promise that Your Word won't return

onto you void, but will accomplish what it should.

The exciting thing about that is that I saw God begin to work in his heart! It

was softened, and he began to be more open when the Lord convicted his

heart of wrong behavior. He came to me in tears a couple of times, asking

me to pray for him about something he was struggling with. THAT is the

power of God's Word at work!

My prayer is that through the next 30 days of praying Scripture for your

children's character, you will see God do some wonderful things in their

lives, and that they will grow and become more like Jesus.

Day 1:

Attentiveness

Dear Lord,

Thank you that you speak to us through others, and through your Word. I bring

my children before you and ask that you would help them remember to listen closely

and not interrupt. Keep them from being distracted when they should be paying

attention, so they will hear Your voice when You speak to them. Give them ears that

are ready to listen to you, and a heart that is willing to obey. Don't let them ever refuse

to listen, but help them incline their ears to hear Your voice. May they listen to

instruction and be wise.

Scripture to Consider:

Psalm 85:8a Proverbs 1:5

Proverbs 4:20 Proverbs 19:20

I Samuel 3:3-10

My Prayer:

Day 2:

Boldness

Dear Lord,

I pray that my children will be strong and courageous. May they not be afraid but

remember that the Lord their God is always with them. Cause them to boldly come

before Your throne to find help when they need it. Help them to boldly speak Your

Word, knowing You are their helper. Don't let them give into the fear of men, but be

bold as lions.

Scripture to Consider:

Proverbs 28:1 Acts 4:31

Acts 4:13 Hebrews 4:16

Acts 4:29 Hebrews 13:6

My Prayer:

Day 3:

Confidence

Father,

I pray that my kids will find their confidence in You, and that you will keep their

feet from a snare. As they put their confidence in You, help them to know who they

are, and what Your purpose for them is. May they find that confidence as they wait

before you in quietness. Let them have a healthy fear of You, which will not only give

them strong confidence, but also a place of refuge.

Scripture to Consider:

Proverbs 3:26 Proverbs 25:19

Proverbs 14:26

Isaiah 30:15

My Prayer:

Day 4:

Contentment

Lord,

I pray that my children won't give into covetousness, always wanting more, but

that they will know that godliness with contentment is great gain. May they be content

with what they have, and remember Your promise to never leave or forsake them.

Teach them to be content in any and every situation, finding their contentment in You.

Scripture to Consider:

Philippians 4:11 Hebrews 13:5

I Timothy 6:6

I Timothy 6:8

My Prayer:

Day 5:

Courage

Father,

May my children always be strong and courageous in their character and in their

actions. When they are afraid, help them to remember that it is You who goes with

them, and that You will never leave them. May they claim your promise to strengthen

them, help them, and uphold them. Give them courage to stand up for the truth, to do

what is right, and to choose the right thing when they are tempted to do wrong. May

they remember that You haven't given them a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a

sound mind.

Scripture to Consider:

Psalm 27:14 II Timothy 1:7

Psalm 31:24

Joshua 1:9
