Introduction

Prayer is our most important and powerful tool as parents! None of

us will ever be perfect as parents, and we will make mistakes.

However, ALL of us can be praying parents. As we pray for our kids it

allows God to work in their hearts and lives.

I love this verse where God encourages us to come to Him in prayer

regarding our children:

Pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord:

lift up thy hands toward Him for the life of thy young children.

We need to teach and train our kids as God tells us to in His Word,

but also pray and ask God to work in their hearts. We should work

(teach, train, discipline) as though it all depends on us, but pray as

though it all depends on God!

The most powerful way to pray is to pray God's Word back to Him.

God's Word has power that our words don't have, and when we

pray His Word back to Him for our children, the power of God

penetrates their lives.

What greater gift can we give our kids than the gift of a parent who

consistently prays for them, using God's Word as their prayer tool?

The prayers in this book are from the book of Proverbs - the book of

wisdom. Proverbs covers most of the issues our kids will ever face, so

it is a great book to pray through for them.

Going through the book of Proverbs, I paraphrased verses into a

prayer. In some cases the idea from a group of verses is written as a

prayer. After each prayer the verse number is listed for those who

may want to compare it to what their Bible says.

You can go through this book as fast or as slow as you want to, and

are able to. If you'd like to pray through the book of Proverbs every

month for your kids, simply go through the prayers for the chapter

that matches the day of the month. If that is more than you want to

do daily, then just pray through them a few at a time, marking where

you leave off each day.

Some ideas as you pray through the book:

1. Insert your child's name, or your children's names, where it says

"my children" or "my kids".

Cause (my children) Daniel, Debbie, and Anna to have wisdom, and

to think like You think. (Proverbs 1:1)

2. In some cases, you may feel one of your kids in particular really

needs that prayer. Write their name beside it as a reminder, so you

can come back to it.

3. Highlight the prayers that stand out to you, or that you really feel

your kids need. Go back through the book regularly and pray those

prayers.

Regardless of HOW you use this book, may I encourage you to make

a commitment to DAILY pray for your kids, even if you only pray one

or two of the prayers? Remember that we are in a spiritual battle for

our kids, and that battle is fought in prayer. God's Word is a powerful

weapon, sharper than any two-edged sword. (Hebrews 4:12)

As you pray for your children using the weapon of God's Word, claim

the promise in Isaiah 55:11 that His Word won't return to Him void, but

it will accomplish what it is supposed to, and will prosper in the thing

for which He sent it.

Praying through Proverbs

Proverbs 1

Cause my children to have wisdom, and to think like You think. 1

May they see things the way that You see them and have an

understanding of Your ways. 2

Help them to be open to wise instruction from their parents, and

other Christians who teach them. As they listen and learn, build in

them a sense of justice, fairness, and common sense. 3

Don't let them be simple; let them be wise and have knowledge and

discretion. 4

Let my kids be wise enough to hear and grow in learning; help them

to seek wise counsel. 5

May my children have a proper fear and respect for You, and know

that You are the beginning of all knowledge. Don't let them ever

become fools who despise wisdom and instruction. 7

Teach them the value of listening to the instruction of their parents. 8

When my kids are enticed to do wrong, give them the desire and

the strength to resist. 10

Help my children to realize the end of those who are tempting them

with evil; keep them from walking in their ways, and don't let them

set foot on their paths. 15

Show my children how greed and wrong choices can cost them

their lives. 19

Cause my children to listen to rebuke and correction, and respond

to it quickly. Pour out Your spirit on them, so they will know Your Word.

Make them aware of the consequences that come to those who

have no fear of You, and don't listen when You speak to them. Help

them to answer when You call, and listen to the counsel You give.

Work in their hearts and cause them to be open to Your reproof. 23-30

Help my children to know that when they listen to You, they will be

safe and don't have to fear evil. 33

Proverbs 2

Help my children to receive your words and remember your

commandments. Prompt them to listen to wise instruction, and to

seek understanding. 1,2

May they diligently seek after knowledge and understanding, as

they would seek for treasure. 3,4

As they seek knowledge help them to know You more, and to learn

the fear of the Lord. Thank You for giving them Your wisdom,

knowledge, and understanding. 5,6

Be their protector, and keep them safe in all their ways. 7,8

Help my kids realize that You are wisdom, and find delight in knowing

You. Cause them to realize that You always know the right way. 10

May my children have discretion and understanding to protect

them. 11

Protect and keep them from those that do and speak evil, and who

leave the paths of righteousness to pursue wickedness. 12,13

Help my children to guard their hearts so they do not yield to sexual

temptations when they come. Keep them from the path of

seductive women. Help them to realize that path will lead them to

destruction, rather than life. 16-19

Cause my children to walk with good men, and keep on the paths

of the righteous. 20
