Extra-CurricularsSportA by-word for excellence in schools debating, “St. Conleth's”consistently achieves Leinster, national and internationalprominence (in English, French and Irish) and is a main feederof the debating societies at universities, here and abroad.Chess satisfies the quieter yet still keen competitive instinctsof our pupils as they play at the lunchtime club and oninter-school teams and the after-school Coding Club sharpensthe students’ ICT skills and creativity. One of the mostimpressive aspects of our development has been in music,where our Performance Space is always alive with the soundsof our School Choir and the more freeform adventures ofvarious student individuals and bands as they prepare for ourmany assemblies and the Annual School Concert.In the Junior School, Both the teaching staff and the Parents’Association spend much effort and time organising variousout-of-class activities. Chess, Coding, Science, Math and ArtClubs meet every week and various competitions andtournaments are entered throughout the year. Piano andguitar lessons are offered after-school. All the boys and girlstake part in the Christmas and end-of-year theatricalproductions. Confident and competent participation is alwaysthe priority, and not a month goes by without a visit to, or avisit by, some educational or recreational resource.At St. Conleth’s, Physical Education is not just the prescribeddomain of the few, it is enjoyed and practised by all thestudents across a spectrum of mandatory classes and inoptional, but strongly encouraged, competitive sports. Inaddition to the varied and ambitious PE curriculum for allyears, St. Conleth’s competes and wins in Rugby, Hockey,Basketball, Tennis and Athletics, often at the regional andnational levels, and there is a plethora of other sports, both intime-tabled classes and after school. Fencing, in particular, isa time-honoured tradition at the school. The dedicated SportsHall and All-Weather Pitch at Herbert Park help make sport atSt. Conleth’s both fun and accessible and the Annual SportsDay is always the fitting culmination of a year of enthusiasticphysical education.
