Big ticket projects in district
A number of major projects in the district are
set to open next year. Devon Bolger explains
what you can expect and what each facility
will provide for the district
Foster Park indoor
courts complex
Netball games, gymnastics
competitions and floorball are
just some of the activities that
could be held at the new indoor
courts complex.
It is expected to be open to
the public in late April and will
add eight to 10 new jobs to the
district.
The budget for the project is
$22.2 million. Apollo Projects is
the contractor.
Facility manager Dave Tippett
said expressions of interest are
being sought from sports and
other groups wanting to use the
space.
“Netball is one of the first
sports that we did speak to and I
think they’re keen to keep their
Saturday netball at Lincoln but
they are potentially going to be
moving some masters and social
netball to Rolleston.
“I’ve also been speaking with
gymnastics groups but from a
competition perspective, and
basketball as well.”
The line-markings at the facility
are for netball, basketball,
volleyball, badminton, indoor
tennis, floorball, korfball and
futsal.
“We’ve got some really good
amounts of flexibility. All year
round we can host competitive
and social sport and recreation,”
said Tippett.
“It will open up a whole new
world of sport and physical
activity and recreation.”
The indoor court facility
includes eight courts, along with
a 240m indoor walking track
on the mezzanine level and will
serve sports teams from across
the district.
This includes four competition
standard courts capable of
hosting local and regional
competitions and four covered
courts for sports such as netball,
tennis, basketball and futsal.
It will also function as a flexible
space for community events,
markets and exhibitions.

The facility is expected to start
opening to the public in May or
June next year.
The district council is investing
$14.8 million with the
Canterbury District Health
Board as a partner and primary
leaseholder. Pacific Radiology is
also a leaseholder.
Construction
is expected to be
completed in April
2021 and then the
fit-out of the facility
will begin.

The facility will comprise a
primary birthing unit,
radiology services, CDHB
community health services
and will sit alongside a general
practice.
