<strong>Visual</strong> Art<br />

<strong>Visual</strong> Art focuses on students Making,<br />

Displaying and Appraising images and<br />

objects. Students explore a range of twodimensional<br />

and three-dimensional forms<br />

such as Drawing, Painting, Printmaking,<br />

Ceramics, Sculpture, Design, Installation and<br />

Electronic Imaging.<br />

This two-year course encourages students to<br />

develop and expand their creative potential<br />

and to experiment with a range of materials<br />

and develop technical expertise in the<br />

making process.<br />

This subject is not just for the boy or girl<br />

who is talented in 'Art' but for anyone who<br />

wishes to learn more about expressing his/<br />

her ideas and feelings in a variety of practical<br />

situations. Skills also include problem solving<br />

and analysis of artworks from a range of<br />

historical and cultural contexts.<br />

This subject is practically orientated and<br />

integrates theoretical components that are<br />

relevant to what students are making in<br />

<strong>Visual</strong> Art. Units of work undertaken over the<br />

two-year course include:<br />

<strong>Year</strong> 9<br />

· ‘Transmorphation’ – Drawing and<br />

Ceramics<br />

· ‘20th Century ISMS’ – Drawing and<br />

Painting<br />

· ‘For Realism/Surrealism’ – Drawing and<br />

Printmaking<br />

· ‘Design for the Body’ – Drawing and<br />

Electronic Imaging<br />

<strong>Year</strong> <strong>10</strong><br />

· ‘Fears and Phobias’ – Printmaking, Design<br />

and media manipulation<br />

· ‘The Object of my Obsession’ – Sculpture<br />

· ‘Looking In/Looking Out’ –Drawing,<br />

Painting and Electronic Imaging<br />

• Art Materials Kit – available from<br />

the school for $25<br />

(includes <strong>Visual</strong> Art Journal)<br />

• Apron to protect school uniform<br />

ASSESSMENT<br />

All units contain practical and theoretical<br />

components. Students are required to<br />

participate in all class activities, working<br />

individually, in pairs or groups. Students are<br />

assessed on their ability to make, display<br />

and appraise artworks. Examples of typical<br />

assessment items include:<br />

• Developmental drawings and annotated<br />

notes in <strong>Visual</strong> Journal<br />

• Production Folio<br />

Displaying<br />

• Presentaion of resolved artworks<br />

• Evaluations of personal and public displays<br />

in <strong>Visual</strong> Journals<br />

Appraising<br />

• Research assignments<br />

(300- 600 words)<br />

• Critiques of artworks<br />

• Short response worksheets<br />
