Years 9 and 10
Visual Art
Visual Art focuses on students Making,
Displaying and Appraising images and
objects. Students explore a range of twodimensional
and three-dimensional forms
such as Drawing, Painting, Printmaking,
Ceramics, Sculpture, Design, Installation and
Electronic Imaging.
This two-year course encourages students to
develop and expand their creative potential
and to experiment with a range of materials
and develop technical expertise in the
making process.
This subject is not just for the boy or girl
who is talented in 'Art' but for anyone who
wishes to learn more about expressing his/
her ideas and feelings in a variety of practical
situations. Skills also include problem solving
and analysis of artworks from a range of
historical and cultural contexts.
This subject is practically orientated and
integrates theoretical components that are
relevant to what students are making in
Visual Art. Units of work undertaken over the
two-year course include:
Year 9
· ‘Transmorphation’ – Drawing and
Ceramics
· ‘20th Century ISMS’ – Drawing and
Painting
· ‘For Realism/Surrealism’ – Drawing and
Printmaking
· ‘Design for the Body’ – Drawing and
Electronic Imaging
Year 10
· ‘Fears and Phobias’ – Printmaking, Design
and media manipulation
· ‘The Object of my Obsession’ – Sculpture
· ‘Looking In/Looking Out’ –Drawing,
Painting and Electronic Imaging
• Art Materials Kit – available from
the school for $25
(includes Visual Art Journal)
• Apron to protect school uniform

ASSESSMENT
All units contain practical and theoretical
components. Students are required to
participate in all class activities, working
individually, in pairs or groups. Students are
assessed on their ability to make, display
and appraise artworks. Examples of typical
assessment items include:
Making
• Developmental drawings and annotated
notes in Visual Journal
• Production Folio
Displaying
• Presentaion of resolved artworks
• Evaluations of personal and public displays
in Visual Journals
Appraising
• Research assignments
(300- 600 words)
• Critiques of artworks
• Short response worksheets
