For this study, <strong>the</strong> consult<strong>in</strong>g company Staufen AG<br />

surveyed a total of 267 <strong>automobile</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry companies <strong>in</strong> Germany about <strong>the</strong> topic<br />

green transformation <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>automobile</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry.<br />

The survey was conducted <strong>in</strong> July <strong>2020</strong>.<br />

SUMMARY


• The potential for ecologically susta<strong>in</strong>able activity <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>automobile</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry has not yet been<br />

exhausted. N<strong>in</strong>e of ten companies need to make up some ground here.<br />

• While almost n<strong>in</strong>e out of ten OEM’s state that <strong>the</strong>y are strongly committed to this area, only just<br />

over 50 percent of suppliers are committed.<br />

• A big obstacle to more susta<strong>in</strong>ability <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>automobile</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry is clearly that many ecological<br />

measures do not pay off.<br />

• Never<strong>the</strong>less, both OEMs and <strong>the</strong>ir suppliers place value on an ecologically oriented supply<br />

cha<strong>in</strong>.<br />

• High brand value <strong>in</strong>creases <strong>the</strong> susta<strong>in</strong>ability efforts s<strong>in</strong>ce ecological questions flow <strong>in</strong>to<br />

purchas<strong>in</strong>g decisions. However, OEMs can only take this path <strong>in</strong> cooperation with suppliers and<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir supply cha<strong>in</strong>.<br />

• While <strong>the</strong> <strong>Green</strong> Awareness Index underscores <strong>the</strong> significance of ecology for <strong>the</strong> <strong>automobile</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>dustry, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Green</strong> Maturity Index clarifies <strong>the</strong> current deficits <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> implementation of<br />

necessary measures.<br />
