MASONS GIVINGBACK TO THECOMMUNITYDURING PANDEMIC(Excerpts from Freemason magazine)Lehighton Lodge No. 621 sponsored a free, to-go spaghetti dinner for the communitynorth of Allentown. Brother Robert Neff, D.D.G.M-45 and Rajah Shriner, said “Ithought of giving something back to the community. They have always supported usin our fund drives, and with these difficult times, we felt like we should help out.” Thebrothers at our Lehighton lodge were all for the project.It was a total team effort, Robert said. “We placed a sandwich board advertising thedinner at two different locations and put an ad in the local newspaper.” The brothers set up a large tent in the lodge parking lot,where participants could drive up and pick up their meal of spaghetti with meat sauce and salad with a choice of dressing. Theevent ran for three hours. “We wanted to be safe, so the meals were boxed up to go.” Robert said. “The effort was successful with205 meals served.” Lodge members also raised $450 in donations, which they donated to the Trinity Lutheran Church Food Pantryin Lehighton. It was a free meal, but people showed their appreciation by donating money.More than 15 lodge members, many of them Shriners, helped prepare the food ahead of time, wearing masks and gloves. Thelodge spent about $300 in groceries for the dinner. Typically, the lodge sponsors several events a year, including two fish fries andtwo sit-down spaghetti dinners, but they were all canceled due to COVID-19. They raise around $1,000 to $1,200 at each event.Walter Lamm,SecretaryCARAVANERSRobert Neff, DDGM-45Robert is thankful that the lodge was able to do something forthe community, despite the circumstances. He has been a Masonfor 44 years and is active in the Shrine. Last year he brought in 10new members thru the Hillbillies. He is also a Tin Lizzie. That is what the Rajah Caravanershave been up to. We have enjoyed several outings together (within proper distancing guidelines) over thesummer, with several more to go.RVing, and camping, have become more popular of late, due to the health scare situation we are in.This is evidenced by the uptick in RV and camper sales. It allows us to travel a little more freely thanmany people are willing or able to do. As you can rest easy overnight, without concern about where yourest your head.Caravaners are looking into some enhancements to the Oasis Campground to make our overnightstays more enjoyable and secure. Some supplemental area lighting is being investigated, as well as a fewgrounds maintenance tools and storage space for them. We have added a permanent picnic table to thefacility.With all this in mind, there has not been a better time to go camping. Come and join us for some freshair and fellowship.5
