Individuals and businessescould be fined if they break them.“First, the law now says that thegovernment guidelines for salons andbarber shops must be followed,” saysNHBF director Tina Beaumont-Goddard.“Businesses that don’t comply will be fined£10,000 and could be closed down.”Another important legal requirementthat applies in England relates toemployees who have tested positive, livewith someone who has tested positive orhave been told to self-isolate. “It is now anoffence for an employer to knowingly allowanyone who is self-isolating to come intowork,” warns Tina. “Employers will face afine of at least £1,000.”Employees are also obliged to tell theiremployer that they are self-isolating.Enforcement is also being stepped up inother parts of the UK.Find out more at nhbf.co.uk/four-nationsNHBF to freezemembership feesNHBF MEMBERS will benefit from a freezeon membership fees for 2021. Hilary announced her forthcoming retirement at the start of the year,but the Covid-19 pandemic delayed the search for a new chief executive asthe NHBF team swung into action to support members under her leadership.Hilary joined the NHBF in 2013 and has since worked tirelessly formembers. She leaves an amazing legacy to build on and will be much missed.Her replacement, Richard Lambert, brings a wealth of experience fromhis previous roles, which include chief executive of the National LandlordsAssociation and the British Woodworking Federation. Before that he workedat the heart of government as a parliamentary civil servant.Richard said: “I am thrilled to be appointed as chief executive for theNational Hair & Beauty Federation and look forward to working with sucha vibrant, forward-thinking industry. I’m committed to understandingour members and their concerns, shaping the organisation’s services andcommunications to support them, and creating an open, empowered culturefrom which we will continue to lobby government for change.”New government support:don’t miss outFOLLOWING THE end of the furlough scheme in October, the government has announceda raft of new measures to help support businesses and the self-employed. These include:• A new Job Support Scheme to protect viable jobs in businesses that are facing lowerdemand in the winter months due to Covid-19. The government will contribute towardsthe wages of employees who are working fewer hours than normal.
