2020, tested negative for COVID-19 on arrival. They will all remain in mandatory
quarantine for five (5) days in a Tourism Authority/Ministry of Health, Wellness and
the Environment approved hotel.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines has now recorded a total of seventy-four (74)
COVID-19 cases, sixty-six (66) of which have recovered. There are now eight (8)
active COVID-19 cases, all imported from countries categorized as “High Risk”.
The Health Services Subcommittee of the National Emergency
Committee/Coronavirus Taskforce on Sunday, October 26, 2020 implemented a new
protocol for the entry of travelers to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. This interim
phase 5 protocol is effective from October 25 to November 10, 2020. It is aimed at
addressing the increased risk of the introduction of new cases of COVID-19 into St.
Vincent and the Grenadines because of the escalation in new COVID-19 cases in
North America, Europe and the Caribbean region. This external escalation of new
cases, coupled with the in-country election campaign associated mass gatherings,
has the potential to increase the risk of local spread. All travellers must now arrive
in St. Vincent and the Grenadines with a negative PCR result. In addition, travellers
except those arriving from Barbados (having been there for at least 21 days) must
quarantine in an approved hotel for five (5) days.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COMPLIANCE WITH COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
The Health Services Subcommittee of the National Emergency
Committee/Coronavirus Taskforce has noted a disturbing and increasing trend of
travelers to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, requesting exemptions from presenting
the required negative PCR result and/or quarantining in a Tourism
Authority/MOHWE approved hotel for five (5) days, as indicated. It has also been
noted that some local individuals are colluding with these travelers to aid their
intentions of not complying with the existing protocols.
The public is reminded that the strict compliance with the protocols for travelers to
St. Vincent and the Grenadines has served this country well so far. There is no
evidence of local or community spread of COVID-19. Early detection and isolation
of positive cases have prevented infection of other persons locally.
These capacities are particularly vital in view of the rapidly rising numbers of
infections in the USA, UK, Canada and our regional neighbors.
The Health Services Subcommittee advises that no exemptions will be granted in
terms of the requirement to arrive with a negative PCR result, no older than five (5)
days, where required. Additionally, no exemptions will be granted to the five (5) day
mandatory quarantine in a TA/MOHWE approved hotel. Travelers from high risk
countries will not be allowed to quarantine in their homes. The typical quarantine
period of 14 days will be enforced. Any breaches of the Quarantine Orders as issued
will be referred for prosecution. Any unauthorized deviation from these protocols
puts all Vincentians at risk.
ONE NEW COVID-19 CASE FROM FLORIDA, USA
St. Vincent and the Grenadines recorded a new COVID-19 case today. The new case
is an American national who arrived in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on
Wednesday October 14, 2020, from Florida with a negative PCR result, and tested
positive on entry screening. The adult, who went into quarantine after arrival, will
continue in isolation until cleared by two (2) negative SARS-CoV-2 PCR test results.
All of the passengers who arrived on American Airlines 945 on Saturday October
10, 2020, were cleared by negative day 5 PCR tests. St. Vincent and the Grenadines
has now recorded a total of sixty-five (65) COVID-19 cases, sixty-one (64) of which
have recovered. There is now one (1) active COVID-19 case.
This new case from the USA, a country categorized as High Risk, emphasizes the
great importance of strictly enforcing all of the protocols, including the requirement
of arriving with a valid negative SARS-CoV-2 PCR test result, testing on arrival in
St. Vincent and the Grenadines, mandatory quarantine in a quarantine/transition
hotel and testing on day 4 or 5 of quarantine. These protocols are designed to protect
all Vincentians and to allow for relatively unrestrained daily activities. As many
countries in the world are recording increase COVID-19 activity, these protocols
must be maintained and adhered to.
