near Electra, Texas in Wichita County and is one of the oldest 

ranches in the area. It has been owned and operated by a 

family member since that time. The ranch runs 300 mama 

cows and 1,500 head of steers on natural grass depending on 

range conditions.

The Circle Bar Ranch was founded by Jerry Bob and Eugenie

Circle Bar Ranch is a family operation that employs eight fulltime 

personnel including Jerry Bob’s and Eugenie’s son, 

Colton Daniel, who helps manage the operation, and their

The Kokernot 06 Ranch, located in the beautiful Davis 

Mountains of West Texas, was established in 1882. The 06 has 

since continued to carry on the old traditional style ranching 

with round up twice a year. Vital to the cow-calf operation is 

the remuda of registered Quarter Horses raised and trained on 

the ranch. Much time is spent preparing the horses for cutting,

In 1882, the Matador Land & Cattle Company was formed by 

a group of Scottish investors. In 1953, Fred C. Koch purchased 

three sub-divided corporations of land as well as the Flying V 

cattle brand and the “50” horse brand, both of which were used 

by the Scots during their 70 year ownership. Today Matador 

Ranch covers 130,000 acres around Matador, TX. It has both 

cow-calf and stocker operations, as well as a small broodmare 

band. It focuses on producing horses that are athletic, versatile 

and have the right disposition to produce dependable horses.

Moorhouse Ranch is a strong ranching legacy which was born

Spade Ranches were started in 1889 when Colonel Isaac 

Ellwood bought the 130,000 acre Renderbrook Spade south of 

Colorado City, TX. Today, the Spades operates on 250,000 

acres in six locations in West Texas and the Panhandle. Wesley 

Welch is CEO and the owners are sixof Ellwood’s descendants. 

The cattle breeding program uses composite bulls (Sim/Angus 

and Balancers) to produce calves with growth, marbling and 

outstanding feedlot performance and replacement heifers with 

hybrid vigor and desirable maternal traits. The horse program 

features a son of Peptoboonsmal, and a son of Highbrow Cat 

that are used to produce cowy, durable using horses when 

crossed on the Doc Bar and Little Peppy broodmare band.

In 1854 Svante Magnus Swenson, a Swedish merchant and 

banker, bought Texas acreage. He later gave his sons, E.P. and 

S.A. Swenson, the land to develop and as a result, the Swenson 

Brothers ranch was born. The brothers purchased additional 

land, and by the early 1900's ranch operations comprised 

almost 500,000 acres in four separate units, referred to as Flat 

Top, Throckmorton, Tongue River and Spur Ranches, the last 

two of which have been sold. The enterprise was incorporated 

under the name Swenson Land and Cattle Co. Inc. in 1926. 

Today's SMS is owned by the Bruce and Parry Swenson families, 

both are great-great grandsons of S.M. Swenson. The 

ranch today consists of the Flat Top and Throckmorton 

Ranches.

totaling over 150,000 acres. The Green ranches run Hereford 

and black baldy cows plus yearlings as well as a broodmare

him inside and out - I caught a bull on him, 

yearlings on him and drug calves on him. 

He also has been worked a lot in the 

Round Pen. He is a broke little horse that 

would make some youth a heck of a calf 

horse, or anything else. He is not a finished 

rope horse, but ready to go on with. He is a 

pretty little horse.

“Critter” is a big, stout, honest, good 

looking 8 year old sorrel gelding. “06 

Ranch” manager Rod DeVoll has had 

“Critter” in his string for the last 5 years 

covering lots of rocky country, dragging 

calves to the fire, cutting cattle out of the 

herd, pasture roping, easily handling any 

of the toughest jobs on the ranch. Rod 

says that he is “stout to the horn” and 

“always ready to work.” He has a lot of 

speed, balance, and plenty of heart to 

make him a good heading horse. He is 

easy to shoe, hauls good, well mannered, 

and has a big work ethic.

can really run, stop, and then turn

finals three times. Pistol has qualified 

for the RHAA finals several times as

Bandy as been used all over the ranch; 

dragging calves in the branding pen, long 

cattle drives, and started this Feb in arena 

roping. He is honest, willing, athletic and 

gentle. Here is an attractive young gelding

1. The highest bidder is to be the buyer. If any dispute arises between or among any two or more bidders, sole authority to settle the 

dispute as he sees it is reserved by the auctioneer, and his decision shall be final. The auctioneer reserves the right to reject any and 

all bids. The auctioneer will decline any bid made by parties who have defaulted in former purchases. 

2. The Sales Management is not responsible for the integrity of any specified bid and the seller understands and assumes all responsibil 

ties for any bid that is made and not thereafter honored. In the event any bid is not honored, the seller agrees not to hold the Sales 

Management responsible and agrees not to sue the Sales Management hereof. 

3. Terms of the sale are CASH and payment in full of purchase price plus transfer fee and must be made to the cashier during or 

immedately after the sale. Payment shall be in form of cash, cashier’s check, personal checks or traveler’s check. Drivers license or 

some other form of positive identification is required for personal checks. 

4. Horses are the buyers’ expense and risk and responsibility from the time of purchase, but no delivery will be made until final 

settlement has been made. 

5. All horses are offered for sale according to the laws of the State of Texas, and the right to bid is reserved for all sellers in the sale

6. All horses are sold “as is”. There is no guarantee of any kind as to the soundness or condition or other quality of any horse sold in this 

sale. Right of recourse must be directly to the owner not through Western Heritage Classic. 

7. All registration papers will be withheld by the Sales Management until all checks clear the bank. At such time, they, along with 

transfer certificates, will be mailed to the Quarter Horse Association for processing of transfer. 

8. Western Heritage Classic, Auctioneers and personnel do not act as agents for or represent the buyer or seller, but merely provide a 

medium for bringing together the buyer and seller for the purpose of a sales transaction. The Sales Management assumes no liability 

for either buyer or seller. 

9. Any person signing a check in the State of Texas is liable for the amount of the check. Any person giving an “Insufficient Funds” 

check or running an order to “Stop Payment” of a check will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
