ARTICLE I<br />
ARTICLE, OBJECTS, LOCATION<br />
Section 1. Title. The Association shall be known<br />
as the NORTH AMERICAN CORRIENTE AS-<br />
SOCIATION, <strong>and</strong> shall at all times be operated<br />
<strong>and</strong> conducted as a non-profit corporation in accordance<br />
<strong>with</strong> the laws of the State of Montana<br />
providing for such organizations <strong>and</strong> by which<br />
it shall acquire all such rights as granted to associations<br />
of this kind.<br />
Section 2. Objects. The purpose of the Association<br />
shall be to collect, record, <strong>and</strong> preserve<br />
the pedigrees of Corriente Cattle, to publish a<br />
breeding registry to be known as the North<br />
American Corriente Herdbook, <strong>and</strong> to stimulate<br />
<strong>and</strong> regulate any <strong>and</strong> all other matters such as<br />
may pertain to the history, breeding, exhibition,<br />
publicity, sale or preservation of this breed.<br />
Section 3. Place of Business. The principal<br />
place of business shall be North Kansas City,<br />
Missouri, but its members or Officers may be<br />
residents of any state, territory, or country, <strong>and</strong><br />
business may be carried on at any place convenient<br />
to such members or officials, as may be<br />
participating.<br />
ARTICLE II<br />
MEMBERS<br />
Section 1. Members.<br />
A. There shall be four classes of membership:<br />
(1) Life. Life Members shall pay a<br />
one-time membership fee, as established by the<br />
Board of Directors, but shall not be required to<br />
pay any annual dues.<br />
(2) Active. Active Members shall pay<br />
annual dues to the Association, as established by<br />
the Board of Directors.<br />
(3) Associate. Associate Members<br />
shall pay annual dues to the Association, as established<br />
by the Board of Directors.<br />
(4) Junior Members. Junior Members<br />
shall pay annual dues to the Association<br />
as established by the Board of Directors. Junior<br />
Members must be18 years of age or under.<br />
B. Members may be individuals, partnerships,<br />
or corporations.<br />
C. As a condition of membership in the Association<br />
each member shall agree to conform to <strong>and</strong><br />
abide by the Bylaws, <strong>Rules</strong>, <strong>and</strong> Regulations of<br />
the Association, <strong>and</strong> amendments or modifications<br />
thereto, which may, from time to time, be<br />
adopted.<br />
D. Application for membership may be made by<br />
submitting to the Association an application in<br />
the form prescribed by the Board of Directors,<br />
accompanied by the established membership<br />
fee.<br />
E. The Board of Directors shall have the power<br />
to accept or reject applications for membership,<br />

fix membership fees, <strong>and</strong> establish <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
Regulations covering the rights <strong>and</strong> privileges<br />
of members, consistent <strong>with</strong> the provisions of<br />
these Bylaws.<br />
F. Only Life <strong>and</strong> Active Members shall be entitled<br />
to vote on any matter submitted to a vote of<br />
the <strong>Membership</strong>. Each Life <strong>and</strong> Active Member<br />
shall have one (1) vote. Life <strong>and</strong> Active Members<br />
may vote by absentee ballot.<br />
G. <strong>Membership</strong> in the Association shall cease<br />
upon the death, resignation or expulsion of a<br />
member, except as may otherwise be proved in<br />
the <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong> Regulations of the Association.<br />
<strong>Membership</strong> is not transferable.<br />
H. The Board of Directors may provide for the<br />
issuance of certificates evidencing membership<br />
in the Association.<br />
I. Each member shall be entitled to designate, on<br />
forms provided by the Association, agents <strong>and</strong><br />
representatives authorized to transact business<br />
<strong>with</strong> the Association <strong>and</strong> sign any documents on<br />
behalf of such member required by the Association,<br />
including but not limited to, registrations<br />
<strong>and</strong> transfers. The Association will also recognize,<br />
as such an agent or representative, any<br />
individual or organization so designated by a<br />
Court of competent jurisdiction. Upon the death<br />
of a member, the Association shall recognize the<br />
authority of the duly designated personal representative<br />
or heirs of the deceased member to<br />
transact business <strong>with</strong> the Association <strong>with</strong> respect<br />
to animals registered in the name of the<br />
deceased member but shall not register any additional<br />
animals in the deceased member’s name<br />
or under the deceased member’s membership.<br />
Section 2. Annual <strong>Membership</strong> Meetings.<br />
The regular annual meeting of the members<br />
shall be held at such time <strong>and</strong> place as may be<br />
fixed by resolution of the Board of Directors<br />
for the purpose of electing Directors <strong>and</strong> for the<br />
transaction of such other business as may be<br />
brought before the meeting.<br />
Notice of the annual meeting shall be given by<br />
mailing written notice stating the time <strong>and</strong> place<br />
of such meeting to each member’s last known<br />
address as it appears on the Association’s records<br />
not less than thirty (30) days prior to the<br />
date of such meeting.<br />
Section 3. Special <strong>Membership</strong> Meetings.<br />
Special meetings of the members may be held at<br />
such time <strong>and</strong> place as may be designated in the<br />
notice, whenever called in writing by direction<br />
of the President or by a majority of the Board<br />
of Directors, or by notice signed by no less<br />
than twenty (20) percent of the Life <strong>and</strong> Active<br />
Members.<br />
Notice of each special meeting indicating briefly<br />
the object or objects thereof shall be given<br />
in the same manner as provided <strong>with</strong> respect to<br />
notice of annual meetings.<br />
Section 4. Quorum <strong>and</strong> Proxy.<br />
At any meeting of the members held in accordance<br />
<strong>with</strong> the foregoing provisions as to notice,<br />
the members attending such a meeting, present<br />
in person, or represented by absentee ballot,<br />
shall constitute a quorum of the members for<br />
all purposes unless the representation of a larger<br />
number should be required by law <strong>and</strong>, in that<br />
case, the representation so required shall constitute<br />
a quorum. Voting by proxy shall not be<br />
permitted.<br />
ARTICLE III<br />
DIRECTORS<br />
Section 1. Government.<br />
The business <strong>and</strong> property of the Association<br />
shall be governed by a Board of Directors<br />
elected by the Life <strong>and</strong> Active Members present<br />
at a regular annual membership meeting,<br />
<strong>combined</strong> <strong>with</strong> the results of absentee ballots.<br />
Elections for the Board of Directors are for all<br />
vacant positions <strong>and</strong> the c<strong>and</strong>idates <strong>with</strong> the<br />
most votes shall be declared elected to fill the<br />
vacancies. There shall be no less than three nor<br />
more than fifteen Directors, as established from<br />
time to time by the Board. The term of office<br />
shall be from the time of election to the third<br />
regular annual membership meeting thereafter,<br />
on a staggered basis. A Director may serve only<br />
two terms consecutively.<br />
Ballots <strong>with</strong> the names of all eligible c<strong>and</strong>idates<br />
for the Board of Directors will be mailed to all<br />
Life <strong>and</strong> Active Members at least thirty (30)<br />
days before the election, or thirty (30) days before<br />
any annual or special meeting requiring a<br />
vote of the membership.<br />
Section 2. C<strong>and</strong>idacy.<br />
A c<strong>and</strong>idate for Director must be a member in<br />
good st<strong>and</strong>ing, <strong>and</strong> either: (1) have been eligible<br />
to be on the Breeders List for the past four consecutive<br />
years at the time c<strong>and</strong>idacy is declared,<br />
or (2) for the past four consecutive years have<br />
been an employee <strong>and</strong> authorized signer for a<br />
member in good st<strong>and</strong>ing who has been eligible<br />
to be on the Breeders List for the past four consecutive<br />
years at the time c<strong>and</strong>idacy is declared.<br />
Life <strong>and</strong> Active Members wishing to run for the<br />
Board of Directors will notify the Association<br />
by the date determined <strong>and</strong> announced by the<br />
Association each year. This date will be at least<br />
four months before the annual election. The Association<br />
Secretary will determine the eligibility<br />
of each c<strong>and</strong>idate according to the criteria set<br />
out above <strong>and</strong> also determine that each c<strong>and</strong>idate<br />
is current on all obligations owed to the<br />
Association. Comparable profiles of each c<strong>and</strong>idate<br />
will be published in the <strong>NACA</strong> official publication<br />
prior to the mailing of absentee ballots.<br />
Section 3. Vacancy.<br />
If a Director, during his/her term of office shall<br />
disperse his/her herd <strong>and</strong> cease to be an active<br />
breeder of Corriente cattle, or cease to be an<br />
employee <strong>and</strong> authorized signer for a breeder<br />
of Corriente cattle, or shall fail to attend meetings,<br />
or otherwise fail to perform the duties of a<br />
Director, the Board of Directors may, after appropriate<br />
notice to such Director, remove him/<br />
her from office <strong>and</strong> declare a vacancy.<br />
If a vacancy develops in the Board of Directors<br />
because of death, resignation, or action taken<br />
in accordance <strong>with</strong> the preceding paragraph, it<br />
may be filled by appointment by the Board of<br />
Directors for the unexpired portion of the term.<br />
Section 4. <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong> Regulations.<br />
The Board of Directors shall have the power to<br />
establish <strong>and</strong> amend the <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong> Regulations<br />
for the conduct of the members of the Association<br />
<strong>and</strong> for the conduct of the affairs of the Association<br />
consistent <strong>with</strong> the provisions of these<br />
Bylaws.<br />
Section 5. Amendment.<br />
The <strong>NACA</strong> Bylaws may be amended, altered,<br />
or repealed by (1) a proposal from the <strong>NACA</strong><br />
Board of Directors or (2) by a petition signed<br />
by five percent of the Life or Active Members<br />
of the Association, filed at least 120 days prior<br />

to any annual meeting or special meeting at<br />
which a quorum is present. The proposal must<br />
be written clearly <strong>and</strong> exactly as it will appear<br />
in the Bylaws. It must be mailed first class by<br />
the <strong>NACA</strong> office to Life <strong>and</strong> Active members at<br />
least 30 days prior to the meeting. The proposal<br />
must be accompanied by notification of the time<br />
<strong>and</strong> place of the meeting at which the vote will<br />
be held, <strong>and</strong> by an absentee ballot form. The<br />
Bylaw change will be approved if two-thirds<br />
(2/3) of the Life <strong>and</strong> Active members voting at<br />
the meeting or by absentee ballot vote for the<br />
proposal.<br />
Section 6. Committees.<br />
The Board of Directors may, from time to time,<br />
appoint st<strong>and</strong>ing or special committees which<br />
may include nonmembers of the Board of Directors.<br />
St<strong>and</strong>ing or Special Committees appointed<br />
by the Board of Directors shall be charged <strong>with</strong><br />
<strong>and</strong> limited to such responsibilities as the Board<br />
of Directors shall set forth by resolution.<br />
Section 7. Annual <strong>and</strong> Regular Board Meetings.<br />
An annual meeting of the Board of Directors<br />
shall be held immediately following the annual<br />
members’ meeting <strong>and</strong> no notice shall be<br />
required for any such regular meeting of the<br />
Board. At this meeting the Board shall proceed<br />
<strong>with</strong> the election of Officers of the Association.<br />
The Board, by rule, may provide for other regular<br />
meetings at stated times <strong>and</strong> places, of which<br />
no notice shall be required.<br />
Section 8. Special Board Meetings.<br />
Special meetings of the Board of Directors shall<br />
be held whenever called by direction of the<br />
President or by two-thirds (2/3) of the Directors<br />
currently serving.<br />
The Secretary shall give notice of each special<br />
meeting by mailing or telephoning the same to<br />
each Director at least thirty (30) days before the<br />
meeting; but such notice may be waived by any<br />
Director. Unless otherwise indicated in the notice<br />
thereof, any <strong>and</strong> all business may be transacted<br />
at a special meeting. Special meetings<br />
may be held by teleconference.<br />
Section 9. Quorum.<br />
A majority of the number of Directors shall constitute<br />
a quorum for the transaction of business,<br />
but if at any meeting of the Board there may be<br />
less than a quorum present, a majority of those<br />
present may adjourn the meeting from time to<br />
time until a quorum shall be present.<br />
Section 10. Expenses.<br />
When the Directors meet for the transaction of<br />
Association business, their expenses incurred<br />
for such meetings may be paid from the funds<br />
of the Association, by decision of the Board of<br />
Directors.<br />
Section 11. Action Without a Meeting.<br />
Any action which may be taken at a meeting of<br />
the Directors or of a committee may be taken<br />
<strong>with</strong>out a meeting if a consent in writing setting<br />
forth the action so taken shall be signed by all of<br />
the members of the committee entitled to vote<br />
thereon.<br />
Section 12. Removal of Officers or Directors.<br />
If in the course of a normal elected term of office,<br />
an Officer or Director of the Association<br />
becomes unable to appropriately fulfill the duties<br />
<strong>and</strong> responsibilities of her/his position, or<br />
becomes so derelict in the performance of her/<br />
his duties <strong>and</strong> responsibilities as an Officer or<br />
Director of the North American Corriente Association;<br />
or, becomes so involved in professional<br />
misconduct to the extent that continuance of<br />
her/his term as an Officer or Director of this Association<br />
could cause embarrassment, or jeopardize<br />
the reputation of this organization, or in any<br />
way impede the accomplishment of the Association’s<br />
objectives; it is the duty of such an Officer<br />
or Director to resign her/his position as a Officer<br />
or Director of the Association. Upon receipt of<br />
such resignation, the Board of Directors, by majority<br />
vote will determine whether to accept the<br />
resignation <strong>and</strong> announce their decision to the<br />
general membership as soon as possible following<br />
their decision.<br />
If in the opinion of at least two (2) members of<br />
the Board of Directors, one of the conditions described<br />
above exists <strong>and</strong> a resignation has not<br />
been submitted to the Board, the Board Members<br />
may request a special meeting of the Board<br />
of Directors to investigate, discuss, or evaluate<br />
the issue. Upon a motion approved by at least<br />
two-thirds (2/3) majority of the Board of Directors<br />
present at such meeting, the Board of Directors<br />
may request such a resignation.<br />
If such a request is made by the Board of Directors<br />
<strong>and</strong> such resignation is not tendered<br />
forth<strong>with</strong>, the Board may direct an election<br />
committee to prepare <strong>and</strong> circulate among the<br />
membership a petition for recall of the Officer<br />
or Director in question. Such a petition will include<br />
a statement of cause <strong>and</strong> action declared<br />
by the Board. Upon receipt of a recall petition<br />
signed by at least fifty (50) active members of<br />
the Association, the Board of Directors will direct<br />
the election committee to hold a recall election<br />
<strong>with</strong>in thirty (30) days from the date of the<br />
receipt of the recall petition. Such recall election<br />
may be held at either a special meeting or accomplished<br />
solely by absentee ballot. The recall<br />
issue will be determined by the majority of the<br />
votes cast.<br />
ARTICLE IV<br />
OFFICERS<br />
Section 1. Officers. The Officers of the Association<br />
shall consist of the President, one or more<br />
Vice-Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, <strong>and</strong> such<br />
other Officers as the Board of Directors deems<br />
necessary. Any offices except that of President<br />
may be held simultaneously by one person.<br />
Officers shall be elected by the Board of Directors<br />
at the Board’s Annual Meeting, <strong>and</strong> shall<br />
serve for a term of one year or until their successors<br />
are elected <strong>and</strong> qualified. The Board of<br />
Directors will elect the Officers of the Association<br />
at the first Board meeting after the annual<br />
meeting by nomination <strong>and</strong> secret ballot.<br />
The President <strong>and</strong> Vice-President(s) must be<br />
currently serving on the Board of Directors. For<br />
a Director to be elected as President he/she must<br />
have served on the Board for the past year. The<br />
Secretary <strong>and</strong> Treasurer do not need to be members<br />
of the Association.<br />
Section 2. President.<br />
The President shall be the Chief Executive Officer<br />
of the Association, <strong>and</strong> shall preside at all<br />
meetings of the Board of Directors <strong>and</strong> Members.<br />
He shall be ex-officio a member of all<br />
committees. He shall maintain general supervision<br />
of the affairs of the Association. He shall<br />
see that the Bylaws, <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong> Regulations of<br />
the Association are enforced. He shall perform<br />
such other duties as may be prescribed by the<br />
Board of Directors.<br />
Section 3. Vice-President.<br />
In the absence of the President, the Vice-Presidents,<br />
in order of their seniority, shall have the<br />
powers <strong>and</strong> shall perform the duties of the President,<br />
<strong>and</strong> shall perform such other duties as may<br />
be prescribed by the Board of Directors.<br />
Section 4. Secretary.<br />
The Secretary shall act as the Chief Administrative<br />
Officer of the Association subject to the authority<br />
of the Board of Directors. He shall keep<br />
exact minutes of the Meetings of the Members<br />
<strong>and</strong> the Board of Directors; receive <strong>and</strong> verify<br />
entries for insertion in the official Herdbook; issue<br />
all Certificates of <strong>Membership</strong> <strong>and</strong> Registry,<br />
<strong>and</strong> keep a record of all such Certificates issued;<br />
edit <strong>and</strong> prepare the official Herdbook; keep on<br />
file all documents constituting the authority for<br />
pedigrees <strong>and</strong> hold them subject to the inspection<br />
of any member of the Association; keep a<br />
record of all transfers of animals; issue all notices<br />
of meetings; <strong>and</strong> execute all orders of the<br />
Board of Directors concerning matters pertaining<br />
to his office.<br />
Section 5. Treasurer.<br />
The Treasurer shall be the custodian of the cash<br />
funds <strong>and</strong> securities of the Association, shall<br />
deposit, invest, <strong>and</strong> disburse such funds as the<br />
Board of Directors may determine, <strong>and</strong> shall<br />
keep accurate records thereof.<br />
Section 6. Contracts.<br />
The written contracts of the Association shall<br />
be executed on behalf of the Association by the<br />
President, but he/she may specifically designate<br />
another officer to sign contracts which do not<br />
obligate the Association to expenditures higher<br />
than $10,000.<br />
Section 7. Compensation.<br />
The Officers of the Association shall receive<br />
such compensation as shall be fixed by the<br />
Board of Directors.<br />
ARTICLE V<br />
BOARD OF ADVISORS<br />
Section 1. Purpose.<br />
The Board of Advisors act as an advisory body<br />
to the Board of Directors to ensure that the<br />
Board of Directors underst<strong>and</strong>s the past history,<br />
goals, mission <strong>and</strong> philosophy of the Association<br />
before making significant decisions affecting<br />
the activities of the Association. The Board<br />
of Directors is required to request that the Board<br />
of Advisors attend any Board of Directors’<br />
meeting during which a discussion or vote will<br />
be or is taken involving significant decisions or<br />
changes in rules, policies, or bylaws <strong>with</strong> respect<br />
to the following activities:<br />
a. Association finances.<br />
b. Association staff.<br />
c. Legal action involving the Association.<br />
d. Registration, transfer, <strong>and</strong> inspec-<br />
tion of Corriente Cattle.<br />
e. Association sanctioned events.<br />
f. Location <strong>and</strong> function of Associa<br />
tion’s office <strong>and</strong> annual convention.<br />
g. Any other action which results in a<br />
major change in the goals, mission,<br />
or philosophy of the Association.<br />

Section 2. Composition.<br />
The Board of Advisors shall be composed of<br />
any of the following founding Directors <strong>and</strong><br />
Officers of the Association not serving as a Director<br />
of the Association (hereafter “founding<br />
Directors <strong>and</strong> Officers”):<br />

Other members shall include elected former<br />
Directors who shall be eligible for nomination<br />
<strong>and</strong> election to the Board of Advisors when no<br />
longer serving as members of the Board of Directors<br />
<strong>and</strong> after successful completion of two<br />
elected terms on the Board or Directors.<br />
Section 3. Nomination.<br />
Other than the founding Directors <strong>and</strong> Officers<br />
of the Association, former Directors eligible for<br />
nomination may be nominated for election to<br />
the Board of Directors by written nomination of<br />
at least three (3) serving members of the Board<br />
of Advisors.<br />
Section 4. Election.<br />
Other than the founding Directors <strong>and</strong> Officers<br />
of the Association, former Directors must be<br />
elected to the Board of Advisors. No former Directors<br />
shall be entitled to st<strong>and</strong> for election to<br />
the Board of Advisors unless eligible pursuant to<br />
Section 1 <strong>and</strong> nominated pursuant to Section 2<br />
above. Those entitled to vote in an election of a<br />
nominee to the Board of Advisors are members<br />
of the Board of Directors <strong>and</strong> members of the<br />
Board of Advisors currently serving at the time<br />
a former Director is nominated. Election to the<br />
Board of Advisors shall be by secret ballot <strong>and</strong><br />
requires an affirmative vote of two-thirds (2/3)<br />
of those entitled to vote. Although there shall be<br />
no specific number of members of the Board of<br />
Advisors, the number of members shall remain<br />
reasonable, <strong>and</strong> no former member of the Board<br />
of Directors shall automatically be elected to the<br />
Board of Advisors.<br />
Section 5. Function.<br />
The Board of Advisors shall not participate in<br />
the vote on any issues brought before the Board<br />
of Directors, but any member of the Board of<br />
Advisors present at Board of Directors’ meetings<br />
for consultation, as required pursuant to the<br />
above provisions, shall be consulted prior to the<br />
Directors’ vote.<br />
The Board of Advisors shall annually choose a<br />
chairman <strong>and</strong> shall meet as a body at such times<br />
<strong>and</strong> places as the Board of Advisors determines<br />
from time to time. Service on the Board of Advisors<br />
shall be for life or until a majority of the<br />
Board of Advisors votes for removal.<br />
Should the Board of Advisors, by majority vote,<br />
deem any decision or action of the Board of Directors<br />
inconsistent <strong>with</strong> the goals, mission, or<br />
philosophy of the Association , it shall be authorized<br />
to stay any such decision or action to<br />
a vote of the general membership at a special<br />
or regular meeting. Such meeting shall occur<br />
no later than sixty (60) days after the Board of<br />
Advisors stays such decision or action. At the<br />
meeting of the membership, the Board of Directors<br />
<strong>and</strong> the Board of Advisors shall present<br />
their respective positions to the membership<br />
before a vote is taken. A majority of those mem-<br />
bers in attendance at such meeting shall determine<br />
whether or not to uphold the decision or<br />
action of the Board of Directors.<br />
Each member of the Board of Advisors will receive<br />
the minutes of all meetings of the Board<br />
of Directors.<br />
ARTICLE VI<br />
DISCIPLINE, SUSPENSION,EXPULSION<br />
Section 1. Violations.<br />
Whenever any members of the Association or<br />
any other person in interest shall represent to the<br />
Secretary of the Association, in writing, stating<br />
the facts upon which the complaint is based, that<br />
a member of this Association, or any other person<br />
who is a holder of a Registration Certificate<br />
issued by this Association, has engaged in misrepresentation<br />
or misconduct in connection <strong>with</strong><br />
the breeding, showing, registration, purchase or<br />
sale of Corriente cattle, or has willfully violated<br />
the Bylaws, <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong> Regulations of this Association,<br />
the Secretary shall present such charge<br />
to the Board of Directors at a meeting or teleconference<br />
call scheduled for <strong>with</strong>in one month<br />
from receiving the complaint.<br />
Section 2. Hearing.<br />
Upon receiving a complaint, the Board of Directors<br />
shall set a time <strong>and</strong> place for hearing<br />
the charge or charges against the member or<br />
holder of a Registration Certificate. The Board<br />
of Directors shall cause a written notice to be<br />
mailed to the last known address of the accused<br />
person at least thirty (30) days before the date<br />
of such hearing. The notice shall state the time<br />
<strong>and</strong> place of the hearing <strong>and</strong> the nature of the<br />
charges against the accused.<br />
At the time <strong>and</strong> place set for the hearing, the accused<br />
shall have the opportunity, in person or by<br />
counsel, to be heard <strong>and</strong> to present evidence in<br />
his own behalf <strong>and</strong> to hear <strong>and</strong> refute evidence<br />
offered against him.<br />
The decision of the Board of Directors shall be<br />
final <strong>and</strong> binding on all parties.<br />
Section 3. Penalties.<br />
If the Board of Directors considers that the<br />
charges are sustained, it may suspend or expel<br />
such offender if a member of the Association,<br />
or impose such other appropriate penalties as<br />
it may decide <strong>and</strong> deprive him of all privileges<br />
in the official Herdbook of the Association, including<br />
refusal to transfer any Registration Certificate<br />
issued by this Association <strong>and</strong> cancellation<br />
of any registration of any animal st<strong>and</strong>ing<br />
in the name of the accused person. The Board,<br />
in its discretion, may also suspend <strong>and</strong> hold in<br />
abeyance during the pendency of any complaint<br />
before it, the privileges of membership in the<br />
Association if the accused is a member of the<br />
Association, or the right to transfer any Registration<br />
Certificate, if the accused is not a<br />
member.<br />
ARTICLE VII<br />
FEES, SERVICES, AND CHARGES<br />
Section 1. Fee Changes.<br />
All fees shall be established by the Board of Directors,<br />
<strong>and</strong> are subject to change by the Board.<br />
Section 2. Payment of Fees.<br />
All fees shall be paid in advance, accompanying<br />
requests for service.<br />
Section 3. Non-payment of Fees.<br />
Non-payment of fees because of defective remittances<br />
shall be sufficient cause for:<br />

SECTION 1:<br />
OFFICIAL BREEDING RECORD<br />
RULE 1.1 OFFICIAL HERDBOOK.<br />
The official herdbook of animal registrations<br />
shall be known as the North American Corriente<br />
Herdbook. This herdbook shall be maintained<br />
on computer <strong>with</strong> daily back-up <strong>and</strong> off-site<br />
storage.<br />
RULE 1.2 ENTRIES.<br />
Each entry in the herdbook shall contain the registration<br />
number, name of animal, sex, date of<br />
birth, names of breeder <strong>and</strong> owner, animal identification<br />
number, holding br<strong>and</strong> (if applicable)<br />
<strong>and</strong> the animal’s percentage Corriente blood. It<br />
shall also include the animal’s pedigree for up to<br />
three generations, if applicable.<br />
RULE 1.3 REGISTRY.<br />
The North American Corriente Herdbook shall<br />
include both the Purebred Registry <strong>and</strong> the Percentage<br />
Registry. Registration numbers will be<br />
issued consecutively. Registration numbers for<br />
the Percentage Registry shall end in “X”.<br />
SECTION 2: REGISTRATION<br />
RULE 2.1 PRIVILEGE OF REGISTRATION.<br />
Only Life, Active <strong>and</strong> Junior Members of the<br />
Association are eligible to register cattle in the<br />
North American Corriente Herdbook, under the<br />
<strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong> Regulations promulgated by the Association.<br />
A. Breeders List. The Breeders List is a list of<br />
<strong>NACA</strong> members who have registered calves<br />
they have bred <strong>with</strong>in two years of the publication<br />
of the list. Any breeder meeting this requirement<br />
will be designated as a breeder on the<br />
list, which is included in the published membership<br />
directory, unless they provide a written request<br />
to the contrary.<br />
RULE 2.2 ELIGIBILITY FOR<br />
REGISTRATION.<br />
The Board of Directors reserves the right to visually<br />
inspect or DNA test any animal before<br />
or after acceptance for registration. Corriente<br />
animals of any age for which application for<br />
registration is made may be registered <strong>with</strong> the<br />
Association upon proof of compliance <strong>with</strong> the<br />
following requirements:<br />
Bulls: The animal must be a purebred Corriente.<br />
as determined under the rules of the Association.<br />
a) Therefore, a bull must EITHER:<br />
- have an <strong>NACA</strong> registered sire <strong>and</strong> a purebred<br />
or seven-eighths blood registered dam,<br />
OR<br />
- if a bull lacks pedigree, he may be visually<br />
inspected to determine if he qualifies for acceptance<br />
into the registry. (See Rule 2.3.)<br />
b) A bull must have two, well-descended testicles<br />
in order to be eligible for acceptance into<br />
the registry.<br />
Cows: A female born before December 31, 2006<br />
must have at least an <strong>NACA</strong> registered sire. Females<br />
born after December 31, 2006 must have<br />
both a <strong>NACA</strong>-registered sire <strong>and</strong> dam to be eligible<br />
for registry.<br />
a) There is no visual inspection of females available<br />
for acceptance into the registry.<br />
Steers: A steer born before December 31, 2006<br />
must have at least an <strong>NACA</strong> registered sire.<br />
Steers born after December 31, 2006 must have<br />
both a <strong>NACA</strong>-registered sire <strong>and</strong> dam to be eligible<br />
for registry. (See Rule 5.2, paragraph A,<br />
clause 1.)<br />
a) There is no visual inspection of steers for<br />
acceptance into the registry.<br />
A. Percentage Bloodlines. All females <strong>and</strong><br />
steers for which application for registration is<br />
made shall be classified as half (1/2), threequarters<br />
(3/4), seven-eighths (7/8), or fifteensixteenths<br />
(15/16), or purebred Corriente, in<br />
accordance <strong>with</strong> the following rules:<br />
1. The product of a registered purebred Corriente<br />
sire <strong>with</strong> an unregistered female (no matter<br />
how much Corriente blood the dam may actually<br />
possess), born on or before December 31,<br />
2006, shall be classified as a halfblood Corriente.<br />
Halfbloods born after December 31, 2006<br />
are not eligible for registry.<br />
2. The product of a registered purebred Corriente<br />
sire <strong>and</strong> a registered half or three-quarter<br />
blood dam shall be classified as the average of<br />
the classifications of the sire <strong>and</strong> dam.<br />
3. The product of a registered purebred Corriente<br />
sire <strong>and</strong> a registered seven-eighths or<br />
purebred dam shall be classified as a purebred<br />
Corriente.<br />

B. Horns. Any animal registered <strong>with</strong> the Association<br />
must be horned.<br />
1. Altering Horns. The horns of an animal<br />
which is registered or for which application for<br />
registration is made may be tipped or cast for<br />
roping at any age, but shall not be cut, weighted,<br />
altered or tampered <strong>with</strong> in any other way.<br />
2. Show Animals. No bull or female less than<br />
three years old which is entered in an <strong>NACA</strong><br />
sanctioned show may have its horns tipped.<br />
Horns which are broken or have become misshapen<br />
due to natural occurrences are acceptable.<br />
Horns which have been cast may be allowed<br />
at the judge’s discretion.<br />
C. Multiple Sires.<br />
1. Multiple sire herds are permissible as long<br />
as each <strong>and</strong> every bull used <strong>with</strong> the cows is<br />
<strong>NACA</strong> registered.<br />
2. The registration application for each offspring<br />
of a multiple sire herd shall include the<br />
name <strong>and</strong> registration number of each bull to<br />
which the dam was exposed.<br />
3. A calf born to a female served by more than<br />
one <strong>NACA</strong> registered bull during the same heat<br />
period, or served by different bulls on consecutive<br />
heat periods shall not be eligible for registration<br />
as a single sire offspring but must be<br />
registered as multiple sired.<br />
4. The only exception to the rules for multiple<br />
sires is, if a DNA test proves <strong>with</strong> certainty that<br />
the calf is out of one <strong>NACA</strong>-registered bull <strong>and</strong><br />
all other bulls in the multiple sire group are excluded,<br />
that calf may be registered <strong>with</strong> that one<br />
bull as its sire.<br />
D. Multiple Births. Twins or other multiple<br />
births are eligible for registration, if other eligibility<br />
requirements are met, provided that the<br />
application for registry states that the calf is a<br />
twin or of other multiple birth. If one such calf<br />
is registered <strong>with</strong>out such statement, another<br />
subsequent calf of the same gestation cannot<br />
subsequently be registered.<br />
RULE 2.3 VISUAL INSPECTION.<br />
Only bulls <strong>with</strong>out a pedigree are accepted for<br />
registration by visual inspection. However, the<br />
Board of Directors reserves the right to inspect<br />
any animal prior to acceptance for registration.<br />
The Inspector shall only pass bulls who exhibit<br />
exceptional Corriente characteristics as per the<br />
Judging Guidelines.<br />
A. Age. No visual inspection shall occur before<br />
the animal is two years of age <strong>and</strong>/or has its two<br />
mature front teeth. Applications for registration<br />
by visual inspection may be filed <strong>with</strong> the Association<br />
at any time before or after the animal<br />
reaches the required age.<br />
B. Inspection Process. After the Association<br />
receives a complete application, the Board of<br />
Directors shall designate an Inspector to inspect<br />
the animal by photos <strong>and</strong> video. In some instances,<br />
the Inspector may recommend that an<br />
animal be inspected in the field. The decision of<br />
the Inspector is final. (See Rule 2.4, paragraph<br />
C.)<br />

C. Br<strong>and</strong>. All animals for which application for<br />
registration by visual inspection is made must<br />
be number br<strong>and</strong>ed before the application is<br />
submitted, <strong>and</strong> all br<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> their locations<br />
shall be stated on the application for registration.<br />
(See Rule 2.5.)<br />
RULE 2.4 APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION.<br />
To register an animal <strong>with</strong> the Association, the<br />
owner of the dam at the time of calving shall<br />
submit a complete, accurate, <strong>and</strong> properly<br />
signed registration application on the form provided<br />
by the Association <strong>with</strong> the correct registration<br />
fee. (See transmittal form.) If the applicant<br />
is not the owner of record of the sire(s), the<br />
sire owner’s signature is also required. Space<br />
is provided on the application form for this signature.<br />
(Also refer to Rule 2.2, paragraph D for<br />
registering calves of multiple births, Rule 3.4 for<br />
registering A.I. calves, Rule 4.1 for registering<br />
embryo transplant calves, Rule 5.1 paragraph D<br />
for registering calves to multiple owners, Rule<br />
6.2, paragraph B for registering <strong>and</strong> transferring<br />
calves from parent to child <strong>and</strong> Rule 7.4<br />
for computing calves into the North American<br />
Corriente Herdbook <strong>with</strong>out registration.)<br />
A. Application Forms. Application forms may<br />
be obtained from the Association office which<br />
are preprinted <strong>with</strong> all required information on<br />
each producing age female in an applicant’s<br />
herd. An applicant may also use blank forms.<br />
B. Time Limit. Whenever an application for<br />
registration is incomplete <strong>and</strong> the applicant has<br />
failed to provide all the information or fees required<br />
<strong>with</strong>in four (4) months of the date the application<br />
was received by the Association, such<br />
application shall be considered null <strong>and</strong> void.<br />
Any fee received by the Association will not be<br />
refunded.<br />
C. Application for Visual Inspection. Application<br />
for bulls requiring visual inspection shall be<br />
accompanied by four photographs of the animal<br />
taken from both sides, the front <strong>and</strong> rear, showing<br />
br<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> testicles. A short video is also<br />
required, showing the bull in close proximity to<br />
a person. A special application form for registration<br />
by visual inspection is available from the<br />
Association.<br />
RULE 2.5 ANIMAL IDENTIFICATION<br />
NUMBER.<br />
Every registered animal must have either a number<br />
br<strong>and</strong> or an ear tattoo number for identification.<br />
(For any animal requiring visual inspection<br />
a br<strong>and</strong> must be used.)<br />
A. Use of Both Marks. If both a br<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> a tattoo<br />
are used on an animal they shall be the same,<br />
EXCEPT percentage letters (A, B, C <strong>and</strong> P - See<br />
Rule 2.5, paragraph C) are not required in the<br />
ear tattoo when a number br<strong>and</strong> is also used.<br />
B. Before Registration. All animals for which<br />
application for registration is made must be<br />
number br<strong>and</strong>ed <strong>and</strong>/or ear tattooed before the<br />
application is submitted, <strong>and</strong> the mark <strong>and</strong> its<br />
location shall be stated on the application.<br />
C. Symbols Which May Be Used. Number<br />
br<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> tattoos must be st<strong>and</strong>ard Arabic<br />
numbers <strong>and</strong> English letters.<br />
1. The letters “A,” “B,” or “C” are required<br />
as the first symbol of the animal identification<br />
number on percentage cattle in order to designate<br />
percent Corriente. The letters A, B <strong>and</strong> C<br />
may not otherwise be used as the first symbol.<br />

The letter “P” may only be used as the first symbol<br />
of the br<strong>and</strong> or tattoo to designate that the<br />
animal is purebred, but it is not required. (See<br />
Rule 2.5, paragraph D.)<br />
D. Symbols Required. The first symbol of the<br />
br<strong>and</strong> or tattoo on Corriente percentage cattle is<br />
required to be:<br />
A for halfbloods<br />
B for three-quarter bloods<br />
C for seven-eighths bloods<br />
No letter is required for purebreds but a P may<br />
be used.<br />
E. Repetitive Use. No two animals of the same<br />
sex registered by the same breeder shall be<br />
given identical br<strong>and</strong>s or tattoos in the same<br />
location, EXCEPT a breeder may use the same<br />
mark <strong>and</strong> location on the same sex animal after<br />
twenty years.<br />
F. Number Br<strong>and</strong>s.<br />
1. Location. Number br<strong>and</strong>s may be placed<br />
in any location on the animal. Br<strong>and</strong> location<br />
should be reported on the application as follows:<br />
RH = right hip;<br />
RR = right rib;<br />
RS = right shoulder;<br />
LH = left hip;<br />
LR = left rib;<br />
LS = left shoulder;<br />
HB = Horn br<strong>and</strong>.<br />
2. Corrections. If the number br<strong>and</strong> on an animal<br />
becomes illegible, or the br<strong>and</strong> is put on incorrectly,<br />
then the br<strong>and</strong> shall be placed in a different<br />
location <strong>and</strong> no attempt shall be made to<br />
alter or over-imprint the old br<strong>and</strong>. If a Registration<br />
Certificate has been issued for the animal,<br />
it must be sent to the Association for correction.<br />
G. Ear Tattoos.<br />
1. Location. The tattoo can be located in one or<br />
both ears of the animal. Tattoo location should<br />
be reported on the application as follows:<br />
LE = left ear;<br />
RE = right ear;<br />
BE = both ears.<br />
2. Corrections. If the tattoo of an animal becomes<br />
unreadable or is put on incorrectly, the<br />
tattoo shall be placed in a different lobe of the<br />
ear <strong>and</strong> no attempt shall be made to alter or<br />
over-imprint the old tattoo. If a Registration<br />
Certificate has been issued for the animal <strong>and</strong><br />
the new tattoo has been placed in a different ear<br />
than is indicated on the Registration Certificate,<br />
the certificate must be sent to the Association for<br />
correction.<br />
RULE 2.6 HOLDING BRANDS.<br />
The use of holding br<strong>and</strong>s is optional. (Holding<br />
br<strong>and</strong>s are the br<strong>and</strong>s used in some areas to<br />
identify the owner of livestock.)<br />
RULE 2.7 NAMES FOR CATTLE AND HERDS<br />
A. Cattle Names. An animal’s name cannot contain<br />
more than 28 characters <strong>and</strong> spaces. Only<br />
English letters <strong>and</strong> Arabic numbers shall be acceptable.<br />
Joined letters, br<strong>and</strong>s or other unusual<br />
marks or symbols will not be accepted.<br />
1. Repetitive Use. A breeder may use a name<br />
only once in 20 years.<br />
2. Name Change by <strong>NACA</strong>. The Association<br />
reserves the right to change the name of any<br />
animal on the application for registry.<br />

3. Name Change by Owner. The registrant of<br />
an animal may apply to change the registered<br />
name of the animal if: a) the animal has never<br />
been transferred to another owner, b) the animal<br />
has never been used for breeding purposes <strong>and</strong><br />
c) the animal has no show record. (See transmittal<br />
form.)<br />
B. Reserved Herd Name. A <strong>NACA</strong> member<br />
may register one name <strong>with</strong> the Association to<br />
be reserved exclusively for his/her use as the<br />
first name for cattle raised in his/her herd. This<br />
name cannot be used by anyone else as the first<br />
word of an animal’s name.<br />
SECTION 3: ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION<br />
RULE 3.1 QUALIFICATION.<br />
Only bulls which have been registered in the<br />
North American Corriente Herdbook <strong>and</strong> have<br />
also been recorded as an A.I. Sire under the provisions<br />
herein may be listed as sires for registering<br />
offspring which are the result of artificial<br />
insemination.<br />
RULE 3.2 APPLICATION AND FEE.<br />
The recorded bull owner shall submit a completed<br />
<strong>and</strong> properly signed Application for Recording<br />
A.I. Sire on the form provided by the<br />
Association office. The fee charged for recording<br />
an A.I. sire must accompany the application.<br />
(See transmittal form.)<br />
RULE 3.3 SERVICE CERTIFICATES.<br />
After a completed A.I. Sire Application <strong>and</strong> the<br />
correct fee is received by the Association, 100<br />
Service Certificates will be issued to the applicant.<br />
These certificates are required for registering<br />
A.I. calves. (See Rule 3.4.)<br />
A. List of Available Semen. After a bull is registered<br />
as an A.I. sire, the bull <strong>and</strong> owner are listed<br />
on the List of Available Semen.<br />
B. Additional Certificates may be obtained, at a<br />
fee, from the Association by the original applicant.<br />
Application for additional certificates must<br />
be on a form provided by the Association.<br />
RULE 3.4 REGISTERING A.I. CALVES.<br />
For each calf to be registered, the breeder (owner<br />
on record of female at time of conception)<br />
should obtain a properly completed <strong>and</strong> signed<br />
A.I. Service Certificate <strong>with</strong> the purchase of<br />
semen. The A.I. Service Certificate must accompany<br />
the application for registration of the<br />
resulting offspring.<br />
RULE 3.5 LABELING SEMEN.<br />
It shall be the responsibility of the owner(s) of<br />
record of a bull used artificially to require each<br />
person or organization collecting, processing<br />
<strong>and</strong> freezing semen to identify <strong>and</strong> permanently<br />
label each container <strong>with</strong> the full registered<br />
name <strong>and</strong> <strong>NACA</strong> number of the bull <strong>and</strong> the<br />
date of collection. When semen is not properly<br />
labeled it may not be used to produce calves for<br />
registration in the North American Corriente<br />
Herdbook.<br />
RULE 3.6 MAINTENANCE OF RECORDS.<br />
It shall be the responsibility of the owner(s) of<br />
record of a bull to maintain an accurate record<br />
of each semen collection <strong>and</strong> a complete <strong>and</strong><br />
accurate record of each semen sale or transfer<br />
to another person or firm. Such records shall<br />
be held for inspection by representatives of the<br />
Association upon request for a period of seven<br />
years.
SECTION 4: EMBRYO TRANSPLANT<br />
RULE 4.1 REGISTERING CALVES.<br />
Calves produced by embryo transplant are eligible<br />
for registration, if other eligibility requirements<br />
are met, provided that the application for<br />
registration states that the calf is the product of<br />
embryo transplant.<br />
RULE 4.2 VERIFICATION FOR REGISTRY.<br />
A signed statement verifying the dams used to<br />
produce embryos for transplant <strong>and</strong> identifying<br />
them by <strong>NACA</strong> Registration Certificate number<br />
must be filed <strong>with</strong> the Association by the owner<br />
of the dams <strong>and</strong> the firm or individual performing<br />
the transplant. This verification must be filed<br />
before the resulting calves can be registered.<br />
SECTION 5: CERTIFICATE OF<br />
REGISTRATION<br />
RULE 5.1 REQUIREMENTS.<br />
A registration number shall not be assigned to an<br />
animal nor a certificate issued until the requirements<br />
of the <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong> Regulations are met.<br />
A. Duplicate Certificates. The existence of<br />
more than one registration certificate per animal<br />
shall not be permitted except in the case of<br />
multiple ownership. (See Rule 5.1, paragraph D,<br />
section la.) In the case of loss or destruction of<br />
an original certificate, a request for a duplicate<br />
certificate must be made in writing stating the<br />
reason for the request <strong>and</strong> it must be signed by<br />
the last owner shown on the certificate. This certificate<br />
will be labeled as a duplicate.<br />
B. Transfers. Each time an animal is transferred<br />
the Association will generate a new certificate<br />
showing the breeder <strong>and</strong> current owner on the<br />
front.<br />
C. Joint <strong>Membership</strong>. In the case of joint membership,<br />
Registration Certificates <strong>and</strong> other material<br />
from the Association will be mailed to the<br />
address shown on the membership application.<br />
D. Multiple Ownership. An animal may belong<br />
to multiple owners who do not share a joint<br />
membership in the Association. If, upon application<br />
for registration or transfer, each owner’s<br />
share of ownership is unspecified, an animal<br />
shall be considered as belonging to one owner.<br />
If the percentage of ownership is specified, an<br />
animal shall be considered to have multiple<br />
owners. Each multiple owner may not own less<br />
than one quarter interest in an animal.<br />
1. The name of each multiple owner will appear<br />
on the front of each registration certificate. A record<br />
of each owner’s percentage of ownership<br />
will be kept by the Association.<br />
a. Each owner will receive an original registration<br />
certificate.<br />
2. An application to register an animal to multiple<br />
owners must include the name of each<br />
owner <strong>and</strong> their percentage of ownership. All<br />
owners must sign the application. Regular fees<br />
will apply for each animal.<br />
RULE 5.2 CHANGES, ERRORS AND<br />
CORRECTIONS<br />
All information on registration applications<br />
must be accurate according to the requirements<br />
set forth in these rules. If it is determined to be<br />
inaccurate after the Registration certificate is issued,<br />
the certificate shall become null <strong>and</strong> void<br />
<strong>and</strong> shall be surrendered to the Association for<br />
correction <strong>and</strong> reissue, (see transmittal form) or<br />
for cancellation.<br />
A. Changes. Any changes, additions or deletions<br />
on a certificate must be made at the Association<br />
office. Any unauthorized entry shall<br />
render a certificate null <strong>and</strong> void <strong>and</strong> will only<br />
be replaced after payment of the usual fee.<br />
1. A certificate for an animal first registered as<br />
a bull may be reissued to show that animal as a<br />
steer when the owner submits the Registration<br />
Certificate to the Association office <strong>and</strong> requests<br />
the change. No fee will be charged.<br />
B. Errors by the Applicant. Errors committed<br />
by the applicant on registration applications or<br />
transfers shall be corrected after payment of the<br />
usual fees. (See transmittal form.)<br />
C. Errors by the Association Office. Errors on<br />
Registration Certificates or transfers committed<br />
by the Association office shall be corrected free<br />
of charge if the office is notified <strong>with</strong>in thirty<br />
(30) days of when the certificate is received by<br />
the applicant or new owner. After thirty days a<br />
fee is charged.<br />
D. Holding Br<strong>and</strong>. The holding br<strong>and</strong> shown<br />
on a registration certificate shall only reflect the<br />
information submitted on the original application<br />
for registration.<br />
RULE 5.3 SURRENDER OF<br />
REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE.<br />
When a registered animal is lost by death, destruction<br />
or other means, or is disposed of for<br />
slaughter or as a common grade animal, it shall<br />
be the responsibility of the holder of the Registration<br />
Certificate to return it to the Association<br />
for cancellation, <strong>with</strong> a statement to indicate the<br />
method of disposition. After the cancellation,<br />
the certificate will be returned to the holder,<br />
upon request. Alternately, members may dispose<br />
of registered cattle by indicating the code<br />
for their disposal on the appropriate space on<br />
the registration form or herd inventory report.<br />
Registration certificates may be retained by the<br />
member for their records or destroyed.<br />
RULE 5.4 MISREPRESENTATION<br />
OR FRAUD<br />
A. Declaring Certificate Null <strong>and</strong> Void. If an<br />
animal’s registration has been obtained through<br />
willful misrepresentation or fraud, or if the date<br />
of birth, identification number, sire, dam, or<br />
service by natural or artificial insemination has<br />
been purposely misrepresented, the Board of<br />
Directors may declare the registration null <strong>and</strong><br />
void, together <strong>with</strong> any registration which may<br />
have been made of descendants of an animal so<br />
registered.<br />
B. Consequences. When a registration has<br />
been obtained by means of misrepresentation<br />
or fraud, the Board of Directors may instruct<br />
the Secretary to refuse to receive subsequent<br />
applications of any kind signed by a person or<br />
persons implicated in said misrepresentation or<br />
fraud <strong>and</strong> may take appropriate action as provided<br />
by Article VI of the Bylaws.<br />
SECTION 6: TRANSFERS OF OWNERSHIP<br />
RULE 6.1 PRIVILEGE OF TRANSFER.<br />
Life, Active <strong>and</strong> Junior Members of the Association<br />
are eligible to transfer cattle in the North<br />
American Corriente Herdbook, under the <strong>Rules</strong><br />
<strong>and</strong> Regulations promulgated by the Association.<br />
Nonmembers may transfer cattle at double<br />
the regular fees.<br />
RULE 6.2 TRANSFER REQUIREMENTS.<br />
Every change of ownership of record of a registered<br />
animal must be recorded by official transfer<br />
on the records of the Association.<br />
A. Person Responsible for Transfer. It shall be<br />
the duty of the transferor (seller) to apply for<br />
transfer <strong>and</strong> to pay the transfer fee. (See transmittal<br />
form.)<br />
B. Parent-Child Transfers. A transfer fee is not<br />
required if an animal is transferred either from<br />
parent to child or child to parent at the time of<br />
application for registration of the animal. Both<br />
the parent <strong>and</strong> child must be Life, Active or Junior<br />
members of the Association.<br />
C. Multiple Owner Transfers.<br />
1. A seller to multiple owners will complete an<br />
application for transfer to each new owner <strong>with</strong><br />
an interest in the animal including him/herself<br />
should he/she maintain an interest. The new<br />
owner’s percentage of interest must be stated on<br />
the transfer form. The regular fee must accompany<br />
each transfer application.<br />
2. Each owner of an interest may sell all or part<br />
of his/her interest in an animal as long as no<br />
fraction of ownership is less than one quarter.<br />
D. Verifying Animal for Transfer. It shall be<br />
the duty of the transferor before offering a registered<br />
animal for sale or applying for transfer, to<br />
verify that the animal carries a legible, permanent<br />
identification number corresponding to the<br />
identification number entered on its Registration<br />
Certificate.<br />
E. Transfer Only Registered Animals. A transfer<br />
application may not be sent to the Association<br />
before the application for registration for<br />
that animal is sent to the Association, but both<br />
applications may be sent at the same time accompanied<br />
by the correct fees for both applications.<br />
(See Rule 6.3.)<br />
RULE 6.3 APPLICATION FOR TRANSFER.<br />
Application for transfer shall be made either: (1)<br />
on the form on the back of the Registration Certificate,<br />
or (2) on the application for registration<br />
at the time of registration, or (3) on a separate<br />
transfer form provided by the Association. It<br />
must be signed by the transferor or his/her authorized<br />
agent. The transfer application must be<br />
sent to the Association accompanied by the animal’s<br />
registration certificate, if applicable, <strong>and</strong><br />
the correct fee(s).<br />
A. Time Limits<br />
1. The transferor is required to submit an application<br />
for transfer <strong>with</strong>in thirty (30) days of the<br />
actual change of ownership of the animal. After<br />
thirty (30) days the usual fee is doubled, <strong>and</strong> after<br />
sixty (60) days the transferor is considered<br />
negligent <strong>and</strong> is subject to Rule 6.6.<br />
2. Whenever an application for transfer is incomplete<br />
<strong>and</strong> the applicant has failed to provide<br />
all of the information required <strong>with</strong>in four (4)<br />
months of the date the application was received<br />
by the Association, such application shall be<br />
considered null <strong>and</strong> void. An application shall<br />
be considered incomplete if not signed by the<br />
transferor or if not accompanied by the correct<br />
fee. Any fee received by the Association will not<br />
be refunded.<br />
RULE 6.4 TRANSFER BY AFFIDAVIT.<br />
In cases of neglect or refusal of a member or<br />

nonmember of the Association to apply for<br />
transfer of registration, the transfer may be recorded,<br />
if approved by a majority of the members<br />
of the Board of Directors, on the basis of<br />
the transferee’s affidavit setting forth the facts<br />
<strong>and</strong> sworn to or affirmed before a Notary Public.<br />
Each such affidavit must be accompanied by<br />
proof of sale <strong>and</strong> proof of payment in full of the<br />
purchase price of the animal, or by the evidence<br />
of an agreement to sell, purchase or transfer, including<br />
the terms <strong>and</strong> conditions of service, if<br />
any, in the case of females.<br />
RULE 6.5 PUBLIC SALES.<br />
Sale managers or their representatives may fill<br />
in buyer’s names on transfer of animals consigned<br />
to public sales, <strong>and</strong>, if authorized by<br />
the consignor, can sign such applications in his<br />
stead. Written authorization signed by the consignor<br />
must be sent to the Association before the<br />
date of the sale. Such transfer applications must<br />
clearly show the names of the sale manager or<br />
agent representing the consignor, <strong>and</strong> also be<br />
signed by him. Applications executed under this<br />
Rule are subject to Rule 6.6.<br />
RULE 6.6 MISREPRESENTATION<br />
OR FRAUD<br />
A. Declaring Transfer Null <strong>and</strong> Void. If an animal’s<br />
registration has been transferred through<br />
misrepresentation or fraud, the Board of Directors<br />
may declare the transfer null together <strong>with</strong><br />
any registrations of purported descendants of<br />
the animal which may have been recorded during<br />
the period of such misrepresented or fraudulent<br />
transfer.<br />
B. Consequences. When a transfer has been obtained<br />
by means of misrepresentation or fraud,<br />
the Board of Directors may take appropriate action<br />
as provided by Article VI of the Bylaws,<br />
<strong>and</strong> instruct the Secretary to refuse to receive<br />
subsequent applications of any kind signed by<br />
any person or persons implicated in said misrepresentation<br />
or fraud.<br />
SECTION 7: HERD RECORDS<br />
RULE 7.1 REQUIREMENTS.<br />
Owners of registered cattle shall maintain accurate<br />
breeding <strong>and</strong> herd records, in which shall be<br />
noted the animal identification number <strong>and</strong> such<br />
other information concerning their breeding, ancestry<br />
<strong>and</strong> date of birth as will make clear <strong>and</strong><br />
positive for all time the parentage of an animal<br />
offered for registration in the North American<br />
Corriente Herdbook.<br />
A. Bull Records. The owner of a registered<br />
bull used for either natural service or artificial<br />
insemination shall maintain annual breeding records<br />
for each bull during each year. This record<br />
shall be segregated as follows:<br />
1. Natural Service - Identification by <strong>NACA</strong><br />
registration certificate number of <strong>NACA</strong> registered<br />
cows exposed, the number of non-<strong>NACA</strong><br />
cows exposed, date(s) of exposure <strong>and</strong> location<br />
of service.<br />
2. Artificial Insemination:<br />
- units used by the owner of the bull<br />
- number of units sold<br />
This record shall not be filed <strong>with</strong> the Association<br />
but must be retained by the owner of the<br />
bull for at least four years <strong>and</strong> shall be available<br />
for examination by the Association upon<br />
request.<br />

RULE 7.2 HERD INVENTORY.<br />
An inventory of all cattle registered to one owner<br />
may be obtained by that owner from the Association<br />
office for a fee. (See transmittal form.)<br />
This inventory may be updated <strong>and</strong> returned to<br />
the office in order to keep an accurate, up-todate<br />
inventory on record.<br />
A. Inventories on producing age females may<br />
also be kept up-to-date by filling in the appropriate<br />
disposal code for the dam on registration<br />
application forms.<br />
RULE 7.3 LIFETIME DAM<br />
PRODUCTION SUMMARY.<br />
Each time the progeny of an <strong>NACA</strong> registered<br />
cow is registered or computed the Association<br />
office will send a complete summary of all the<br />
cow’s calves which have been registered or<br />
computed to the registered owner of the dam.<br />
This summary will not be entirely accurate if<br />
some calves have not been registered or computed.<br />
A. Additional copies of a Lifetime Dam Production<br />
Summary are available from the Association<br />
office for a fee. (See transmittal form.)<br />
RULE 7.4 COMPUTING<br />
UNREGISTERED CATTLE.<br />
In order to make a Lifetime Dam Production<br />
Summary more complete, any progeny of an<br />
<strong>NACA</strong> registered cow may be computed into<br />
the <strong>NACA</strong> Herdbook, at any age, instead of being<br />
registered.<br />
A. Requirements for Computing. To compute<br />
an animal, an application for registration must<br />
be submitted to the Association office <strong>with</strong><br />
the correct fee for computing. (See transmittal<br />
form.) The application must include at least the<br />
correct information on the animal’s dam, sire,<br />
sex <strong>and</strong> date of birth. The box for Registration<br />
Code (REG) must be marked “C” for “compute<br />
only.”<br />
B. Changing computes to registered status.<br />
Cattle which have been computed may later be<br />
registered by updating the registration report<br />
received when an animal is computed <strong>and</strong> submitting<br />
it to the Association office <strong>with</strong> the appropriate<br />
registration fee based on the animal’s<br />
current age.<br />
RULE 7.5 EXAMINATION OF RECORDS.<br />
The Board of Directors may investigate or<br />
cause to be investigated, examined, identified<br />
or bloodtyped any registered animal or herd<br />
<strong>and</strong> may examine the breeding <strong>and</strong> herd records<br />
maintained by a member or non-member of the<br />
Association for the purpose of verifying applications<br />
for registry or records on file in the Association<br />
office, or for the purpose of investigating<br />
other matters in which the Association may<br />
be interested.<br />
A. Herd Status Reports. If, upon investigation<br />
by the Board of Directors, it is determined that<br />
breeding or herd records, or herd management<br />
practices are inadequate to assure the accurate<br />
identification of animals in a herd, then the<br />
Board may require periodic reports of the current<br />
herd status until such time as the Board is<br />
satisfied that compliance <strong>with</strong> the rules of the<br />
Association is assured.<br />
B. Expenses. Any expense incurred by the Association<br />
in the process of examination <strong>and</strong><br />
verification may be charged to the owner of the<br />
herd.<br />

C. Violations. If, upon investigation, the Board<br />
of Directors shall determine that the herd records<br />
or management practices relating to such<br />
records of either a member or nonmember of<br />
the Association are such that the purity of the<br />
Corriente breed may be impaired, or has been<br />
impaired, then the Board may, in their discretion,<br />
take action under the provisions of Article<br />
VI of the Bylaws.<br />
SECTION 8: HARDSHIP<br />
RULE 8.1 WAIVING RULES AND<br />
REGULATIONS.<br />
The Board of Directors reserves the right to<br />
waive compliance <strong>with</strong> any rule or regulation in<br />
cases of hardship where compliance is not reasonably<br />
possible.<br />
SECTION 9: MISCELLANEOUS<br />
RULE 9.1 USE OF ASSOCIATION LOGO.<br />
The logos of the Association are copyrighted<br />
<strong>and</strong> may not be used for any purpose by any<br />
<strong>NACA</strong> member or nonmember <strong>with</strong>out permission<br />
from the Association office.
