CYPRESS COMMUNITY GARDENING NETWORK:

A Collaborative Network Created to Impact Our Cypress Community

During these difficult times it’s important to connect with and support our

community. Cypress Community Garden Network (CCGN) was established

to build a community centered around the pursuit of gardening; enabling

neighbors to share resources, engage in events and learn from each other.

Through this collaborative group, we can positively impact our Cypress

community - supporting local business, building relationships and

providing organic produce (among other services) to those in need.

CCGN would like to partner with gardening groups and businesses within

the Cypress community in order to build a local gardening community.

We meet once a month to share knowledge, resources and support each

other in providing organic food. Together we will have a larger impact on

our community. If you are interested join us on Facebook (https://www.

facebook.com/groups/301148661234375) to begin discussions on how

we can work together and when our next meeting date and time will occur.

Two of our members Messiah Community Garden and Oasis Garden are

highlighted below. They have been working together by learning best

practices and sharing resources.

MESSIAH LUTHERAN COMMUNITY GARDEN

One of the gardens our organization works with is Messiah Lutheran

Community Garden, a donation garden that supports: Cypress Assistant

Ministries, educates and advocates for growing the garden community.

We invite you to join us. Opportunities include:

• Volunteering to help with gardening efforts every Monday at 6:30 PM

and Thursday morning at 8 AM. All are welcome to participate.

You can register for these events at this link: www.messahlc.org/currentevents.

Find Messiah Community Garden on Facebook at https://www.

facebook.com/messiahcommunitygarden.

OASIS GARDEN

We are a community garden in Cypress, Texas that operates under the

Living Legacy Center, a non-profit that supports veterans, the disabled

and families in need in our community. Our gardeners are all volunteers.

Some of our projects include:

• Providing food for the community, gardeners and for the Saturday

Farmers Market, which is held every Saturday, 9 AM-12 PM at 12527

Cypress North Houston Rd.

• Community garden plots include: 15 leased vegetable plots, a butterfly

garden area, a wildflower area, fruit trees and our latest addition- a

watermelon patch.

• We are an Urban Harvest affiliated garden and we also host activities

open to families and children at the garden.

Find Oasis on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/legacyoasis.

CCGN is looking forward to beginning new dialog with the gardening

community as we prepare for fall/winter Gardening. Happy Gardening!!!

BE NATURAL: THE KEY TO

SURVIVING THE HOLIDAY SEASON

B - Breathe deeply, it will help increase energy levels.

E - Exercise: 20 minutes, three times a week - and running from

errand to errand doesn’t count!

N - Nutrition: Three well-balanced meals each day.

A - Attitude: Negative attitudes are contagious and destructive. Try

to see the glass half full.

T - Time management: Set priorities and don’t take on more than you

can handle.

U - Uniqueness: Recognize and treasure your own uniqueness. Say

“no” when necessary.

R - Relaxation: Private time to read or listen to music - a time not to

focus on the next item to do.

A - Associations: Maintain contact with nurturing support systems -

colleagues, friends, family.

L - Laughter: Still the best medicine.

STREET LIGHT OUTAGE

Please report any street light outage to Centerpoint. Repairs can take up

to 3 weeks to be repaired, but the most recent request we made took only

2 days! It is imperative that residents participate in reporting outages,

as there is no formal nighttime inspection done by management or

Centerpoint.

It’s simple, just go to www.centerpointenergy.com/outage and fill in the

required information. You’ll need the 6 digit number located at the base

of the light pole and an approximate address/location of the outage. You

may also report it by dialing 713-207-2222.
