ABOUT US

Put simply, we plan and deliver journeys so you don’t have to. We, along with our

talented team, are all travel aficionados. Putting our many years of personal experience

to good use, we craft itineraries to suit you, your interests, your budget. Not only is

travel our passion, it is our mission to provide the very best level of service and expert

specialist knowledge – never more important than in today’s world. This is no ordinary

travel, this is memorable travel with personality, designed to inspire.

ANGELA PIRIE

With a background in group travel and product research, Ange is dedicated to

ensuring that your journey is personalised and exceeds expectations. Having

travelled to many inspiring destinations, Ange’s knowledge of Africa is secondto-none.

A few of her highlights have been hot air ballooning over the Serengeti,

swimming with dolphins in Zanzibar, and on a recent trip to Myanmar, e-biking

around the temples of Bagan.

CHRIS LYONS

Chris started his travelling career in the mid 1970’s, spending over a year travelling

Central and South America, a part of the world for which he has a real passion,

and a region he returns to regularly. Fascinated with history and archaeology,

Chris has delighted in exploring historical treasures including Angkor Wat,

Machu Picchu, and the Persepolis ruins. Many years of hosting tours means

Chris has a real understanding of the needs of every traveller.

BRETT BARCLAY

Brett has visited over 100 countries but the bucket list keeps growing! Highlights

include being in the Rio Carnival, exploring West Africa, and being immersed

in Japanese culture in ryokans (traditional inns). Brett is an avid cruiser, a rail

buff, and a huge fan of family travel (as his son can testify!). Latest adventures

include Ethiopia, “One of the most fascinating countries I have ever been to”, an

expedition cruise to Antarctica, and meeting the mountain gorillas of Uganda.

KATE COULING

With a 12-month OE that somehow stretched out to 12 years, Kate has a

particular passion for the history, people, and culture of North Africa and the

Middle East, even choosing to live in the region long enough to learn Arabic.

However, she is equally content getting lost in the alleys of Venice Island, chatting

to child monks in Bhutan, or checking in to the Manor Houses of Ireland. If

travel is a bug, Kate is delighted to have caught it.

World Journeys is a member of the Travel Agents Association of New Zealand (TAANZ) and

participates in the TAANZ Bonding Scheme for the protection of the consumer.

Since Victorian times, Scotland’s West Highland Line has borne savvy travellers from the vibrant, sophisticated Lowland

metropolis of Glasgow into some of Scotland’s most dramatic and distinctive vistas. On the journey to Fort William,

marvel at lochs, wooded hills, river-formed gorges, plus the untrammelled Zen-like wilderness of Rannoch Moor.

DAY 1 GLASGOW

Join your fellow travellers this evening for a welcome dinner

hosted by your tour leader.

DAY 2 GLASGOW > WEST HIGHLAND LINE > LOCH NESS

Leaving Glasgow, your train will skirt the Firth of Clyde onto

wooded slopes above Gare Loch, Loch Long and Loch Goil,

before gliding effortlessly around Loch Lomond’s famously

bonnie banks. Step off at Fort William and glimpse nearby

Ben Nevis on your transfer to the southern shores of Loch

Ness. Stretch your legs with a walk to a stirring memorial for

WW2 commandos.

DAY 3 LOCH NESS

Head to the historic village of Dores on the loch’s lesser-visited

side. En route you’ll stop at the Falls of Foyers, tumbling 60m

through sylvan woods. End the afternoon amid 1000 years of

history at the ruins of Urquhart Castle. Imagine ancient feasts

in the Great Hall, then take in some final loch vistas from atop

the Grant Tower before returning to Fort Augustus.

DAY 4 FORT AUGUSTUS > ISLE OF SKYE

Board the Jacobite steam train to complete your trip on the

West Highland Line. Tick off Britain’s deepest freshwater loch

(Loch Morar), shortest river (River Morar) plus the deepest

seawater loch in Europe (Loch Nevis) along the shore where

Bonnie Prince Charlie landed in 1745. On a clear day, you can

glimpse the islands of Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna – plus your

day’s final destination, the Isle of Skye.

DAY 5 ISLE OF SKYE

Take in the high points of this largest island in the Inner

Hebrides in the company of a guide born and bred on Skye. As

you explore the Trotternish peninsula, look out for the attractive

crofting township of Staffin and the Museum of Island Life.

In the thriving village of Dunvegan, admire a picture-perfect

shoreline castle that has been ancestral seat of the MacLeods for

eight centuries – longer than any other clan.

DAY 6 ISLE OF SKYE > KYLE OF

LOCHALSH > INVERNESS

Heading back across the Skye bridge to the mainland, Kyle of

Lochalsh marks the start of your 80-mile train ride to Inverness.

Before boarding, you’ll stop to admire the 13th century Eilean

Donan Castle, perched exquisitely on a loch islet. Pretty coastal

villages like Plockton jostle for attention with deserted beaches

and mountain views, while the sharp-eyed may spot seals, otters

or hunting eagles.

DAY 7 INVERNESS > EDINBURGH

Depart Inverness station, and travel southward past Aviemore

and the rugged slopes of the Cairngorm National Park. Beyond

the ancient city of Perth – Scotland’s capital for five centuries

– rolling fields and lush woods usher you towards the Firth of

Forth, crossed with the distinctive metal filigree of the iconic

Forth Rail Bridge. Grab a glimpse of Edinburgh Castle as you

arrive in the heart of Scotland’s capital and journey’s end.

INCLUDES: Small group tour (max 15 people), 6 nights’

accommodation in small family run hotels, rail travel as

specified, sightseeing at Loch Ness, entry to Urquart Castle

and tour of Skye, transfers as shown, 6 breakfasts, 2 lunches

and 3 dinners.

DEPARTS: May 9; Jun 13; Jul 4; Aug 15; Sep 5; Oct 3.

can be heard roaring 30 miles inland. Then passing the northern

headland of Jura, where George Orwell’s cottage can still be seen

where he wrote 1984. Our destination is an anchorage in the

upper reaches of beautiful Loch Sween. We will pass the natural

anchorage of Tayvallich, once a famous Viking harbour.

Crinan Canal: Crinan Canal has truly magnificent scenery

and is rich in history, with many world-class heritage sites. It

is a designated wildlife reserve with miles of forest walks and

cycle ways.

Isle of Luing: Guests can be dropped off at the little village

of Toberonochy and do the lovely walk to the Atlantic Islands

Centre.

Tobermory: One of the most picturesque towns in the Hebrides.

If you wish, we can make time to visit the local distillery or visit

eagles (Mull is the best place in the UK to see eagles).

Loch Aline: In the picturesque Loch Aline there are woodland

walks and, at the head of the loch, is ancient Ardtornish estate

and woodland gardens.

The Ship

An ex-tallship, St Hilda, sails with just 6 guests. The well-lit,

roomy deck saloon is where everyone dines and socialises.

Cabins are warm and comfortable with six berths for our guests:

GIVING BACK

As you will see in this brochure, we visit some of the most pristine locations in the world; some are home to a

local population less fortunate than ours, to endangered wildlife, or to fragile environments and ecosystems.

All too often, their plight goes unseen, whether its the

devastation in marine environments caused by ghost nets

in the Indian Ocean, cheetah being poisoned in Namibia,

rhino massacred for their horns, or the struggles of disabled

children in India. World Journeys is proud to support a

number of charitable organisations in their quest to

minimise humankind’s impact on the environment and

bring relief to those in need. Join us in aiding these noble

organisations to keep our world beautiful and prosperous

so that future generations can enjoy inspiring journeys of

their own.

WE SUPPORT THESE ORGANISATIONS

Travellers help struggling schools in the areas they

visit by packing supplies such as pencils, soccer
