We’ve been told by the lovely Lindt chocolatiers that gin and chocolate
make a perfect pairing. And as members of a team who’ve never said no to
a gin, or turned down a chocolate, we’re just all over this! What you do is
take a bite of the chocolate and let the rich flavour coat your mouth.
Then take a sip of the liquid and it will strip the oils from your palate
and intertwine with the chocolate. Suggested pairings are Mint Intense
with Inverroche Classic and Indian tonic (the peppermint enhances
the gin’s citrus, ginger and cardamom flavours); A Touch of Sea Salt
with Inverroche Verdant and elderflower tonic (the salt brings out the
sweet marzipan and coconut notes of the gin); or Lindt Excellence
70% Cocoa with Inverroche Amber on ice with a curl of orange (dark,
intense, with hints of citrus, vanilla and toffee ... this one’s our fave).
Not just for
kids. Christmas
isn’t the same
without a candy cane ...
on your place setting, tied
to a gift, hanging from
the tree. R17.99 each from
This December we may be staying
closer to home, so it would be good
idea to have some enjoyable recipes
and projects to keep the family busy.
Advent, by Kerstin Niehoff and Laura
Fleiter, is full of old-fashioned Christmas
goodness. Although aimed at those
enjoying the season in the Northern
hemisphere, it’s still got plenty for us
to enjoy, from orange and cinnamon
syrup and red velvet cranberry cake to
table garlands, salt dough decorations,
watercolour Christmas cards, and
door wreaths. And if you’ve a friend
who’s not mad about the season, but
does have a sense of humour, there’s
a recipe for Grinch Cookies .... a jar of
these chewy green cookies would
make an appropriate gift. R300.
Joy to The World ... these
festive treats – two dozen
of them – are certainly
a joy. Created by Silke
Martin, the book has
recipes for cookies and
biscuits from around the
world, perfect to serve at
teatime or give as sweet
gifts R170. And if you can’t
be bothered to make
your own .... Woolworths
(as always) to the rescue.
The festive Holiday Treats
collection is a sweet as can
be ... we love this DIY braai
