message
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
I want to wish you and your family a happy and healthy
holiday season.
This year has been an unprecedented time for
families and businesses presenting challenges
for everyone. I remain hopeful vaccines will be
rapidly deployed allowing us to return to a
more "normal" life.
ENJOY OUR PARKS
AND TRAILS
During this difficult time, when many of our
activities are restricted, I want to encourage you
to enjoy the Village’s many Parks and Trails.
Whether you are enjoying the High Line
Canal, Village Greens Park, Westlands, Tommy
Davis or any of the many other parks, I believe
you will enjoy the peace and beauty of being outside in a safe
environment. There are 20 parks and 47 trail miles in the
Village for you to enjoy. A list of the parks and map of the
trails is available on the Village website. The link is:
PLEASE SUPPORT OUR
BUSINESS COMMUNITY
Now more than ever our restaurants need our help. As you
will read on page 16, many restaurants are working to keep
their doors open by offering creative menus including
takeout and many innovative options to facilitate outdoor
dining. Please help out by patronizing local establishments.
Their success helps not only the business but also our Village.
GREENWOOD VILLAGE
CARES PROGRAM
I want to share some good news about the Greenwood
Village Cares Program. In partnership with Arapahoe
County, the City Council directed our funding be used to
support the local business community. The first GV CARES
Small Business Grant Program was launched in July to help
the Greenwood Village business community respond to the
ongoing public health emergency. During Round 1, the City
awarded 223 applicants nearly $2 million in GV CARES
funds. A second round was launched in September. Round 2
awarded another 198 applicants over $2.6 million. These
funds have helped businesses reopen, provide PPE and
enhance their facility to meet health department
requirements.
HUNTINGTON ACRES AND
TOMMY DAVIS PARKS UPDATE
The construction of Huntington Acres Park and Tommy
Davis Park Master Plan improvements are nearly complete.
VILLAGE HERO
Congratulations to Tiffane Eschbach for being named a
Village Hero!
While visiting Cherry Creek State Park with her family,
Tiffane discovered a large bird wrapped in a fishing line on
the Reservoir’s shore. Tiffane contacted park officials and
waited patiently for assistance.
Unfortunately, a flock of crows
discovered the injured bird with
a different intent. Without
hesitation, Tiffane went to the
bird’s rescue! She scared off the
crows and on her third attempt
she was able to use her
sweatshirt to wrap and protect
the bird. Shortly, a Loon
enthusiast arrived in an orange
kayak. The Loon enthusiast had
been looking for the injured bird
for a several days. The good
news is the Loon is now
rehabilitating and is expected to
make a full recovery. Thank you
Tiffane for making a difference!
Best wishes for Wonderful
Holiday Season and a Happy
and Healthy New Year!
KEEP YOUR PACKAGES SAFE
FROM PORCH PIRATES
It’s that time of year when your holiday packages start arriving at
your front porch so here is a reminder about how to keep your
items safe from porch pirates.
• Get Permission to Ship All Your Packages to Work.
• Ask a Friend or Neighbor to Receive Your Packages for You.
• Set Up a Live Recording Video Camera Aimed at Your Porch.
• Schedule packages to be delivered when you or someone you
trust will definitely be there to pick it up.
• Consider placing a planted pot or decorative piece on your
porch that could hide a delivery.
• Consider getting a lock box installed near your front yard
door so that the delivery driver can put your package in a
secure location.
• Use a secure Amazon locker.
HOLIDAY SHOPPING
SAFETY TIPS
With the holidays upon us, the Village
would like everyone to have a safe
holiday season. Provided below are
some safety tips of which to be aware
and practice when doing your holiday
shopping.
• Be aware of your surroundings at
all times.
• When shopping, try to park in a
well-lit portion of the parking lot
or street.
• When you park your car, secure the
valuables that you have left in your
car by placing them in the trunk.
Do not leave cellular phones,
purses, CD cases, laptops, or any
other item of value in your parked
car where they can be seen. It is
better not to leave valuables in
the car at all. Make sure you close
your windows, lock your doors and
activate your car alarm, if you have
one.
• Do not leave purchased
merchandise in your parked car
where it can be seen. Put these
items in your trunk, or conceal
them inside the vehicle.
• Keep your purse on your body, not
left in a cart or in the car. If you
carry a small purse, carry it over
your shoulder under your coat.
Do not carry all of your credit cards
with you. Leave your unneeded
documents at home.
• Always be aware of the location of
your personal items. Know where
your purse, cellular phone, wallet,
packages, etc. are at all times. Do
not leave them unattended. Do not
overburden yourself with packages.
• When you are finished shopping,
have your keys in your hand before
reaching your car door. Take notice
of your surroundings. If you see
that someone is watching you and
that you may be a potential victim,
return to the store immediately, and
call security or the Police
Department at 9-1-1.
• Do whatever you need to keep safe,
even if it means asking a security
guard or a police officer to escort
you to your car. It is always better
to be safe than sorry.
If you have any questions or need
assistance, please call the Greenwood
Village Police Department at
303-773-2525 or call 9-1-1. GV
CREATING
HOLIDAY
MEMORIES
IN 2020
8 HOLIDAY SEASON
SAFETY BASICS
Certain things can increase
our risk of getting the virus
and we should avoid going
to places such as crowded
stores, parties, and being in
close contact with anyone
outside your household. Stay
virus-free by following the
simple steps to protect each
other:
1 Avoid in-person
gatherings.
2 Avoid unnecessary travel
and plan stay at home
activities.
3 Stay six feet apart
everywhere — indoors
and outdoors.
4 Stay home if around
someone who is ill or if
you have symptoms.
5 Wear a mask.
6 Wash hands often or use
hand sanitizer.
7 Avoid crowds by
ordering groceries and
gifts online.
8 Take extra care for those
at higher risk.
This reduces the chances of
recirculating the same air
and of spreading the virus.
Consider making a plan to
help everyone follow the
simple steps to protect each
other.
’TIS THE SEASON TO SPREAD
HOLIDAY SPIRIT WHILE
SOCIAL DISTANCING
Only socialize in-person with your own
household. Connect with your family and
friends virtually. When shopping, buying
online is a good way to avoid crowds when
holiday shopping. Be safe and share creative
ways to stay connected while celebrating
life together.
Other Fun Holiday Ideas
• Exchange traditional family recipes with
relatives. Make a new dish, take a
picture, and share your picture on email,
text, or on social media.
• Plan a no-steal or steal-friendly virtual
white elephant gift exchange party.
• Put up your favorite decorations and
share your pictures online.
• Have a virtual watch party to enjoy
parades, sporting events, and holiday
movies at home.
• Having a virtual dinner and share one
favorite recipe each with friends and
family.
• Have a virtual office or family ugly
sweater party and play a game like
holiday bingo.
• Ask family and friends to take part in
holiday charitable donations.
• Arrange a way to see each other virtually
while opening presents.
• Go for a walk in your neighborhood and
vote on your favorite decorations.
• Participate in a gratitude activity like
writing down what you are thankful for
and sharing with your friends and
family.
• Send heartfelt holiday greeting cards to
your family and friends.
• Create a photo memory book. GV
COVID-19 UPDATE
we’re all in this together!
COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF
PUBLIC HEALTH & ENVIRONMENT
MOVES ARAPAHOE COUNTY
(GREENWOOD VILLAGE)
TO RED LEVEL DUE TO
RISING COVID CASES
Effective Friday, November 20, Adams, Arapahoe
and Douglas Counties were moved by the Colorado
Department of Public Health and Environment
(CDPHE) to the new “Level Red: Severe Risk”
restrictions, as are all other counties in the metro
area including Denver, Boulder, Jefferson, and
Broomfield Counties. The order updates Level Red
to indicate counties where there is severe risk of
COVID-19 spreading rapidly, while allowing some
businesses to remain open at very limited capacity.
Major restrictions include:
• Indoor dining at restaurants is closed.
• Socially-distanced outdoor seating is allowed, as
are take-out, delivery, and drive-thru.
• Last call for alcohol in a restaurant is 8 p.m., and
bars that do not serve food are closed.
• All retail, including Critical retail, is subject to
the 50% occupancy limit, and strongly
encouraged to offer more curbside, take-out and
delivery options in order to reduce in-person
services to the minimum necessary.
• Libraries and animal grooming were added to the
list of critical businesses
• Personal gatherings with anyone outside of a
single household are prohibited
• All Indoor Events are prohibited, except Houses
of Worship and Life Rites may operate at 25% of
the posted occupancy limit indoors not to exceed
50 people excluding staff, whichever is less, per
room
• Office-based businesses are limited to no more
than 10% capacity and should be maximizing
work from home for all activities that can be
done remotely
• Gyms are limited to 10% occupancy or 10 people
per room, whichever is fewer
For more information or to review capacity
restrictions at each level, visit: https://covid19
COVID-19 DIAL REVISED
CDPHE released an updated public health order which updates Level
Red to indicate counties where there is severe risk of COVID-19
spreading rapidly, while allowing some businesses to remain open at
very limited capacity. A sixth level, Level Purple: Extreme Risk, for
counties where hospital capacity is at extreme risk of being overrun,
and most businesses and indoor services must be closed. The updated
dial levels went into effect on Friday, Nov. 20.
The new dial levels are:
Level Green – Protect Our Neighbors: for counties that are able to
locally contain surges. Most businesses are open with generous
capacity limits.
Level Blue – Caution: for counties with low transmission levels that
aren’t quite ready for Protect Our Neighbors. Capacity limits are more
permissive than yellow.
Level Yellow – Concern: the baseline level for counties with elevated
transmission levels but stable hospitalizations.
Level Orange – High Risk: for counties where numbers are going up
but not to the point where everything needs to be shut down. The
capacity limits are moderate.
Level Red – Severe Risk: for counties with high levels of
transmission, hospitalizations, and positivity rates. Most indoor
activities are prohibited or strictly limited, and outdoor activities are
encouraged as an alternative. The capacity limits are significant.
Level Purple – Extreme Risk: for counties where hospital capacity is
at extreme risk of being overrun. At this level, all businesses must
significantly curtail in person functions and people must stay at home
except for necessary activities.
For information about Colorado’s COVID-19 dial and county status,
visit the dial dashboard at covid19.colorado.gov, or refer to pages 12
and 13 for a summary of each level on the COVID-19 dial.
TESTED?
Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms like
cough, fever, or other respiratory
problems should call their healthcare
provider for guidance and separate
themselves from others.
Anyone who may have been exposed to
someone with COVID-19 should
quarantine for 14 days from the last date
they were exposed.
You should wait about seven days after
you think you were exposed before you
get tested to make sure there is enough
of the virus for the test to find COVID-
19 in your body. Even if you test
negative for COVID-19 before the end
of two weeks of quarantine, you should
still stay home for the full 14 days, in
case you get sick after your test.
Some building inspections may be conducted virtually if the
virtually in a manner that allows the inspector to verify
compliance with the approved permit and codes.
The following are types of inspections that can be conducted
virtually:
• Multifamily building inspections within interior corridors.
• Any commercial mechanical, plumbing, frame inspection.
• Residential furnace or water heater.
• Other interior inspections that, in the determination of
RECREATION REIMBURSEMENT DEADLINE FRIDAY, JANUARY 15, 2020
FOR ALL 2020 RECEIPTS
Wow, what a year! But some things are still the same, like the
Recreation Reimbursement submission deadline. We realize
that for some of you, things are extra hectic with revised
work schedules and children at home for school. Please take
some time out of your busy day to gather your 2020 activity
receipts to submit for reimbursement. We would hate for you
to miss out!
The deadline for submitting your 2020 recreation
reimbursement requests is January 15, 2020. They may be
dropped off in person by 5 p.m., postmarked by January 15
or emailed by 12 midnight. Please note there are no
exceptions to this deadline.
Good To Know:
• All activities paid for in 2020, including those taking
place in 2021, must be submitted as part of your 2020
reimbursement request. Exception: see annual
membership information below.
• Annual memberships (12 months paid in advance) at
qualifying recreation facilities that are paid in December
to take advantage of a membership sale for the following
calendar year must be applied to the following year (i.e. if
you pay in 2020 for all of 2021, that is applied to your
2021 reimbursement).
• To qualify for reimbursement an agency must be a public
recreation entity (parks and recreation district,
metropolitan district, municipal golf course) or a
nonprofit youth sports agency in the Denver Metro Area.
• 2020 golf receipts: staff realizes that there were a few
months when it was not possible to obtain the usual
receipts from golf courses. Under those circumstances, you
may submit credit card statements.
• Private entities such as Lifetime Fitness and for-profit
youth sports agencies are not reimbursable.
• All receipts must be itemized showing the name of the
organization, activity, date and the amount paid (see golf
exception above).
• Only the activity itself is reimbursable; fees for golf carts,
skate rentals, team jerseys, etc. are not reimbursable.
A form is included in the middle of this Newsletter for your
convenience. More detailed information can be found online
at www.greenwoodvillage.com/recreimbursement. Due to the
current COVID concerns, residents are encouraged to email
their forms and receipts to ptr@greenwoodvillage.com or
mail them to: City of Greenwood Village, Attn: Parks, Trails
and Recreation, 10001 East Costilla Avenue, Greenwood
Village, Colorado 80112.
OWN A PIECE OF THE
CURTIS CENTER FOR THE ARTS
The Curtis Center for the Arts, built in 1914, is the center of cultural activity in
Greenwood Village. The Center hosts art classes, rotating exhibits and
community events. Now you can own a small piece of this historic space. The
Center has repurposed
its advertising banners
and made them into
durable tote bags.
These artful tote bags
were constructed by
The Mile High
Workshop. The Mile
High WorkShop is an
employment and job
training program for
those facing barriers to
work. They assemble
and manufacture
products in
partnership with their
business partners to
create work
opportunities.
Making a great holiday gift, these bags are available to anyone that makes a
donation to the Greenwood Village Arts and Humanities Council of at least
$50. For more information call or email the Curtis Center for the Arts,
303-797-1779 or cstevens@greenwoodvillage.com. Hurry for best selection.
