PHAT 67
Interview with Tom Oliver
Car: 1967 Chevelle Malibu
Car name: “PHAT 67”
Models: Kylee Janay, Tiara Marie & Endia Sears
This photoshoot was done in Riverside Missouri at a waterfall at the corner of NW
Platte Dr and NW Valley Ln. This beautiful waterfall and pond is a perfect spot for any
photoshoot. Special thanks to the City of Riverside for allowing us to do the photoshoot!
Tom Oliver is the proud owner of this 1967 Chevelle Malibu. He aquired the Chevelle
in 2012 from a seller in Nebraska. Tom had shown interest in the Chevelle with the seller
and they negotiated for a short time and came to an agreement of a complete and even
swap of cars. Tom had a 1965 Lemans that he had built over the years and coverted it
to a GTO. The seller of the Chevelle was definitely interested in obtaining the GTO so the
deal was made. He ended up trailering the Chevelle back to Missouri from Nebraska
with excitement of building it up to where he felt it needed to be. Tom is still doing modifications
to the Chevelle Malibu, he feels that the PHAT 67 gets a monthly allowance just
like the car is his child.
Tom grew up around cars, like most young men do. His relationship with his brother
was spent mostly with both of them working on cars together as they grew up. Tom’s
brother had a 1964 GTO that they worked on all the time. He was very young when he
started working on cars and driving them around. All of those factors contribute to the
love that Tom has for building cars and going to car shows and cruises. He enjoys going
to the events to spend time with his friends and other car enthusiasts. Also reminiscing
with the older generation about the cars that they once owned when they were young.
PLAIN & SIMPLE
Interview with Jason Thompson
Car: 1967 Chevy II Nova
Cars name: “PLAIN & SIMPLE”
Models: Star & Lovena
This photoshoot was done in the Crossroads District of Kansas City. There are many
locations there that make ideal backdrops for shooting cars. We chose a few locations
towards the East side.
Jason Thompson is the proud owner of this 1967 Chevy II Nova. Jason has always
loved the Chevy Nova’s,body style. He was 20 years old when he got his first one. It was
a 1966 and he had it stored in his cousin’s barn. Unfortunately his cousin’s barn ended
up burning down with the Nova in it. Jason ended up purchasing his second Nova and
was very disappointed, because of all of the body work that it needed. He never stopped
looking for the right Nova that he would have as his own.
Back in 2010 Jason was at a swap meet in the Kansas City area when he came
across a 1967 Chevy II Nova that was for sale. Jason spoke to the owner and made a
deal. He had given the owner of the Nova $100 dollars to hold the car so he could run
to the bank to get the rest of the money for the purchase. When Jason returned to the
swap meet from the bank the owner of the Nova was trying to sell the Nova to someone
else. Jason bought the car and started the rebuild the same year.
When Jason started doing the restoration of the car, he noticed that someone else
had tried to do the restoration and he wasn’t happy with the work. Jason took the Nova
completely apart, he built a rotisserie for the car and flipped it upside down to redo all
of the original suspension and restore the car from bottom to top. The Nova came from
California, so it took Jason about 4 years of non-stop work to complete. Jason did the
restoration by himself.
“GOBLIN”
Interview with Mitchell Shepard
Car: 1964 AC Cobra Coupe
Cars name: “GOBLIN”
Model: Al’Eysha
This photoshoot was at Ameristar Casino and the Old Sams Town Casino location
in Kansas City Missouri during the time of the 2020 Covid Pandemic. We had plenty of
room for the angles we would need to bring out all of the curves on this Bad Ass Custom
Ride!
Mitchell Shepard is the proud owner of this custom 1964 AC Cobra Coupe. The Cobras
body originated from a company called Premier. Which was originally built for use
in SCCA Racing. In the process of making the body one of the partners became sick so
they ended up securing the body to the ceiling, which is where it hung there for about 10
years. One of Mitchell’s friends worked for Premier at the time when the owner came in
one day and requested that the Cobra shell be taken down from the ceiling and thron
into the dumpster. Mitchell’s friend had a conversation with the owner and let him know
that his son would like to have the shell. The owner told him to get it that day or it would
be thrown away. The shell had sat in Mitchell’s friends basement for about 3 years when
his friend had called him to see if he wanted it. They made a deal and Mitchell got the
shell in 2007.
Back in 2008 Mitchell’s son was home on a Military 30 day leave when he surprised
his dad with an envelope, which had a list of what he had purchased for his dad to start
the build of the Cobra. His son had purchased all of the materials needed for the frame,
chassis and roll cage. His son purchased these materials before he was to report back to
duty. That is when Mitchell started working on the build of this bad ass AC Cobra.
So for the past 12 years Mitchell has put a lot of love and many hours of building this
car from just the shell that was almost thrown away.
Mitchell would like to add, a special thank you to a dear friend and spectacular human
being for all that he had done in his life time... Rick Foster..Rest in Peace..never
forgotten!
BIPOLAR
Interview with Rick Hensley
Car: 1951 GMC 3100
Car name: “BiPoLar”
Models: Endia Sears, Kylee Janay & Tiara Marie
We wanted to do a different kind of photoshoot for this truck. We thought the actual
shop that the truck was built in was a really good spot. The location is in Gladstone and
is Mitchell Shepard and Rick Foster’s (RIP) shop. Special thank you for allowing us to do
the photoshoot there!
Rick Hensley is the proud owner of this 1951 GMC 3100. He has always wanted to do a
rebuild or a restoration on an older truck. He wanted it to be one that was from the 50’s
because he really liked the body style of those years of production.
Rick purchased this 1951 GMC 3100 truck back in 2015. A friend of one of Rick’s
friends came across the GMC truck for sale in Calhoun Missouri and knew Rick was
looking to build one, so he passed on the information about the truck. Rick contacted the
owner of the GMC truck and asked him to send him some pictures of it. When Rick saw
the pictures of the truck he knew that he wanted to build that truck. Rick and his girlfriend
Lana headed out the next morning to go check the GMC truck out in person, they
pulled a trailer with them just in case. When they arrived at the location where the truck
was, they walked to a barn where the owner had kept the truck stored in over the years.
Rick bought the truck on the spot and trailered it back to his house the same day. He
was very excited to have aquired this truck and started working on the rebuild of it. The
rebuild took about 18 months for them to complete. Rick had to sell a different car for
him to be able to get this GMC 3100 truck.
GROUCHY BOB
Interview with Jaramie Young & Karina Young
Car: 1967 Dodge Dart
Car name: “GROUCHY BOB”
Model: Karina Young
This photoshoot was done at Quality Hill of Kansas City. We made sure to get some
of the city views and the statue of Lewis and Clark in the photos.
Jaramie and Karina Young are the proud owners of this 1967 Dodge Dart that has
been modified to preform as a pro street hot rod.
Jaramie grew up around a father that loved racing. Every weekend as a kid, Jaramie
and his dad were at the track in Havanna Illinois. To this day he still remembers the huge
giant wheel stands that his father would do with his car, going about 100 to 200 feet.
His day was made when his dad did those with the car. Jaramie never left his dad’s
side when they were at the track. When his dad was making passes he was right there
watching in a spot as close as he could be. Jaramie has had several different Chevrolet
turbo cars, but he always wanted a Mopar and one with the certain body style like the
Dodge Dart. He knew how expensive Mopar was, especially when it came to the Hemi
motors. Jaramie had to sell his other race car so they could move to Missouri.
It was back in 2009 when Jaramie was told about this specific Dodge Dart from a
friend. The Dodge Dart was sitting in a field in Springfield Missouri and had been there
since 1979, it had 92,000 original miles on it when he purchased the Dart from the original
owners grandson. The grandson brought Jaramie the Dart a week before his first son
was born, during a huge snow storm. Jaramie has had four different engines in this car.
His wife Karina told him not to put another engine in it unless it was the engine that he
really wanted for the car. They got the 1967 Dodge Dart up and running in July 2020.
