I am extremely thankfulfor and proud of our community. Now is thetime to give more than ever. So many needsare exposed when something like this happensthat you may not have seen otherwise.When we have the burden of knowing thatthere is a need, then we have the responsibilityto act.“We are in it to make a difference,” Kimstresses. “Some years are smooth sailing, andother years you really have to get to work andwrite a lot more checks. That is okay becausethat is why we are here.”They presented 16 $3,000 scholarshipsthis spring to local graduating seniors eventhough the kids were not in school. Overall, theFoundation has presented scholarships to 146students, totaling over half a million dollars.The Foundation has donated over $1.2million dollars through its grant programs.Approximately half are individual grants usedto support families in need by handling necessaryexpenses like rent or mortgage payments,utilities, and medical bills. The otherhalf are grants to other organizations thatshare the Foundation’s mission of servingchildren and families in need.They partner with the local Publix storesfor their Legends Program to present almost4,000 certificates each fall to local elementaryschool children who are specifically chosen bytheir teachers and principals. Each child thenreceives a food basket that feeds 10 to 12 peoplefor a Thanksgiving meal.In the past they have hosted the childrenat the Auburn Arena with Aubie, cheerleadersand the band. They emphasize to the childrenhow important they are and how proud everyoneis of them for being a “legendary” kid.While the certificates and food baskets aregoing to be given this year, they may not beable to have the celebration because of Covid-19. “Our goal is to not only provide food, but toempower the kids to know that they are greatkids and deserve to be celebrated,” says Kim.“They are so proud to do this for their family.”At Christmas time, they invite around 150children and their families to Target to “Shopwith Santa”. Each child receives a $100 dollargift card and shops at Target for whateverthey want. They have shopped with over 750children.“We are committed to doing our Thanksgivingand Christmas programs this year even if theymay look differently,” she says. “There are likelymore needs than ever before. Now is not thetime to push pause.“We want people to understand what wedo,” Kim states. “I would love for more peopleto get involved and for people to knowthat they can recommend families to us forassistance.“We are close to $2 million dollars in giftsthrough our programs. We are working harderthan we ever have. If you are going to be a nonprofitand give back, now is the time to do it.”The Foundation does not have any overhead.Jenny Hall is the Executive Director andonly employee, and the Hudson’s donate hersalary. One hundred percent of donationsgoes to helping families.“I remember Tim and I talking years agoabout where we were going to live the rest ofour lives,” says Kim. “It took about two minutesto figure out that we wanted it to beAuburn. It has been very fulfilling to bring theFoundation here and serve the communitythat has given so much to us.“We always want our Foundation to be trulyimpactful, meeting real needs,” Kim states.“We are fully committed to getting out thereand actively serving our community.
