Milestones of Achievement

The business that blossomed and matured as detectamet, was founded in 2003 and was based on the extensive

experience of its founder Sean Smith.

His first step along the path of his career was in the food processing industry that led him into engineering for

food production and major construction and civil engineering.

“My work in the building and servicing of food processing lines opened my eyes to the needs for a broad range

of equipment, and parts made from detectable plastics” Sean explained.

“The rest is a history of growth and achievement over the past 15 years that has reached and passed many

Detectamet’s pens are ergonomically designed for long

Our cryo pens can write in extreme low temperatures

down to -20 c (-4 f) in areas such as cold stores.

The 5m/16ft measure is enclosed in a resilient plastic case

that is both metal and X-ray detectable.

There are two types of tape. The basic tape is made from

The Detectamet range of professional knives combines fully hardened and tempered stainless steel blades with the best

detectable plastic handles to provide the safest and most ergonomically efficient tools.

Hygiene is a key factor and the detectable polymer handles are

insert moulded to the blades to avoid cracks/voids

preventing the build-up of contaminants. They can be sterilised

regularly at very high temperatures.

The detectable handles have been tested to affirm their compliance

with current legislation (EU 1935/2004) regarding the safe contact

with food.

All products come with a certificate of conformity and migration test

reports are available.

Cutting Edge Choice

Detectamet Plain Edge Knives.

The traditional Plain Edge blade ensures a fine, durable long lasting edge and is used extensively in the meat processing

industry for example where a long lasting fine edge is vital to ensure that maximum yields are achieved.

Detectamet Scallop Edge Knives.

A series of small scallops are ground alternately on each side of the blade edge by hand with great precision.

Thus each knife performs perfectly for the longest possible time. The scallops also allow air to enter between the blade

and the cut product, letting the cut slice to fall away from the knife and not stick to it.

Hygiene / Handles & Blades

Our blades are made in the UK from fully hardened and tempered stainless steel and are easy to clean. Knives only

require to be steeled occasionally in the normal way to retain a perfect cutting edge.

Our detectable handles are insert molded from polypropylene copolymer to withstand rigorous sterilizing and dishwasher

use and do not present the potential health hazards that are frequently associated with other knives.

Tested to assess compliance with the current EU food legislation (EN) 1935/2004 on materials and articles intended to

come into contact with food and repealing directives. All products come with a certificate of conformity.
