12 The Tomorrows Children’s Fund at the medical center receives a $10,400 DONATION<br />

from a cancer survivor and his family.<br />

19 The Dave Winfield Nutrition center hosts group weight management programs<br />

for youngsters ages eight to 13. The program, “THE BODY SHOP,” <strong>of</strong>fers a multidisciplinary<br />

team <strong>of</strong> healthcare pr<strong>of</strong>essionals that work with children and parents to achieve better self-<br />

esteem and weight management.<br />

19 The Dave Winfield Nutrition <strong>Center</strong> continues its Adult Group Weight Management<br />

Program, “THINKING THIN.” The program is taught by healthcare pr<strong>of</strong>essionals and is designed<br />

to help adults develop an overall healthier lifestyle through balanced eating, exploring<br />

exercise options, and mastering eating behaviors.<br />

20 The medical center stresses the importance <strong>of</strong> OSTEOPOROSIS AWARENESS and<br />

prevention. Osteoporosis is a disease that affects 25 million Americans, reducing their bone<br />

density and creating an increase risk <strong>of</strong> fracture.


20 The medical center hosts representatives from ORBIS MEDICAL AND HEALTHCARE<br />

companies and SIEMENS NETHERLANDS who want to continue learning about the medical<br />

center’s patient-centered care, architectural design, and affiliation with Planetree.<br />

9 The medical center celebrates Eric Somberg, M.D., an attending physician in The<br />

Cardiac Surgery Section <strong>of</strong> The Department <strong>of</strong> Surgery at the medical center, who was listed<br />

as the only physician in New Jersey to perform more than 100 coronary artery bypass graft<br />

surgeries with a risk-adjusted PATIENT MORTALITY RATE OF 0.00 PERCENT in 2000, according<br />

to The New Jersey Department <strong>of</strong> Health and Senior Services’ most recent publication,<br />

10 The medical center promotes CERVICAL CANCER PREVENTION by reminding women<br />

to see their healthcare providers annually for a Pap test. Cervical cancer is nearly 100<br />

percent curable when detected in its early stages, though thousands <strong>of</strong> women die each<br />

year from the disease, <strong>of</strong>ten because it is discovered too late. A Pap test is the only way to<br />

detect the disease in its early stages, as there are no visible symptoms.<br />

10 One <strong>of</strong> the world’s leading global rating agencies, FITCH RATINGS, upgrades HUMC<br />

revenue bond rating from “A-” to “A.” signaling to the nation’s financial markets, investors,<br />

as well as area consumers, the financial stability, strong operating performance, and<br />
