¡ Die dunkle Jahreszeit kann
aufs Gemüt schlagen. Dieses
Jahr wird es besonders hart.
Der Impfstoff ist schon
bestellt, aber es kann Monate
dauern, bis wir uns wieder frei
bewegen.
¡ Sie können aber sofort für
Aufmunterung sorgen. Sie
können virtuell unter
Menschen gehen und sich
austauschen. Sie können etwas
lernen, zum Beispiel über
Kunst oder Musik. Sie können
endlich Ihre Geschichte
aufschrieben oder Zeichnen
lernen und Sie können singen.
¡ Blättern Sie weiter und
entdecken Sie meine
Lockdown-Angebote Januar
bis März. Sie sind ein
bescheidener aber vom Herzen
kommender Beitrag zum
zusammen Durchhalten.
¡ The dark winter months can be
challenging. This year will be
particularly hard for many of us.
The vaccine is on its way, but it will
still be weeks or months before we
can safely venture outside.
¡ But you can do something to cheer
yourself up right now. You can
meet people and exchange ideas
and stories online. You can relax,
and you can learn stuff, for
instance about art or classical
music. Or what about finally
writing down the story of your life
or learning to draw? And you can
sing.

¡ Here are my lockdown offerings
for January to March. They are a
modest but heartfelt contribution
to getting through this together.

immer 2021 bringen mag.
14. Rufen Sie mich an, wenn Sie überhaupt

Course no. 1 The soundtrack
of our lives – talking about
our favourite songs
Does a melody ever bring a tear to your eyes? Do
songs sometimes give you the chills? Have you ever
felt lifted up by a piece of music when you were
down? The answer to these questions is probably yes.
Music can bring about emotional and even physical
responses in all of us. It can relax us. It can take us
back in time. It can impact us in more ways than we
are aware of.
8
In this class we’ll examine music that has formed the
soundtrack to our lives. We’ll listen to our favourite
songs, talk about the lyrics and maybe even sing
along, all from the comfort of our own homes. You’ll
get to know new artists and songs and gain a deeper
understanding of the ones you already enjoy
listening to.
6 x Tuesday 17:00 – 18:30 h
12 January – 16 February 2021
5 – 8 persons
This class is full. It will be
repeated soon
9
Course no. 2 What is art
and how do I talk about it?
You know when you’re walking around an art
gallery and you’re not sure what to say about an
exhibit? You can, of course, simply say “I like that”
or “What a load of nonsense”. But why stop there?
In this 6-week class, we’ll take a close look at various works
of European and American art from the 15th to the 21st
century. You’ll learn how to talk about colour, structure,
composition and also say why you like or don’t like a
particular work.
You’ll get plenty of practice using these expressions as we
take virtual tours through some of the world’s great art
galleries. Join me as we as look at saints, sharks and
sunsets and make our way from the golden age to the
golden toilet.
6 x Tuesday 18:45 – 20:15 h
12 January – 16 February 2021
5 – 8 persons
AUSGEBUCHT
Course no. 3 Coffee Morning
10
You’ve heard about afternoon tea, but there’s also
something called a Coffee Morning. This is a social event
where people get together to chat, drink coffee and eat cake.
You’ll have to bring your own coffee and cake, but I will
provide you with plenty of material for our chat.
We’ll start with some small talk. You’ll practice keeping a
conversation going, showing interest, and (just as
important) ending a chat.
After the small talk we’ll go a bit deeper and talk about social
and moral issues, food and drink, films and entertainment,
our so-called “world leaders”, or whatever else takes our
fancy.
At the end of each session I’ll go through any language issues
that need attention – grammar, vocabulary, style,
pronunciation and so on. So as well as having a good chat
about the world in general and meeting interesting people,
you’ll also bring your conversational skills up to the next
level. I’m looking forward to meeting you.
6 x Wednesday 10:30 – 12:00 h
13 January – 17 February 2021
5 – 7 persons
Course no. 4 Bach to
Beethoven and beyond –
Understanding classical music
11
Someone once said that music is what feelings sound like.
How true! Music can make us joyful or sad; it can give us
goose bumps or bore us to death; it can make us thoughtful or
feel as if we don’t have a care in the world.
In this course we’ll listen to and talk about our favourite pieces
of classical music and try to understand the mystery and
beauty behind some of the most famous works of Western
culture. This will include a look at how classical music
developed from Bach to Beethoven and beyond.
Theory will be kept to a minimum. Instead, the main focus will
be on listening and sharing ideas. By the end of this short
course you will have gained a lot of knowledge and be able to
express yourself more beautifully when you talk about
classical music. We will also have done something for our
wellbeing and prepared ourselves for the weeks and months
ahead, whatever they may bring! Sign up now and join me
from the comfort of your own home for this new and unique
online music appreciation class.
6 x Wednesday 17:15 – 18:45 h
13 January – 17 February 2021
5 – 8 persons
Course no. 5 Your Story – an
introduction to Creative Writing
12
Do you have an interesting or important story you’d like to
share with others? Did something really funny, strange or
exciting once happen to you? Or maybe you want your life
story to be passed on to later generations? If you can
answer yes to any of these questions, then this is the course
for you.
In this class you’ll learn how to write well and creatively
using your own life as a basis. We’ll try out different
techniques, and do fun exercises to get our creativity
flowing. We’ll also look at some British and American
autobiographies and talk about why they are so good.
You don’t need any creative writing experience in this
class, and it doesn’t matter if your English isn’t perfect.
What you will need are two to three hours a week outside
of class to read or write yourself, and you’ll need to be
willing to share at least some of your work with others. So
come along and start expressing yourself.
6 x Friday 10:30 – 12:00 h
22 January – 26 February 2021
5 – 8 persons
Course no. 6 Learn how to draw
step by step
13
Learning to draw is easier than you think. You just need
some basic supplies (paper and pencils), time and patience
plus a few good exercises. This six-week compact course
will get you started. Step by step and with clear guidance,
you will develop an eye for shape, depth and proportion
and you’ll soon see results.
By the way, drawing isn’t just fun, it’s also a great way to
reduce stress and it can help to increase your emotional
intelligence. So get started now.
