Discussion on
departmental climate
survey
Invited Dr. Darlene Saporu, assistant Dean for D&I and asked to share
her experience on designing one such survey for CS department. Here
are the major issues discussed:
- Timeline: estimated time from creation of the survey to
analysis of data about 4 months
- Importance of definining goals: quantitative VS qualitative
survey.
- Issue of confidentiality of data: raw data should not be handled
by people in the department
- Issue of reporting data from small groups (e.g. minorities)
- Clarify definition of “climate”
- Be quick and transparent in reporting survey results
