This exhibition is a joyous convergence
of colour and light, an antidote to the
increasing monochrome of contemporary
Scott Chaseling has carefully composed this interactive environment
that challenges us to discover the potential of colour and how it
makes us feel. Here colour is used to create the illusion of volume,
movement, and patterns by taking full advantage of the transparent
qualities of glass as a material.
The play of light and shadow is made from fields of repetitive forms
which shift, change, and evolve only through physically experiencing
it in person. It poses the question can colour become material in its
own right?
Chaseling approaches his sculptural practice by observing and
experiencing a series of connections, occurrences and interactions
with people and places. He investigates how experience can be
communicated through form. By undertaking and documenting
extreme journeys on foot, often walking across entire countries, or
following well-trodden pilgrimages, Chaseling has developed a
way to translate memories into tiny maquettes and drawings then
refining them into large-scale sculptures.
The reflected light reveals references to the traditional sense of
spirituality found within the architecture of grand palaces, mosques
or cathedrals. However, the works are more a reference to the sense
of wonderment than the act of worship itself. The Redemption of
Colour provides a state of pure happiness achieved through the
simplicity of light and form which leaves us craving a more colourful
existence.
