SWAROVSKI GINZA

TOKYO 2008 TOKUJIN YOSHIOKA DESIGN

Many world-famous boutiques line Ginza’s Central

Avenue with the first flagship store for Swarovski,

opening in 2008. Swarovski revised the crystal jewelry

image of the company and will integrate a new concept,

“Crystal Forest” into its 1,300 boutiques worldwide.

The lighting design for the 256 Ginza boutique,

emphasized keywords such as, sparkle, translucency,

and rhythm of light.

シルク・ドゥ・ソレイユ シアター 東 京

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL THEATRE TOKYO

CHIBA 2008 ORIENTAL LAND / TAKENAKA CORPORATION

In one corner of the Tokyo Disney Resort, a permanent stage and home for the Cirque du Soleil has opened.

Twenty spotlights with color filters are aimed at the geometrically shaped exterior of the theatre. Along the

entrance slope, linear LED and color shadowing create an artistic approach to amuse guests as anticipation

and lighting effects gradually increase. In the vaulted entrance lobby, the curtain wall leans outward at 15

degrees and a rhythm of light and shadow along this plane help to create a space of high quality.

W 香 港

W HONG KONG

HONG KONG 2008 SUN HUNG KAI PROPERTIES /

WONG & OUYANG / GLAMOROUS

This luxury hotel is part of a new Kowloon Station complex.

Through the lower glass façade, the W logo sparkles, with

Spa Brand, Bliss, occupying the top tower floors, also equip

with an outdoor pool. Inside and out, hotel lighting continually

changes for a unique experience. However, aiming for a

sophisticated approach, the hotel is distinct in the “Hong

Kong Million Dollar Nightscape”.

HILTON NISEKO VILLAGE

HOKKAIDO 2008 NIPPON HILTON / HASHIMOTO YUKIO DESIGN STUDIO / TANSEISHA

The former Niseko Higashiyama Prince Hotel, located near one of the world’s leading powder snow resorts,

Niseko, reopened in July 2008 as the Hilton Niseko Village. In the lobby, Japan’s largest suspended

fireplace hangs, creating an atmosphere of luxury. Columns of light and shadow are centered around the

fireplace to create pockets of relaxing space around the fireplace and add dimension to the entire

atmosphere.

COMMEMORATING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RECONSTRUCTION

OF MEIJI JINGU [AKARIUM]

TOKYO 2008

COMMEMORATING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RESTORATION OF MEIJI JINGU COMMITTEE

There is still dark beauty in Tokyo. To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Meiji Jingu Reconstruction,

approaches and shrine buildings were illuminated in an artistic display of light. We based our design concept

on the minimal use of light for an environment-friendly approach. We combined 21-century LEDs and

ancient candlelight to achieve a progressive lighting environment. 150,000 visitors came to visit the shrine,

enjoying light and darkness.

ペラナカン ミュージアム

PERANAKAN MUSEUM

SINGAPORE 2008 NATIONAL HERITAGE BOARD /

ASIAN CIVILISATIONS MUSEUM / W Architects

This museum aims to whisk visitors away to the

Peranakan Era, complete with the warmth of that

lifestyle. Gallery space allows visitors to walk from room

to room in a period-style house while lighting creates a

lived-in feeling and reflects natural changes in light.

Motion sensors are used to create intentional changes

in the level of brightness and for preservation of fine art.

AKITA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY,

LIBRARY

AKITA 2008 ENVIRONMENT DESIGN INSTITUTE

The ceiling in the semicircle-shaped Great Hall of the

24-hour Library Building is finished in Akita Cedar.

The timber ceiling is beautifully lit and ambient light

from the top of bookshelves creates an overall warm

atmosphere. Also, bookshelf lighting and task lighting

are further adjustable to give visitors the appropriate

amount of light for a comfortable and economical

lighting plan.

アレクサンドラ アーチ, シンガポール

ALEXANDRA ARCH, SINGAPORE

SINGAPORE 2008 URBAN REDEVELOPMENT

AUTHORITY / LOOK ARCHITECTS

A folded-leaf served as inspiration for the pedestrian

bridge in a green lung of the city. The lighting highlights

the structure and shape, while choosing to stay discreet

at the same time. Colour changing LED lights that are

also long life sources create movement of lights every

few minutes. Passers-by remain spellbound by the

playfulness of the design.

香 港 インターナショナル コマースセンター

INTERNATIONAL COMMERCE CENTRE AT UNION SQUARE

HONG KONG 2008 SUN HUNG KAI PROPERTIES / KOHN PEDERSEN FOX ASSOCIATES /

WONG & OUYANG / BENOY ARCHITECTS

LPA collaborated to design the lighting for the office lobby, retail zone connection area, and the circulation

areas surrounding the tower podium of the new 484 meter, 118 floor, International Commerce Centre (ICC),

built in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon. We used the dynamic features of the office lobby to emphasis the

beauty and function of this space. In the areas of circulation we created sharpness and contrast for a

glamorous, but fun visual experience.

カルティエ 銀 座 2 丁 目 ブティック

クリスマスファサード

BOUTIQUE CARTIER GINZA 2CHOME,

CHRISTMAS FAÇADE LIGHTING

TOKYO 2008 RICHEMONT JAPAN CARTIER

The Cartier Christmas illumination creates a feeling of

excitement in the midst of beauty, with many surprises

to put the finishing touches on this new lighting scheme.

Several different materials were used to create layers

and a feeling of depth along the façade. Simulated

champagne bubbles create an elegant and glamorous

exterior for this Ginza boutique.

ザ コスモポリタン

THE COSMOPOLITAN

SINGAPORE 2008 BELGRAVIA PROPERTIES / ARCHITECTS 61 / ICN DESIGN INTERNATIONAL

Located in a highly visible prime district of Singapore, The Cosmopolitan is characterised by two 36 floor

residential towers perched on very tall slender columns. The uplighting of the columns creates a magical

floating effect, for a luminous landmark in the district. Residents and visitors are welcomed by subtle

moonlight shining from the tower top.

パンパシフィック サービス アパートメント

PAN PACIFIC SERVICE APARTMENT

SINGAPORE 2008 UOL GROUP /

CPG CONSULTANTS

A futuristic building in the heart of the commercial

centre, these service apartments exhibit duality in

lighting - colour changing facades to complement the

retail-centric city centre. Softly muted warm light creates

a very comfortable and relaxing space for its guests.

YODOYABASHI & OHEBASHI BRIDGE

ILLUMINATION

OSAKA 2008 MIDO-SUJI AVENUE PEDESTRIAN

SPACE REVIEW COMMITTEE

These two bridges are located on Osaka’s main avenue,

Midosuji, both with a solid, stately design. Projection

spotlights illuminate the lateral surface of each bridge

so any unnecessary light is eliminated and the length

and form of the bridge appear to float above the water.

The reflection on the water creates a relaxing shimmer.

ザ シービュー

THE SEA VIEW

SINGAPORE 2008 MER VUE DEVELOPMENTS / RSP ARCHITECTS PLANNERS & ENGINEERS /

SITETECTONIX

The Sea view is a 6-tower condominium located on the picturesque East Coast of Singapore. The solidity of

the towers is counter-balanced by the indirectly lit curves of the landscape and pool areas. A neo-classical

bungalow built in the early 1900s was readapted as a clubhouse. Lighting gives it a special focus in the midst

of the contemporary architecture and lushly lit tropical landscape.

ザ ビューフォート オン ナッシム

THE BEAUFORT ON NASSIM

SINGAPORE 2008 HKR /

RSP ARCHITECTS PLANNERS & ENGINEERS

A compact residential enclave in one of the most

sought after addresses of Singapore, the lighting

attempts to emphasize the landscape as the focal

element. The softly lit swimming pool in the centre is

framed by bright tree uplights and these features create

interest in both the eye level view as well as the view

from the residents’ balcony areas.

CRESCENT SHIN-KAWASAKI EXE

KANAGAWA 2008 MORIMOTO /

PLANTEC ARCHITECTS / ATELIER HAIKEIKEIKAKU

From the landscape to the entrance, the lighting

environment of this condominium provides welcoming

light in a sequential manner along the main paths. In

the lounge, 2 daytime scenes and 3 nighttime scenes,

create bold changes in the area, starting with a brisk

morning scene and ending with a chic, but comfortable

midnight scene.

CRESCENT TSUJIDO

KANAGAWA 2008 MORIMOTO / EDWARD SUZUKI ASSOCIATES

Horizontal louvers, running east and west, are a connecting element for this condominium. On each side of the louvers

stand 6m tall columns of light. Different finishes used on the inside and outside louver planes create different visual

effects during the day and night. The entrance interior is monotone, but stylish with simple lighting effects.

アールブラン 千 鳥 町

ARTBLANC CHIDORICHO

TOKYO 2008 MORIMOTO / K/O DESIGN STUDIO

Through the cool, color-tone entrance of granite stone, warm light spills out from the lounge and a welcoming graphic

wall. Similar to a hotel atmosphere, the indoor hallway is lit with indirect lighting and diffused light from large windows

along the approach to each condominium.

クレッセント 横 濱 シーサイド

CRESCENT YOKOHAMA SEASIDE

KANAGAWA 2008 MORIMOTO / ATELIER NANJO

The exterior of this condominium conveys the feeling

of a resort, while the vaulted entrance hall is filled with

soft light. Luminous walls enclose the double-floor

height entrance hall for a bright and simple atmosphere.

Tucked under the vaulted ceiling is an “underwater”

lounge. Wavy patterns etched into a plate-glass wall

are up lit with continual lighting changes throughout

the day.

アイランドタワー スカイクラブ

ISLAND TOWER SKY CLUB

FUKUOKA 2008 SHINEI JYUTAKU / TAKENAKA

CORPORATION, AND TUKASA DESIGN OFFICE

JOINT VENTURE / SUPER POTATO

This condominium is a part of the new development along

the bay, with its main feature, Sky Club, in the center.

Simulated moonlight and linear lighting along the building

crown are landmarks to welcome residents home. In the

entrance lobby, indirect lighting highlights the ceiling

latticework with ripple effects to emphasis artwork. Day

and night are both expressed differently, but the result is a

tranquil atmosphere.

クレッセント 武 蔵 中 原 Ⅳ

CRESCENT MUSASHINAKAHARA Ⅳ

KANAGAWA 2008 MORIMOTO / IKDS

Lighting emphasizes the sharpness of the large overhang with softer light leading residents inside along a specially

designed wall. In this quiet residential area this design serves a welcoming symbol for those returning home.

S&B 食 品 本 社 ビル

S&B FOODS INC. HEADQUARTERS

TOKYO 2008 YUTAKA SAITO ARCHITECTS /

KANKYO KOBO ARCHITECTS

The design for the new headquarters’ exterior is relatively

simple and clean-cut, but compared to the surrounding

chaotic environment it stands out conspicuously. Cool color

lighting along the facade gives the entire building a sense

of freshness and cleanliness, while dynamically highlighting

the architectural form to appeal to the surrounding cityscape.

パークコート 虎 ノ 門 愛 宕 タワー

PARK COURT TORANOMON ATAGO TOWER

TOKYO 2008 MITSUI FUDOSAN RESIDENTIAL / SHIMIZU CORPORATION / FIELD FOUR DESIGN OFFICE

The architectural and interior design keyword for this luxury tower condominium is “Japan Premium.” Lanterns in the

entrance glow softly, with a shoji-like luminous wall and feature lighting for a wall fountain to complete this refined

Japanese lighting experience.

ナッシムパークレジデンス, ショーフラット

NASSIM PARK RESIDENCES SHOWFLAT

SINGAPORE 2008 UOL GROUP / KHENG LEONG CO /

ORIX CORPORATION / SCDA / CHRISTIAN LIAIGRE /

MASUNO SHUNMYO + JAPAN LANDSCAPE CONSULTANTS

Still under construction, the showflat for this luxury

condominium, was completed in 2008. LPA’s lighting design

concept for the condominium, “gradation” was condensed,

revealing the essence of the original design by a sensitive

arrangement of light. This promotion space refleets a

comfortable, but classy living atmosphere.

THE ST. REGIS SINGAPORE / ST. REGIS RESIDENCES SINGAPORE

SINGAPORE 2008 CITY DEVELOPMENT LIMITED / WATG /

RSP ARCHITECTS PLANNERS & ENGINEERS / WILSON & ASSOCIATES / CICADA / MKPL

The St. Regis is a luxury hotel and apartment on Tanglin Road. While the façade and exterior are modern

style architecture, the interior is of a classic motif. In the hotel, we used glareless, architectural lighting to

emphasis the charm of the numerous chandeliers. In the center of the complex, luminous tiles in a grid

pattern at the bottom of the apartment pool add a shimmer to the waterscape.
