Healthcare & Research –
Cambridge Biomedical Campus
Cambridge has an immense scientific
heritage; not only was it home to Isaac
Newton but, today, it is at the centre of the
high-technology region known as Silicon
Fen and is also home to the Cambridge
Biomedical Campus. It is set to become one
of the leading biomedical centres in the
world by 2020.
Great Kneighton is serviced by Addenbrookes
Hospital which provides excellent healthcare
and is regarded as a flagship NHS facility
in the UK. In addition, Papworth Hospital,
one of the largest specialist cardiothoracic
hospitals in Europe including the country’s
main heart and lung transplant centre, is due
to relocate to Cambridge Biomedical Campus
in April 2018.
Investment opportunity
Cambridge has increasingly become
regarded as one of the hotspots for
investment property. World famous for
its beauty and as a centre for academic
excellence, Cambridge is considered an
attractive to place to work and live. As a
city Cambridge attracts professionals from
education, healthcare, bio technology and
IT sectors with increasingly high levels of
both established and start up companies
choosing Cambridge for their businesses.
Prime development of both new and existing
offices for international companies such
as AstraZeneca; a global pharmaceutical
company set to relocate to the Cambridge
Biomedical Campus in 2017/2018, means
Cambridge’s strong rental market is set to
continue.
Educational
Trumpington Community College opened
its doors to Year 7 and 8 pupils at Great
Kneighton in September 2016. The state-ofthe-art
facility has space to accommodate
around 750 students and is Cambridge’s
first new 11–16 secondary school for half
a century.
Construction of the new primary school
at Great Kneighton, to be known as
Trumpington Park Primary School, is
scheduled to open to pupils in September
2017. The new school has been designed
with the intention to grow into a three
form entry school able to accommodate
approximately 630 pupils. Its facilities will
include two halls, a food technology room,
library and a nursery.
Convenience – Transport hub
Located at the centre of Great Kneighton,
Hobson’s Square’s proximity to the
Cambridgeshire Guided Bus and pedestrian/
cycle routes make it a hub for public
an interchange between the Cambridge
Guided Bus, the local buses and the busy
pedestrian/cycle route which connects
residents to Addenbrooke’s Hospital and
DE HAVILLAND HOUSE _ 9
WHITTLE AVENUE
The concept of ‘De Havilland House’ has
emerged from its exclusive address, Whittle
Avenue. Inspired by the historic figure, Sir Frank
Whittle, born in 1907; a Royal Air Force officer
who made a major contribution to the invention
of the jet engine and who gained a first at
Peterhouse, Cambridge. After financial backing
and Royal Air Force approval, Power Jets Ltd was
formed. Following a series of tests, the first flight
was made on 15 May 1941. The jet engine proved
to be a winner, particularly in America where the
technology was enthusiastically embraced.
The De Havilland Comet was the first production
commercial jet airliner that went into service in 1952.
Much of the design is similar to the commercial
airliners seen around the world today. The Comet
had four turbojet engines which made the aircraft
much more efficient at higher altitudes of flight than
its propeller-driven contemporaries. Furthermore,
it featured an internally pressurised fuselage/cabin
and also pioneered design elements which were
unusual at the time such as backward-swept wings,
integral wing fuel tanks and a four-wheel bogie
undercarriage.
Whittle Avenue forms part of a wider development
of sustainable new homes set in an upcoming
new area. The greater community has already
won prestigious awards making it one of the most
desirable residences in Cambridge. Currently an
aspiring place to live, this new address is sure to
stand the test of time.
This exciting scheme carries a signature style that
works with the way people live today. Offering
convenient access to a wide range of local amenities
and facilities, Whittle Avenue is seen as a great
place to call home.
Strategically located and well serviced by public
transport, commuting or a leisurely trip into the city
centre or train station couldn’t be easier - there is
direct access via the Cambridgeshire Guided Bus,
which runs directly through Great Kneighton. In
addition, the abundant network of footpaths and
cycle routes connect the new community to the
Cambridge Biomedical Campus and Addenbrookes
Hospital.
Situated in a prime spot, the travel connections to
London are excellent. Commuters can easily access
the M11 with links to the M25. London Stansted
Airport is around 25 miles via the M11. Alternatively,
there is a half hourly rail service from Cambridge to
London to Kings Cross in around 48 minutes and to
London Liverpool Street in approximately one hour
and 10 minutes.
