Save Thursday, April 27: We're Celebrating!
And we want to celebrate with you! On Thursday, April
27, we'll be gathering at Denver's Space Annex, in the Baker
neighborhood. This renovated 1960s warehouse, with its
loft windows, salvaged brick facade, exposed steel beams and
sandblasted fir wood ceiling, will be the venue for our Spring
Fundraiser.
We're so excited. We can't wait to see you, our volunteers,
members and donors, and to gather on this special night to
celebrate, support and raise money for A Little Help and our
mission of intergenerational connection!
Mark your calendar and watch your email. Tickets will go on
sale in March.
Join Our March Little Talk!
Join us Wednesday, March 22 at noon for a discussion on
Decluttering, Safety in the Home, and Organizing. Why
is this so important? Experts say doing a thorough springcleaning
of your home produces a number of health benefits,
including reduced stress and risk of injury, a strengthened
immune system, and improved mood. Call our office or go
online (www. alittlehelp.org/littletalks) to register.
Upcoming Little Talks: April 26, we’ll be taking an excursion
to Poland. May 24, we’ll be discussing the Great Outdoors —
lawns, gardening, landscaping, safe pesticides, the power of
flowers, and xeriscaping.
Volunteers! Join Us to Chat!
We'd like to meet you, answer your questions and hear
more about your volunteer experiences! Join us at the
Connecting Neighbors To Help Older Adults Thrive
Simmons Sentiments
Whether you’re newer to A Little Help or it’s just been
a while since we’ve widened the lens, I’d like to use our
time together this month to share more about the bigger
picture, the larger context in which we’re situated.
A Little Help is actually part of a national movement of
like-minded organizations that seek to
empower older neighbors to age well
in their homes and communities with
the support of good neighbors. The
Village Movement boasts more than
350 autonomous ‘villages’ throughout
the country that were founded on the
simple and profound idea of neighbors
helping neighbors.
The Village Movement began as a grassroots experiment
among a group of neighbors who wanted to take control
of their own futures and remain rooted in their own
neighborhoods and homes, rather than moving away as
they aged. As Beacon Hill Village got up and running and
gained media attention, new ‘Villages’ sprang up. Around
the country, older neighbors sought more agency in their
own aging experiences and good neighbors stepped up to
provide support. Today, the Village to Village Network
connects independent Villages throughout the U.S.
– sharing resources, providing inter-
Village mentorship, and advocating for
and growing the movement.
A Little Help is at the forefront of the
Village Movement, as its largest member.
In my role as the Vice President of the
Network’s Board of Directors, I’m able
to share A Little Help’s lessons learned
to bolster the Village Model, to enable
more older Americans to thrive in intergenerational
communities in the future. I’m so grateful for this amazing
community and the platform we have to accomplish this.
Thank you for going on this journey with us and for being
part of the local magic and the bigger picture.
What's New?
Welcome Sue Munro
A Little Help is excited to have Sue Munro
join us as our new Member Coordinator.
By the time you receive this newsletter,
Sue will have begun answering calls from
current members and welcoming new
members. Sue has been a social worker for
the past 25 years and is passionate about helping others.
She and her husband Ken have three teenage daughters
and two dogs.
Thank You!
Service Groups – corporate, community faithbased
service or other – make a huge difference for
our members. Thank you to volunteers from RISE
Volleyball Club and Canvas Bank who have helped our
members recently; and to volunteers from National
Renewable Energy Laboratory, who created Kindness
Kits for some of our members.
Wishing Rick Smith the Best
We are grateful to Rick Smith for his
leadership as A Little Help’s Western Slope
Coordinator since the summer of 2020, and
we wish him well with his new position as
Executive Director of Homeward Bound
of the Grand Valley. Rick plans to continue
being involved with A Little Help as a donor, volunteer
and stakeholder. He added, “It has been an honor to know
and work with what I think are exceptional and remarkable
people — board, staff, members, volunteers, and partners.”
A Little Help appreciates Rick's hard work, going above and
beyond to support older neighbors and engage community
members of all ages. We look forward to Rick's continued
support in new ways in the future. We are committed to
continuing our vital local mission in the Roaring Fork and
Grand Valleys through this transition. Thank you, Rick,
(and see you soon)!
A Little Help is on
Join us Thursday, April 27, for our Spring Fundraiser!
@ALittleHelpCO
Members, Did You Know?
Many of our members have made wonderful connections
to our volunteers during rides to the grocery store, medical
appointments, or beauty salons. These rides are always
dependent upon volunteer driver availability. When making
requests with the office, please allow a minimum of five days'
notice. You are welcome to call in with more advance notice
as this allows us more time to connect you with a volunteer
driver. We are unable to post any ride requests that are made
under the five-day minimum.
A Big Heartfelt Thank You to
