Not tested on animals" From My two friends and my husband and I finally got our hands on the Daytripper (missed this paper during the pandemic). It felt so good to go through the pages again. Happy 25th anniversary by the way! Pinecroft, Aylmer Anyway we all decided to go through the paper and jot down things we would like to do and then we got together on a Thursday and compared notes. Well there were a lot of things that we picked out the same and few different things, too. We hit the road leaving Sarnia and we drove to Aylmer and Pinecroft— great food, beautiful setting and a unique store. A must visit for anyone reading the Daytripper. We left there and headed to the Urban Wheel in Tillsonburg. A very unique store… kind of country, kind of variety, kind of craft-type store. From there we Our Readers By Carrie Durance, Sarnia ended up in Tillsonburg at the Antique Mall. Another great find that brings you down memory lane, and is well laid out and organized. We then went to Delhi Quance Park. Beautiful setting, unique buildings—kind of like a hiking trail within the park. From there we made our way to the Rustic Feather Barntique near Walsh. I recommend stopping there because it is so neat that they transformed the barn on their property into a beautiful store. The owner did say that they will be expanding next year and was so glad she posted an ad in the Daytripper. She has had so many people stop out since she did. We love the Daytripping crowd. We all should be proud of them for helping the local unique stores in our own back yard. This paper is the best treasure hunt of stores put all in one little package. Keep up the great job of giving us things to explore and fill our days with joy. Here’s hoping for another 25 years of the best newsprint an individual can find! The Carpenter Author An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer/contractor of his plans to leave the house-building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife, enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheque, but he needed to retire. They could get by. The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go, and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favour. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career. When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the front door key to the carpenter. “This is your house,” Over 109 YEARS the Same! 782-4390 269 Sunset Drive ST. THOMAS 519-631-7264 unknown he said, “my gift to you.” What a shock! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none to well. So it is with us. We build our lives in a distracted way reacting rather than acting, willing to put up with less than the best. At important points we do not give the job our best effort. Then with a shock, we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built. If we had realized that, we would have done it differently. Think of yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall, build wisely. It is the only life you will ever build. Even if you live it for only one day more, that day deserves to be lived graciously and with dignity. The plaque on the wall says, “Life is a do-it-yourself project.” Who could say it more clearly? Your life today is the result of your attitudes and choices in the past.
