I was born in Izmir in 1987, after
graduating from Ege University Public
Relations and Publicity Department; I
started to work in the textile sector. I have
been working in this sector for about 10
years. I started my business life in the field
of human resources and worked in
different companies in the areas of human
resources, audit and sustainability. I am
working as a "Sustainability Manager" at
the company I am currently in.
I am an old consumption frenzy and a new
sustainable living volunteer. In the times
remaining from my busy work schedule, I
love to research on sustainable living and
to practice in this field. I try to raise
awareness by telling those around me
about this love. Two years ago, I opened
my "A Sustainable Life" Instagram page
and I continue to share my experiences
there. To eat, to travel, to change existing
things
I love to implement projects that are based
on - forward transformation, to have a
pleasant time with the people I love.

How did you step towards sustainability,
what are your steps in transforming this
into a lifestyle?
hanks to the vision of my first employer, I was introduced to
T
sustainability while very few people were still talking about the
concept. I was one of the consumption freaks you are used to
seeing when I was introduced to the concept. I used to buy
textiles without thinking, and sometimes say goodbye to them
without wearing them at all. As I met this concept, I
remembered the fact that all our resources are limited. For this
reason, I decided that I did not want to waste neither the
world's resources nor the resources I own.
My buying habits changed first. In time, I returned to the habit
of not wasting, which I learned from my family but sometimes
forgot. I mean not wasting, not just taking what I do not need, I
am talking about not consuming resources.
With all I have read and learned about minimalism, zero waste
and sustainability, my lifestyle, which I believe to be
sustainable, has been formed. I dispose of the items I do not
use, I try to use the products I have for a longer time, and I try
to develop habits in accordance with the zero waste
philosophy.

Stan Gale, president of Gale
International, the developer company
behind Songdo IBD (Songdo
International Business District), said
that the project, which started in
2002, prioritized public transport
such as bicycles, buses and metro
instead of traffic density.
The Green City, which is expected to be
completed in 2020, will be 100 million square
meters in size. One of the strategies of the
developers, who aimed to make an
environmentally friendly city from the first
planning stage, was to reduce the need for
cars.
The smart and green city has a mixed-use
plan. Most of the buildings are within walking
distance of everywhere or 12 minutes from bus
and metro. About 40% of the area is divided
into green areas (about twice New York City),
which encourages residents to walk.
There will be no garbage trucks in the smart
city. Instead, the pneumatic tubing system will
suck garbage through ducts in buildings to a
central collection facility. The garbage will
either turn into energy or be recycled there.

Songdo IBD has over 100 buildings certified by
LEED, the world's most widely used green
building rating system. In addition, efforts are
made for LEED certification at the
neighborhood level and 40% of the water used
is planned to be recycled. Songdo City
produces one-third less greenhouse gases
compared to another city of the same size.
