TOTAL has been present in the UK since 1955. Today, the full diversity of the Group’s global
operations is reflected in the UK, with activities spanning the entire oil and gas chain:
exploration and production; gas and power; refining and marketing; and chemicals. We are
a major contributor to the UK economy, directly employing some 6,500 people and
indirectly supporting an estimated 35,000 jobs. UK investors make up approximately 15
per cent of the TOTAL Group’s shareholder base.
TOTAL E&P UK Limited is one of the leading oil and gas producers on the UK Continental
Shelf. Based in Aberdeen, the company owns and operates a cluster of fields in the Alywn
Area of the northern North Sea, the Elgin and Franklin fields in the central North Sea and
the Otter Field north east of Shetland. We are also developing the West Franklin Field in the
central North Sea. In addition, the company operates the St. Fergus Gas Terminal and
pipelines and has interests in a number of non-operated fields.
TOTAL Gas & Power ranks among Europe’s leading energy traders, marketing natural gas,
liquefied natural gas and electricity both in the UK and mainland Europe. We are also a
significant trader in carbon emission credits and hold a major position in the supply of gas
and electricity to industrial, commercial and business customers.
Located in north east Lincolnshire, we own and operate the 10 million metric tonnes
capacity Lindsey Oil Refinery, which supplies some 12.5 per cent of UK oil demand
as well as bitumen and petrochemical feedstock. Our refining and marketing business
is the UK’s fourth largest supplier of petrol and diesel for transport, which we deliver
to customers via our own 850 service stations and many of the UK’s major
supermarket forecourts. We also supply many of the country’s larger commercial
haulage businesses. Additionally, we are one of the largest commercial and home
heating oil suppliers and have interests in aviation, bitumen and lubricants supply.
Our UK chemical businesses are among the industry leaders. They operate under a
range of well known brand names, including Atotech, Bostik, Cray Valley, Hutchinson
and TOTAL Petrochemicals. Our products embrace base chemicals and polymers
together with specialist products for industrial and consumer use, including resins,
adhesives and electroplating.

TOTAL E&P UK Limited
TOTAL E&P UK Limited is the fourth-largest operator in the UK sector of the North
Sea, in terms of production and reserves and is one of the largest exploration and
production (E&P) subsidiaries of the TOTAL Group. Based in Aberdeen, the company
produced over 103 million barrels of oil equivalent from its operated assets, in 2006.
This represents about 12 per cent of the TOTAL Group production and about 10 per
cent of the UK’s oil and gas production.
During the 2005-2007 period, the company invested in the UK nearly £1 billion on
developments while expenditure on exploration activity is averaging more than £60
million annually.
In the northern North Sea, the company owns and operates five fields in the Alwyn
area (Alwyn North, Dunbar, Ellon, Grant, Otter and Nuggets). In December 2005, the
Forvie North Field produced first oil and in November 2006 the company made the
significant Jura discovery.
In the central North Sea the company is operator of Elgin-Franklin Field, which
produces gas condensate from extremely challenging high pressure / high
temperature reservoir conditions in order to develop the satellite fields, such as
Glenelg and West Franklin. Glenelg, which produced first oil in Spring 2006, is the
deepest, highest temperature well to be developed in the UK North Sea to date.

In the West of Shetland region, the Laggan gas discovery has been appraised and the
Tormore prospect was drilled in late 2007. The commercial feasibility of developing the
area is being assessed and, as part of this process, TOTAL E&P UK is an active
participant in the Government’s West of Shetland Task Force.
TOTAL E&P UK’s non-operated interests in the central and northern North Sea include
Bruce, ETAP, Alba, Armada and Nelson Fields.
The company operates the St Fergus Gas Terminal on the north east coast of
Scotland, on behalf of TOTAL and Gassled, the owner of the Norwegian Vestlerled
gas pipeline, which terminates at St Fergus. The Terminal receives and processes an
average of 21 per cent of the UK’s natural gas requirements from some 20 fields.
TOTAL E&P UK has 100 per cent interest in the UK Frigg pipeline, which also
terminates at St Fergus. The topsides of MCP-01, a manifold and compression
platform formerly on the UK Frigg pipeline, have been decommissioned and their
removal is the next stage of decommissioning.
The Company has an interest in the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal in the Sheltand Islands.
It also has an interest in the SEAL pipeline through E.F. Oil and Gas Limited (EFOG),
owned 77.5 per cent by Elf Exploration UK PLC and 22.5 per cent by Gaz de France;
EFOG has a 23.73 per cent share in SEAL.

TOTAL UK
TOTAL UK is the UK refining and marketing operation for the TOTAL Group. It is the
fourth largest oil company in the UK with a turnover of over £5 billion, and employs
over 5,000 people.
Our Lindsey Oil Refinery on the east coast at Killingholme, Lincolnshire, refines over
220,000 barrels of oil every day, which are turned into a wide range of products, from
different types of liquid fuels to gas, special fluids and bitumen.
Once the finished products leave the refinery, they are distributed around the UK by
road, rail, sea and underground pipelines. TOTAL has oil storage terminals at strategic
locations around England, Wales, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. From these
terminals, products are transported to commercial customers and the company’s
network of service stations.
We have a wide network of TOTAL branded service stations and also sell petroleum
products and lubricants into the industrial, road-transport and reseller markets.
TOTAL Butler is our company-owned fuel distributor and one of the largest of its kind
in the UK. We also have a large network of authorised distributors operating under the
TOTAL brand, as well as being a major supplier of fuel and lubricants to the Channel
Islands and to the Isle of Man. In addition, Nickerson Fuel Oils are the heavy fuel oil
division for TOTAL, supplying low sulphur, heavy and medium fuel oil and Power
Petroleum supplies to the independent retail market.

The Specialities division manufactures and sells lubricants, bitumen products and
petroleum-based solvents into the transport, building and manufacturing sectors.
We are also one of the country’s leading suppliers of aviation fuels, supplying London’s
Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports, as well as many smaller airfields around the
country.

TOTAL Lindsey Oil Refinery
Lindsey Oil Refinery (LOR) is Britain’s third largest refinery, with a capacity of up to 10
million tonnes a year of which 90 per cent is North Sea crude. Now wholly owned by
TOTAL, it began in 1966 as a joint investment by TOTAL and PetroFina and consisted
of two simple hydroskimming process trains. Since then it has grown and developed
into one of the most complex and technologically advanced refineries in Europe. This
enables it to process many different types of crude oil and respond quickly to changes
in market demand.
Extending over 500 acres on the south bank of the Humber Estuary, it employs some
550 people directly, as well as over 250 contract staff.
Products are distributed by sea, pipeline, rail and road and are predominantly
marketed by TOTAL UK, of which LOR is a part. Under normal conditions, a third of
production travels by sea and a third is taken by rail via LOR’s 13 miles of tracks and
sidings - the UK’s largest private rail complex. One sixth is exported by pipeline and
only one sixth travels by road.

TOTAL Gas & Power is part of the trading, gas and electricity division of the TOTAL
Group. TOTAL Gas & Power is one of the most significant gas, electricity and liquefied
natural gas traders in Europe. The company markets gas and power both in the UK and
on the USA and Continental markets with offices in London and Houston. As part of its
business it also trades carbon emission allowances.
In conjunction with its gas trading activities, TOTAL Gas & Power has signed a number
of long term LNG purchase agreements with various production companies such as
Nigeria, Qatar, Norway and Yemen. In 2009 it will commence the import of LNG from
Qatar into the UK via the South Hook terminal in which the Total Group has an interest.
In addition to its trading activities, TOTAL Gas & Power also holds a major position in
the supply of gas and electricity to industrial, commercial and business customers.
Through its retail arm, TOTAL Gas & Power supplies natural gas and electricity to
50,000 industrial and commercial sites in the UK ranging from the small to medium
enterprise through to the large commercials with many sites and heavy industrial users.
The main retail operations are based in Redhill, Surrey and at a smaller regional office in
Leeds. This part of the company employs 250 people.
