OUR TOPIC OF<br />
ANIMALS<br />
The children in the Early Learning Centre<br />
have been learning about animals.<br />
They have been looking at different animal<br />
habitats, discussing their basic needs, life<br />
cycles, and dinosaur time lines. The Early<br />
Learners have learnt about farm animals,<br />
creatures of the sea, and those creepy<br />
crawlies that often live under the ground.<br />
A focus for them has been spiders.<br />
The children have learnt about Trap Door<br />
Spiders. The spider lies in wait in its burrow,<br />
and when it senses its prey, it opens the<br />
trap door and quickly drags the prey back<br />
into the burrow. After discussing this, many<br />
children went to the collage area and, using<br />
boxes and bits and pieces, constructed their<br />
own burrows, complete with spider and<br />
trap door.<br />
Learning about their environment, and<br />
the animals they share it with, helps the<br />
children to gain an understanding of the<br />
world in which they live.<br />
