Bhutan’s Air Network Expanded To Singapore
Tourists are now served by Bhutan’s national carrier Drukair
From September 2012, passengers who wish to travel to Bhutan can
now board the twice-weekly service between Singapore and the city of
Paro. The new route via Kolkata, India, allows passengers to reach their
destination in under six hours.
Operating out of Changi Airport’s Terminal 1, Drukair is using the
Airbus A319 aircraft in a two-class configuration with 20 business
class seats and 94 economy seats. The flight arrives in Singapore from
Paro at 3.15 pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays, while the return flight
from Singapore to Paro departs at 6 am on Thursdays and Sundays.
On 28 August 2012, the inaugural flight touched down at Changi
Airport with Her Royal Highness Princess Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck
onboard, together with senior government officials from Bhutan. A
celebratory reception hosted by Changi Airport Group (CAG) was held
in the evening at Mandarin Oriental Singapore, with the Minister of
Transport Lui Tuck Yew present.
“We felt we’d be able to have better connectivity from Singapore. We
have noticed a lot of tourists who come through Singapore to Bhutan,”
said Tandin Jamso, Chief Executive Officer of Drukair. “Changi is a good
hub as far as South-east Asia is concerned.”
A new milestone for Drukair and dnata.
With Bhutan aiming to receive 100,000 visitors from Singapore a year,
“Drukair is trying to increase flight frequencies and capacity by adding
more aircraft,” said Mr Jamso. It will add Mumbai to its network by the
year-end, and there are plans to add a third weekly service between
Singapore and Paro in the second half of next year.
dnata Singapore is proud to be the ground and cargo handling services
provider for Drukair.
