Let’s face it—working out from home isn’t easy. Staying motivated, interested and committed is a challenge.
So what do you do when you hit that “plateau” and need a little boost? Reinvigorate your routine by adding these simple,
inexpensive accessories to your workout, along with a few choice outfits from Cotidien Activewear.
Let
out your
inner Rocky
Balboa with this
tried
and true favou-
rite of all
the best box-
ers: jumping
rope. Since this exercise gets your heart
pumping fast, it’s great for your cardiovascular
system and heart health. Just 15
minutes of jumping rope burns an average
of 300 to 450 calories and challenges
all of the major muscle groups. Plus,
it improves motor skills and coordination
(which are important to maintain
especially as we age) by requiring several
body parts to communicate in order to
complete the movement.
I
f you’ve taken a Pilates
class or undergone physio
- you’ve probably encountered
resistance bands. The great thing
about them is their versatility. They can
typically be added to any existing workout
routine to help you maximize the use
of all your muscle groups. For example,
try adding a resistance band to a regular
push up: wrapping the band across
your shoulders/ back forces you to fight
against the band on the recovery movement—essentially
preventing you from
using the upward momentum to “cheat”
and make the exercise easier. Or, use a
band to do an overhead press while you’re
doing a lunge. We promise you’ll start to
feel the burn fast!
A
nother allround
fitness
accessory, the
weighted ball or “medicine ball” has been
around for close to 3,000 years, so there
must be something to it! We love this accessory
because it adds an element of play
to workouts while improving coordination,
balance and core strength. You can
add a medicine ball to everything from
sit-ups and chest twists to squats and
more. Or simply throw your ball against
the wall and enjoy the benefits of “functional
movement,” which will help you
perform everyday tasks more efficiently,
like lifting heavy things or passing an
object to another person.
