MEASURING IMPACT

In March of 2020, the Austin Independent School District made a decision to

go to virtual learning as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. As in prior

years, SBSK would have captured vital data in the month of April and

included it in our annual impact report. As we all know now, 2020 was no

ordinary year. While we were not able to fully survey our students, families,

and school partners for the 2019-2020 school year, we were able to capture a

few key elements.

OUR COVID-19 RESPONSE

APRIL-AUGUST 2020

As a response to COVID-19 and the closure of AISD schools, Side by Side

Kids pivoted from afterschool program services to direct care services. We

reached out, communicated with, and surveyed our program participant

families to better understand what needs and challenges they were facing.

Here are our findings and how you helped us meet those needs.

IMPACT STORIES

"WITHOUT YOUR DONATIONS AND HELP, WE

PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE MEALS SOME

DAYS. WE WOULDN'T BE HERE WITHOUT Y'ALL."

-SBSK PARENT, ROBERT

Robert, whose son Lockwyn is in our afterschool

program at Oak Hill Elementary, explained the

instrumental role SBSK has played in his family. As

a single father, Robert says our program allows him

to work longer and strengthen his relationship with

his son by making their time together more

intentional where they can connect over their

shared faith in Jesus.

10

Because of COVID-19 and Lockwyn doing school

from home, he has been unable to go to work,

which has made our donations even more vital. We

are honored to partner with such incredible parents

like Robert!

We sat down with Stephanie, who has had three

children go through SBSK, to talk about why she

believes so strongly in our program. Out of several

afterschool programs, she chose SBSK because she

wanted her kids to learn about Jesus but was not

exactly sure how to teach them herself.

"If SBSK was not there, they wouldn't have the

relationship with the Lord that they have today,"

says Stephanie.

As a result of them knowing the Lord personally, Stephanie has witnessed her children's

behavior change, which has shaped a worldview framed by giving and helped them pursue

academics with discipline. It is such a joy to witness the Lord moving through families like

Stephanie's!

"I'M GRATEFUL YOU GUYS WERE THERE TO DO

THE THINGS I COULDN'T DO AS A PARENT FOR

MY CHILDREN."

-SBSK PARENT, STEPHANIE
