On April 27, 1912, the Chandler Chamber was founded built on 

determination and visionary leaders. Today, that tradition lives on as 

the Chandler Chamber continues to be the catalyst, connector, and 

community champion for business. Because of our members and leadership, 

the Chandler Chamber will celebrate 109 years of building business and 

building the community. We remain dedicated to our members commitment and 

continuing to build #ChandlerStrong. 

The work of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce is more important now, than ever 

before. Every day, we are working hard to be a resource of information and education. 

We are advocating for policies and strategies that will help our members through these 

difficult times. We are leading by example. 

Today, we must continue efforts for a robust economic recovery. Now is the 

time when chambers can make the biggest difference and live up to our historical 

reputation of being your champion of business sustainability and resiliency. 

As we have changed, pivoted, and learned from the past year, it is time to put 

the past 12 months behind us. The Chandler Chamber continues to look towards 

excitement with enhanced programming and initiatives for our members and 

community. Our business roundtable discussion groups are addressing issues in 

Chandler with collaboration and inclusiveness. From our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion 

efforts, Education and Workforce Coalition to our virtual networking events, we are 

addressing the topics that matter most to today’s business. 

One of our exciting April programs will be the Social Media Summit on April 13, 14, 

and 15. This virtual event will include some of the region’s foremost experts offering 

their best advice in marketing. Nine experts in just three days. This is an event you won’t 

want to miss. We know that “normal” has been hard to come by this past year, but we 

are excited in what the future will bring. 

Thanks to the strength of our business community pulling together, Chandler is 

bouncing back. We thank you for your continued support of the Chandler Chamber 

of Commerce.

Gila River announced its plans to expand Wild Horse Pass in the Fall of 2021. This will include 205 new 

rooms, poolside suites, gaming floor enhancements, and an oasis pool with cabanas. It also includes 18,000+ 

square feet of expansive meeting space, a rooftop restaurant, an adult pool for ages 21 and more! Click here

Gila River Gaming Enterprises owns and operates three casinos located in the Phoenix metropolitan 

area. Casinos include Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino, Lone Butte Casino, and Vee Quiva Hotel & Casino. 

The Enterprise’s newest casino, Vee Quiva Hotel & Casino, opened July 2, 2013, showcasing several unique 

amenities new to the valley. 

OTHER NEWS Northrop Grumman Corporation announced they were awarded a contract by the 

Missile Defense Agency for the Next Generation Interceptor program. This contract allows them to continue 

to bring more jobs and career opportunities for not only Chandler but Arizona as a whole. 

Intel they are investing $20 billion in the expansion of Chandler’s Ocotillo Campus. It is expected to 

create over 3,000 permanent high-wage jobs, over 3,000 construction jobs, and approximately 15,000 local 

long-term jobs. Planning and construction activities are expected to begin immediately. 

Dignity Health Chandler Regional Medical Center opened a new Heart Arrhythmia Center designed to 

diagnose and treat patients suffering from irregular heartbeats such as atrial fibrillation using the most 

advanced technology in the center’s electrophysiology lab.

opportunities that success creates.

recently announced the 

availability of vaccines to all 

residents over the age of 16, 

meaning we are one step

Chamber remains in touch with our state 

officials, and current local trends in order 

to guide businesses as they navigate new 

strategies for success.

Councilmembers, Christine Ellis and OD 

Harris as they are both eager to explore 

their vision for a better Chandler. 

There are still challenges ahead, and 

you’ll read about some of them in this 

month’s edition of the Chamber CONNECT 

magazine. However, no one has to navigate 

those challenges alone. The Chamber board 

and staff are here as your partner in the

Welcome to the Chamber Team 

Welcome Angie Vandine. Angie was raised in Seattle, Washington by an oil painter 

and a carpenter. She learned early on the meaning of “we can make that ourselves and 

we can make it better.” She has carried that belief throughout her life, always thinking 

of ways to take something great and elevate it to what she calls “unicorn status.” As 

the Digital Marketing and Events Manager at the Chandler Chamber of Commerce, she 

keeps the Chamber’s eye on the horizon always seeking out new and innovative ways 

to support her embers.

She has carried this throughout her life, striving 

to take something great and elevate it to what she 

calls 'unicorn status.' 

Her education includes graphic and web design, social media marketing, and print production. She brings 

with her years of chamber experience and a passion to help facilitate the growth and prosperity of local

Her family is chock-full of ASU Sun Devils. Her oldest a graduate, her youngest a current student and she is 

currently working towards her Graphic Information Technology Degree at ASU.

have modernized all of our guest bathrooms to include 

back light mirrors, tile surround showers, closet doors/ 

mirrors and new tile in entryway. Our swimming pool is 

the largest resort pool in Chandler with 75,000 gallons

Camp Chair Wine Tasting

d’Vine Gourmet Introduces ‘Camp 

Chair Wine Tastings’ where you will

10 Year Annivesary 

This year marks the 10 year 

anniversary of the opening of 

Copper Creek Inn Memory Care. 

Copper Creek supports family care 

givers and their loved ones who 

are living with dementia through 

short term stays well as long 

term care. Through educational 

opportunities, they help businesses 

reduce absenteeism and enhance 

productivity. They offer a free a 

memory support group for all who 

are affected by Alzheimer’s and 

other forms of dementia. They 

raise funds and awareness for 

Alzheimer’s research through the 

annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s 

because Alzheimer’s disease is a 

global epidemic. They hope to 

celebrate their accomplishments 

with a ribbon cutting/open house 

in December, 2021.

approximately $10 million to 

business assistance programs

community so the City can 

continue to provide necessary 

assistance.

the “I Choose Chandler Business 

Hiring and Retention Program” 

has provided $9.3 million in 

relief funding to more than 

800 businesses, more than 250 

businesses have been reimbursed 

for purchases of personal 

protective equipment (PPE) 

through a partnership with the 

Chandler Industrial Development 

Authority, and PPE kits have been 

distributed to more than 1,150 

businesses through a partnership 

with the Chamber. The PPE 

reimbursement grant and PPE 

kit distribution 

program are still 

open to qualifying 

businesses. 

Our businesses 

have been hit 

hard, and by 

proxy, so have 

employees and 

families. Through 

federal, state and Community 

Development Block Grant 

funding sources, the City created 

rent and utility assistance 

programs to help our residents. 

The latest infusion of dollars from 

the U.S. Department of Treasury 

of over $7 million will drastically 

boost these programs, with a goal 

of helping residents back pay up 

to 12 months of unpaid rental and 

utility fees. This could be a life 

changing opportunity for those 

hit hardest this past year. 

AZCEND will continue to manage 

the application process and 

distribution of funds. As we work 

together in this time of recovery 

and rebuilding, I encourage you 

to continue to share your needs 

and concerns as a business 

community so the City can 

continue to provide necessary 

assistance.

Class Focuses on Social Services 

The Chandler Chamber Community Foundation Leadership Institute 

Class 37 completed another successful virtual issue day! March’s issue 

day highlighted Social Services. The focus on this issue day was to learn 

about the Social Services programs in Chandler and the importance of 

community involvement as it relates to volunteerism, philanthropy, and 

engagement. 

The class had the opportunity to hear from 6 nonprofit organizations 

located right here in Chandler, sharing with the group the mission of their 

organizations, the evolving needs they have faced due to the pandemic, 

and ways that the community can join them in their efforts. 

The class was also joined by Trinity Donovan, CEO of AZCEND, who 

provided great insight on the roles of nonprofit organization board 

members, and how they are crucial to the success of an organization. 

The program concluded with the group’s second Diversity, Equity & 

Inclusion workshop, facilitated by Tyler Conaway with PayPal, which 

focused on understanding what a community is, and how to effectively 

engage with our communities.

Birkenau 

brings its 

Lessons to 

the World 


are bringing live, interactive 

tours of the Auschwitz-Birkenau 

Concentration Camp in Poland to 

the United States. 

In 2019, 2.4 million people 

from around the world visited 

Auschwitz. When the pandemic 

stopped travel and tours, longtime 

Auschwitz tour guide Dr. Jerzy 

Wójcik reimagined how he could 

educate the world by taking his 

experience, images and education 

and creating an interactive walkthrough 

of the Auschwitz grounds. 

This two-hour program 

consists of historical footage, 

aerial photos, drone recordings, 

survivor testimonies and 

more. The experience is fully 

customizable with educational 

content adjusted to cater to 

students of any age, scholars, 

professionals and other groups. 

Mala, a tour participant, said, 

“It was absolutely extraordinary. I 

have never been to Auschwitz, but 

I feel like this was a much more 

comprehensive way to see it than 

visiting in person.” 

The EVJCC has an exclusive 

partnership with Dr. Wójcik to 

offer the 2-hour event throughout 

the United States and Canada. Due 

to the long-standing support of 

Holocaust Education efforts in the 

state, Arizona groups will be first 

in line with priority when it comes 

to the brand-new virtual reality 

experience. 

“The Holocaust is a 

universal plague, and while it 

disproportionally affected Jews, 

it also affected disabled people, 

peaceful dissenters, gays and 

lesbians, and citizens of countries 

throughout the world,” says 

Rabbi Michael Beyo, EVJCC CEO. 

“Hundreds of millions of people 

were affected by WWII and this 

human historical phenomenon, 

and my greatest fear is the day 

that it is reduced to a few lines in 

a textbook.” 

The tours are typically limited 

to large groups, however on 

Wednesday, April 7, in honor 

of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust 

Remembrance Day) two sessions 

will be opened to individuals. Sign 

up for this commemorative event 

at evjcc.org/Auschwitz-tour. 

The tour is available to groups 

with a minimum 25 people for 

$30 per person, with discounts 

available for multiple tours 

and schools. This includes an 

hour-long pre-tour seminar, the 

personal, live tour with Jerzy 

Wójcik, and a question and 

answer session. The EVJCC is 

also developing partnerships with 

businesses that would like to 

participate or sponsor tours.

False Unemployment 

Claims Soar 

The increase in 

unemployment claims is 

creating a new headache 

for business owners; an 

increase in false unemployment 

claims landing in their mailboxes. 

Throughout Arizona, businesses are 

reporting fraudulent claims from 

people who have never worked at 

their company, and in some cases, 

claims coming in under the names 

of their current employees. 

And while the claims are false, 

the social security numbers they 

are using are real. 

Business owners need to go 

through the process of reporting 

the fraud and working through the 

Arizona Department of Economic 

Securitiy (DES) to report the fraud. 

In the meantime, CreditGuard 

is offering businesses a way 

to safeguard their employees’ 

personal information. 

CreditGuard, can monitor 

changes in address, which is 

how many of these fraudulent 

claims succeed, and send alerts 

if information is being traded, or 

a social security number is being 

used. The company is working

more valuable than ever.”

the annual Legislative Reception, 

and Candidate Forums. 

GOLF COMMITTEE 

The golf committee plans the 

annual Chandler Chamber Charity 

Golf Tournament. A portion of the 

proceeds benefits the Chandler 

Chamber Community Foundation 

Scholarships for deserving 

Chandler-Gilbert Community 

College students. The committee 

also volunteers at the event. 

CHANDLER 100 

Chandler 100 is an annual event 

that showcases the top 100 

stakeholder businesses in the city. 

In 2020, because of the efforts 

from the incredible businesses 

here in Chandler to pivot, shift and 

serve our community, the Chandler 

Chamber celebrated the companies 

and industries who forged forward, 

changing strategies to stay relevant 

while pitching in and serving the 

community we live in.

OSTRICH FESTIVAL 


Commerce Ostrich Festival began 

in 1988 based on Chandler’s colorful 

early history of ostrich ranching. 

The event has grown to become 

one of the premier festivals in the 

southwest. The Ostrich Festival is a 

community family event featuring 

live ostriches and ostrich-themed 

activities, national and regional 

entertainment, carnival midway, 

fun fair food, upscale arts & crafts 

and much more. This committee 

helps plan the event and volunteers 

during the event to ensure a smooth 

execution in all areas of the festival.
