D10.1 Lifting EquipmEnt
Hynds pipe Systems utilise swiftlift (or pin head) anchors
in its concrete products for the purpose of safe product
handling during manufacture and on site installation.
The swiftlift system comprises certified lifting pins, which are embedded in the concrete product during manufacture, and
proprietary lifting ‘clutches’ which grasp the pins during lifting. Swiftlifts must be used in accordance with the manufacturers
specification. and drying, to high loading installations underneath highways and deep embankments.
As the manufacturers of concrete products,
Hynds Pipe Systems requires that a spreader beam be used
where a product is being lifted and the lifting chains would
exert an inward crushing force on the walls of the product.
The products that should be lifted with the use of
a spreader beam include:
■ Manholes
■ Flanged Bases
■ Cesspits
■ Wing Walls
■ Septic Tanks
■ Grease Traps
■ Oil and Grit Interceptors
Hynds can supply two types of spreader beam as required.
Each beam is adjustable and can handle all flange bases and
risers from 1050 to 2050 diameter.
Note: Tanks require use of two spreader beams.
Slings
The longer the slings the lower the load on the anchors.
For example at an included angle of 170° the load on each
sling is six times the weight of the actual load being lifted.
Important Notes:
■ Only use the sling at an angle of less than 60°.
■ Do not make the sling length shorter than the distance
between the two anchors, which will ensure the sling
angle will be less than 60°.
Option A (Spreaderb)
Installation
1. Remove R-clip and lock pin from spreader bar.
2. Place spreader bar on top of product and adjust
spreader length to match width of product.
3. Fit lock pin and R-clip.
4. Make sure spreader bar is right way up,
(widest chain notch on top).
5. Fit chain links into notches at the end of the spreader,
with the length of chain from notches being the
same on both sides of the product to make the
spreader level.
6. Check that the length of the lifting chains above the
spreader bar are at least as long as the length of the
spreader beam. Note: Angle of chain to be less than
60˚. The longer the slings the lower the load on the
anchors. Refer to figure 4 for more information.
7. The lifting clutch is attached to the swiftlift anchor by
lowering the clutch slot over the anchor and rotating
the clutch tab until it rests on the concrete surface with
the tab on the side that will be uppermost when lifting,
refer to diagrams. As the load is lifted with the anchor in
shear the clutch comes into contact
with the concrete.
This transfers the lifting force into the concrete and the
anchor prevents the clutch slipping out of
the recess.
Note: If the lifting clutch is not attached properly it can slip from the
swiftlift or the swiftlift could fail, resulting in the load dropping.
