This a composition or arrangement of graphics, including
typography, saved in bitmap tiff format. Images are
arranged in a composition that distinctly expresses the
natural phenomenon.

LETTERFORMS
Letters clearly define a subject and its content. By creating
letterforms of a new custom typeface, these forms
embody the very essence and the feeling of the hands.

PATTERNS
The repetition of line, shape and illustration creates
unique patterns. These patterns represent the core value
of the project’s concept and showcase hands as art.

This gesture is commonly known as being the
“O.K.” symbol. The gesture is typically used by
scuba divers, because it equates to saying "I am
OK" or asking other divers "Are you OK?"

A chart, graph, and/or other visual representations of
information creates what is known as an infographic.
These infographics communicate common hand gestures and
a small fact about them.

Dating back to 1905. The hand symbol “ILY”
gained it’s traction and popularity from media
exposure when the host of Family Feud, Richard
Dawson, flashed the ILY to sign off each episode.
The "peace sign", or AKA the “CND” symbol
(Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) originated
as a symbol representing the threat of nuclear
annihilation used in British in 1958.

COMPOSITION
Artwork created with only paper—cut
or folded—tells a story about the natural
phenomenon or captures its essence.
It should say something new about the natural
phenomenon and uses paper to do it. This
technique is timeless.

These images captured communicate,
relate to, and signify the concept of hands.
Digital and film images exhibit in depthof-field
and motion reinforce the concept.

These graphics involve the creating
3-dimensional signage for the display
of projects. Posters for an exhibit

TYPE COMPOSITIONS
A dynamic composition using only type
can be as powerful as a photograph.
An essay, poem or song related to the
natural phenomenon can transform
the page into a graphic experience.

to “get a grip” on your life — however, as philosopher Immanuel
Kant once posited, “the hand is the visible part of the brain.” Or
more succinctly the hand is an extension of the mind.
