Super Camping / Select Lodging - How to Use This Guide

HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE

The Travel-British-Columbia.com print guide is designed to assist you in finding a place to stay, whether

camping, RVing or driving on your vacation in British Columbia and Alberta. It features information

on private campgrounds, RV Parks and lodging establishments that are members of the BC Lodging

and Campgrounds Association; Parks & Campground Owners’ Association of Alberta; Parks Canada

campgrounds; RV dealers in BC who offer services and supplies and RV rental companies.

LAYOUT

The guide is divided into three sections,

organized by the six British Columbia

tourism regions, and includes a new Alberta

tourism region.

Section 1

Super Camping and Select Lodging listings,

Pages 4 – 50, appear under their community

and are arranged in alphabetical order. Each

listing has a number that corresponds with

the same number on the BC pullout map.

Search for Campgrounds and RV Parks Icon

Look for Lodging, Cottages & Resorts Icon

Section 2

RV dealers, RV rental companies and RV

services are located on pages 51-52.

Section 3

Winter Camping & RVing are listed on pages

53 - 55. These facilities are open year-round,

offering campsites on a daily, weekly and/or

monthly basis from November 1 – March 31

(winter season).

Maps

A BC pullout map is located in the centre of

the guide. All Super Camping/Select Lodging

listed properties are identified on the map

by a red numbered dot and cross-referenced

under their tourism region with the relevant

page numbers where you can find the

detailed listing. Where there are several

properties in one community, they are all

identified by the same red numbered dot.

The separate Alberta map on page 48 also

identifies the location of listed properties in

that province.

SEE INDEX ON PAGE 56 FOR A

COMPLETE LIST OF COMMUNITIES

RATES INFORMATION

The guide features 2021 rates. In rare cases

where they are unavailable, 2020 rates have

been substituted. Rates quoted are net of

taxes unless stated. An additional 5% Goods

and Services Tax (GST) applies to all rates

and in the case of room rentals at lodging

establishments an additional 8% Provincial

Sales Tax. Certain communities in BC also

charge a local hotel room tax (Municipal

Regional District Tax (MRDT)) of 2% or 3%.

Please note that rates published in the guide

are subject to change. Generally, printed rates

represent low season to high season. Rates

printed are not necessarily available at all

times. When making a reservation directly

with a campground, RV Park or lodging

accommodation it is recommended that you

ask for their cancellation and refund policy.

FROM COAST TO COAST ON VANCOUVER ISLAND

Come to Vancouver Island and experience

“Island Time”, where you will

enjoy the charm and uniqueness

that this region has to offer – countryside,

seaside, the Pacific Ocean, ancient forests,

mountain views.

Crossing the Island from coast to coast

starts on the east side in Qualicum alongside

the Salish Sea and heads west to Tofino and

the Pacific Ocean. Hwy 4 is the route that

will take you there, but before you leave

Qualicum there are a few places to visit that

will provide lasting memories.

Head to the Cowichan Valley, a pastoral

region that has been named as part of the

international slow food movement. Cheeses, seafood and specialty

fare are among the local offerings that foodies come here every year

to experience. Also, visit award-winning artists’ studios that dot the

countryside.

Duncan is known as the City of Totems with dozens of First Nations

totems. Take a self-guided tour and also check out this restored

historic town. North a short distance is Chemainus, a seaside community

with over 40 murals and sculptures.

Nanaimo is famous for its Nanaimo Bar and it has its very own

trail. Pick up a trail guide at a local visitor centre and enjoy some tasty

treats at locations throughout Nanaimo and beyond. While there

enjoy the harbour seawalk and watch the busy harbour in action.

Miles of sandy beach, with a tide that goes out forever, lines the

shore of Parksville and Qualicum. Walk the

beach, paddle, and look for shells and tiny

marine life that hide in the tide pools.

Once you start heading west on Hwy

4 you will come across Coombs Country

Market. Stop and see the goats feeding on the

grass roof! Explore the delightful country

market with fresh produce, a deli, gifts and

more. And make sure you sample their

famous ice cream.

As you head towards Port Alberni, the

road takes you through MacMillan Provincial

Park, an old-growth forest of Douglas Fir

and Western Red Cedar. In Port Alberni you

can experience the sights and sounds of the steam railway by taking

a ride on the Port Alberni Steam Train that runs to the McLean Mill

National Historic Site.

Once you arrive on the west coast you will be awed by the expanse

of sand and sea and the Pacific Ocean,

Experiencing the beaches and surf in

Tofino draw people to stay and return

often. Long Beach’s sandy beach covers 16

km of uninterrupted shoreline. Exploring

the tidal pools, snorkelling or surfing are

just some of the activities that will keep

you occupied, along with hiking, whale

watching and fresh seafood that complement

your Vancouver Island trip.

The Vancouver, Coast & Mountains Region offers a diverse range of world-class attractions and activities

across four unique destination areas. Metro Vancouver enjoys a beautiful west coast location where it’s

possible to golf, kayak, and catch an opera in the same day. The Fraser Valley and Fraser Canyon is defined

by the Fraser River and is home to fantastic whitewater rafting, sturgeon and salmon fishing, and plenty of

farm-fresh food. The Sea-to-Sky Corridor features ocean and mountain views along the Sea-to-Sky Highway.

This area is a renowned destination for hiking, mountain biking, and skiing and is also home to Whistler. The

Sunshine Coast offers no less with windswept beaches, lush forests, and many art galleries and studios.

DISCOVER BC’S SUNSHINE COAST & OCEANSIDE ROUTE

There’s a good reason why the

Sunshine Coast bears its name: it

receives some 2,400 hours of sunlight

annually. Sun-warmed beaches, marine

adventures, and picturesque coastal scenery

are all part of this tour.

Start by boarding the Langdale Ferry at

Horseshoe Bay for a 45-minute trip. Heading

north you reach the historic town of

Sechelt, a community rich in arts, culture

and old-fashioned pubs and marinas. All

along the coast, rocky beaches and gentle

surf make kayaking and wildlife-viewing

enjoyable activities.

Earl’s Cove is the furthest you can drive

on the highway before ferrying across Jervis Inlet. On this 50-minute

trip over to Saltery Bay you will see spectacular coastal scenery

against the backdrop of the Coast Mountain range and beautiful

fjords that adorn British Columbia’s coast.

Next stop is Powell River, situated on the Malaspina Strait and

surrounded by some of the most spectacular natural beauty in the

world. Powell River‘s original homes and businesses are Victorianstyled

and have become western Canada’s only National Historic

Townsite.

Before taking the ferry from Powell River to Vancouver Island,

drive up to Lund, a charming seaside community just 30 minutes

away. The Gateway to Desolation Sound attracts visitors to the area

with sightseeing boat tours and access to the Sunshine Coast Trail.

The ferry from Powell River crosses the Strait of Georgia to Comox.

The snow-capped mountains, plunging valleys, and salty sea

Powell River, Province of BC

embody limitless recreational opportunities

for adventurers.Visitors can also relax and

take in the unique shops, art shows, and

theatrical performances.

As you travel down the island, you’ll

come upon the communities of Qualicum

Beach and Parksville, known as Oceanside.

Here the world-renowned beach stretches

an incredible 70 km. Kayaking and sailing

are popular in these pristine waters, but

locals will tell you that the real attractions

are salmon fishing and scuba diving.

Continue south along the coast to Nanaimo.

With dozens of parks, exceptional

shopping, cultural scenery and fine dining, there’s no question

why Nanaimo is popular. An entire afternoon can be spent on the

harbour-front watching the flurry of tugs, ferries and floatplanes.

The small communities of Ladysmith and Chemainus are a short

distance down the coast. Ladysmith

is a picturesque small town with its

restored Edwardian buildings that house

art galleries, antiques shops, and other

collectibles. Chemainus is known for its

world-famous murals.

This trip ends in Victoria, British Columbia’s

provincial capital and is steeped

in Victorian decadence. Double-decker

buses, formal gardens, and the tradition

of afternoon tea offer visitors a little bit

of Britain on BC’s West Coast.

Northern British Columbia stretches from towering Mount Robson in the east to Haida Gwaii (formerly

the Queen Charlotte Islands) in the west and is a vast wilderness of grizzly bears, pristine glaciers,

ancient totems and raw rugged beauty. This is a land where outdoor recreation is a certainty and where

alpine mountains and crystal clear lakes offer everything from helicopter skiing to salmon fishing.

Visitors come here to golf, go horseback riding, hike the many trails, experience alpine and cross-country

skiing and more. Northern British Columbia has an abundance of wildlife – some very rare including

the Kermode or spirit bear and Stone’s sheep. To experience true wilderness like no other destination,

plan a trip to Northern British Columbia.

“Bare” Campsites are Safe Campsites

Every year, thousands of animals get into

conflict with people as a result of human

behaviours and practices.

Anything that has an odour can

attract bears and other wildlife.

Never leave these items unattended

or bring them into your sleeping area.

Keep it ‘bare’ when you’re not

there or when you’re sleeping.

This will keep you and your

camping neighbours safe.

ALBERTA

Straddling the BC-Alberta border are the stunning Canadian Rockies with towering snow-covered mountains, glaciers, turquoise

lakes and alpine meadows. In Southern Alberta the city of Calgary offers international sights, sounds and flavours. For dinosaur

history, travel to the Canadian Badlands. Head on to the Cowboy Trail (Hwy 22), following the foothills of the Rockies through

grasslands and soaring snow-covered mountains, and horse riding and rodeos are popular. There’s so much to explore in Alberta.

CANADIAN ROCKIES, ALBERTA TO

THE COAST MOUNTAINS, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Experience a road trip of a lifetime. Enjoy breathtaking scenery

infused with rich Canadian history as you drive from Calgary,

Alberta to Vancouver, British Columbia. Wind your way

through breathtaking snow-capped alpine peaks and around iridescent

aquamarine lakes. Witness the highest mountain peak in Canada

(Mount Robson 3,954 m) and discover limestone formations.

Setting out from Calgary drive west to Banff. As well as the breathtaking

scenery and adventure opportunities, Western Canada’s oldest

natural history museum, Banff Park Museum, is here with interpretive

programs and exhibits. Learn about the wildlife and see it up close in

a safe environment.

Head to Lake Louise and Jasper. Take the 7 minute alpine ride on

the Jasper Skytram with an on-board host who provides great commentary.

The largest glacial lake in the Canadian Rockies is Maligne

Lake. Stop for a boat tour followed by afternoon tea at the beautiful

chalet while savouring the world famous views.

Lillooet

Crossing from Alberta into British Columbia follow signs to Valemount/Kamloops.

Go whitewater rafting on the Fraser River or for a

gentler activity, paddle or fish Kinbasket Lake.

Stop awhile in Wells Gray Provincial Park. Do a spot of hiking on

one of the many paths and check out a waterfall or two.

Head south and turn off onto Interlakes Hwy/Hwy 24. Known as

the Fishing Highway there is access to over 100 lakes. The highway is

also rich with history, as it connects Little Fort in the east to 100 Mile

House in the west. A route that parallels a similar one used centuries

ago by fur traders.

As you near the end of this highway look for signs to Lillooet.

Explore Marble Canyon Provincial Park which offers opportunities

to see wildlife, rock climb, scuba dive and more. View the sheer limestone

rock formations carved out of the Pavilion Mountain range and

brilliant colours of sparkling lakes. Pavilion Lake is a popular spot for

swimming, canoeing and kayaking.

Take some time to visit Hat Creek Ranch where you can go back

in time and learn about the Gold Rush days via costumed local

interpreters.

Continuing on Hwy 99 brings you to Whistler with an abundance

of bike trails, hiking and lots of adventure such as the Peak to Peak

Gondola, ziplining, helicopter or float

plane sightseeing tour.

Heading south towards Vancouver

takes you through Squamish and the Sea

to Sky Gondola which whisks you up

885 m to viewing platforms with stunning

views over Howe Sound and the

surrounding mountains. Also, take a train

ride in an underground mine and experience

the life of a miner in the early 1900s

at the Britannia Mine Museum.

WINTER CAMPING & RVING

Western Canada is growing as a winter camping destination with RV Parks and campgrounds now offering year-round camping

opportunities. Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, Vancouver, Coast and Mountains and Thompson Okanagan regions have the

mildest temperatures and offer the greatest choice for winter camping in Western Canada.

Weekly, monthly and seasonal rates are available at low season rates, with parks offering quieter RV sites in a predominantly adult

environment. Many year-round RV Parks and Resorts have a clubhouse where Snowbirds can mingle for pot luck suppers and other

events. Walking trails, local attractions and other activities are usually close by.

If you are a full time RVer, why not bring your motorhome, fifth wheel or travel trailer and make Western Canada your Canadian winter

camping destination of choice! The winter camping and RVing chart highlights campgrounds and RV parks offering winter stays. The listings

are organized by tourism region and refer the user to the summer listing for more information on the park and facilities.
