Cici

Meet our beautiful Cici! She is a

gentle, friendly girl, who would

love to find a new family, after

her person died. Cici is approx.

7 years young and she is

outgoing and craves attention.

We don't know anything about

her previous life, but believe Cici

would do best in a quiet home

with adults. Teens would be fine.

She will be a wonderful furry

friend for someone :) And who

can resist those beautiful big

green eyes?

Come and meet Cici at our

shelter in Webster, we are open

Thursday through Saturday from

12 to 3.30. Please call ahead

before your visit to avoid

disappointment.

The CCC is in need of

supplies, especially litter

(Scoop Away), bleach, laundry

kitten food (Purina/Friskies),

paper towels, trash bags, and

treats! Any help is very much

appreciated!

We are located at 289

WEBSTER IS FAST

BECOMING THE

PLACE TO DINE!

While it may seem as though

time has stood still for the last

14 months, there has been a lot

happening here in Webster.

Webster has always had a wide

variety of restaurants and very

soon we will be able to add a

few more to our list. In spite of

COVID-19 we had The Stave & Still

which offers a variety of dishes

using seasonal ingredients, open

at 131 Main St. For smoothies and

teas we had Factor Level Nutrition

open at 178 Main St. If Spanish

food is on your list we have two

options for you. Just Wing it at

548 S. Main St. has Spanish food

along with a variety of other items,

including pizza. Caribbean Grill

and Market at 248 Main St. has

Spanish food, sandwiches and a

small convenience store.

As we are seeing the light at the

end of the tunnel we have even

more choices coming our way!

Monte Bianco is moving from

their Thompson location to 140

Main St. Opened Tuesday May

18th with their amazing Italian

dishes. They will be BYOB until

their full liquor license comes in.

Also in May, Mike’s Crunchies

and Munchies will be opening.

Whether you are in the mood for

a snack or dinner they have you

covered at 38 Main St.

Opening a little later in the

summer we have an old favorite

coming back. Capellinis Italian

Restaurant at 141 Worcester Rd.

will be back with their wide variety

of food items. Also opening this

summer we have Brick oven pizza

coming to 175 Main St. For now

we can only enjoy their beautiful

mural, but soon we will be able to

enjoy their food and drinks.

And lets not forget about the

restaurants that have been in

town for a long time to bring you

your favorites!

Listed in alphabetical order we

have:

Alley Cat Diner, Apollo Pizza, B.

Kind Café, Big Belly Café, Bistro

Eighty Ates, Booklover's Gourmet,

Cakettes, Delray Docs, East Main

Café, Eastern Pearl, Empire Wok,

French River Taproom, Friendly’s,

Golden Greek, Himalaya Wok,

Lake Pizza, Mama’s Kitchen,

Mexicali, Northeast Pizza, Point

Breeze, Rainbow Pizza, Samuel

Slaters, Thai Cuisine, Thai

Lemongrass, The Lodge, The

Rose Room, Waterfront Mary’s,

Webster House of Pizza, and Wind

Tiki.

If you need something on the run

we also have a variety of fast food

restaurants in town to suit your

needs.

Whether the restaurant that

you go to has been in town for

decades or just opening up,

they have had to adjust a lot to

follow the guidelines and keep

customers and employees safe.

Please remember this if it means

you might have to be a little more

patient.

The Rose Room has offered

locally sourced, hand-crafted,

coffee, pastry, and retail for over

two years. Opening at 4 E. Main

in Webster in November 2018,

owners Jess and Bill Sabine

hoped to create a communitydriven

space, where people from

all walks of life could feel welcome

and enjoy local food from farms in

the area. They succeeded.

The cafe, previously open for

breakfast and lunch only, acquired

its liquor license in January 2021

and has quickly made moves

to create a seasonally inspired

dinner menu.

With summer right around the

bend, there is no better time to

buy local, farm-fresh ingredients,

and there will be no shortage of

them on the menu at The Rose

Room. Dishes and ingredients will

change with seasonal availability

and are promised to be delicious.

For the opening menu, local

cheeses from Jasper Hill and

Maple Brook Farms, tomato soup

with house-made ricotta, warm

hummus, and Swedish meatballs

grace the small plates section.

For a large portion, try the Maine

monkfish with chard and crispy

garbanzos, the vegan bolognese,

or another of the incredible

options offered.

Everything is local. Everything is

Dudley Police

Department

DUDLEY - National Missing

Children’s Day was Tuesday,

May 25th. Since it was first

established in 1983, National

Missing Children’s Day serves as

an annual reminder that there

are thousands of children who

are still missing and stresses

the importance of making child

protection a national priority. With

many of the COVID restrictions

lifted, this is a great opportunity

for parents to discuss safety

awareness with their children.

There are many ways to begin

discussions with your children on

safety topics. One of the programs

we have used in the past was

“Take 25.” Unfortunately, it has

been discontinued, however,

it was a national child safety

public awareness campaign

created by the National Center

for Missing & Exploited Children

(NCMEC). It encouraged parents

to take 25 minutes to talk to their

children about safety and ways to

prevent abduction. According to

NCMEC, every year in America,

an estimated 800,000 children

are reported missing, more than

2,000 each day. Of that number,

200,000 are abducted by family

members and 58,000 are

abducted by non-family members,

for which the primary motive is

sexual. Each year, 115 children

are the victims of the most serious

The “Take 25” program provided

some sample conversation starter

questions for parents. Here are

a few to consider should you

wish to engage your children in

this exercise. For kids ages 5-8:

Could you tell me our address?

How about our home, work, or cell

phone numbers? Has anyone ever

called or knocked on the door

while I was gone? What did you

do? Let’s make a list of 3 people

whom you can call in case of an

emergency. For children, ages

9-12: If something happened at

school that made you feel bad

or scared, would you tell me? Do

you think that it is safe to share

your passwords with your friends?

How about with your best friend?

For teens (13-18): What kind of

information do you feel is safe

to share about yourself online?

Are you comfortable with the

information that you have posted

online, knowing that it might be

seen by friends, officials at your

school, college and university

admissions departments, and

employers? Have you and your

friends talked about what types of

pictures are okay to post online?

What about the comments you

leave on each other’s’ pages?

TIPS TO GIVE BUGS

THE BOOT THIS

SUMMER

(StatePoint) Warm and wet spring

and summer conditions predicted

for much of the country are

going to make for an extra buggy

season, according to the biannual

Bug Barometer forecast from

the National Pest Management

Association.

• Drain the swamp: Standing

water can quickly become a

breeding ground for mosquitoes

and other bugs (and lead to a host

of other issues). It’s important

to know that the problem may

take some diagnosing, and could

require such actions as changing

the soil composition of your lawn

or grading the land to encourage

proper drainage. However,

managing this issue is well worth

the effort involved.

What’s more, ants, roaches and

stinging insects are well-equipped

at finding food and shelter in

and around your home, and they

are smarter than you may think.

However, you can take steps to

prepare for their arrival. For a

safe, healthy and comfortable

season at home, follow these pest

management tips:

• Don’t feed the insects: Without

proper precautions, your home

could inadvertently be the most

popular insect buffet in town. To

ensure you’re feeding just your

family and not a parade of bugs,

keep surfaces free of crumbs and

residue. Regularly sweep around

areas where food is prepared

and consumed. Wipe up spills

immediately and close food

containers securely. Be sure your

kitchen garbage has a tightlyfitting

lid.

• Blast bugs without harsh

chemicals. Killing bugs doesn’t

need to put you out of house and

home for hours or even minutes.

Today, there are effective

ways to kill bugs using friendly

ingredients. For example, Zevo

Ant, Roach and Fly Multi-Insect

Trigger Spray works on a broad

range of household bugs using

lemongrass oil and geraniol as

active ingredients. Zevo sprays

are deadly to bugs and safe for

use around people and pets when

used as directed, making them a

year-round household essential.

For more information, visit www.

zevoinsect.com.

• Safeguard entry points: Pests

enter the home most typically

through windows, doors and

the garage. To that end, patch

any holes or tears in screen

doors and windows, or better

yet, replace them entirely. Keep

doors, windows and the garage

otherwise closed.

While outwitting bugs is a bit more

challenging during summer, with a

few tricks up your sleeve, you can

keep your home safe and more

comfortable with fewer uninvited

guests.

community-based businesses

recover.

HOW FAMILIES CAN

HELP COMMUNITIES

REBOUND AFTER THE

PANDEMIC

The global pandemic that began

in late 2019 and spread into

2021 had a devastating impact

on the world. The human toll

was significant, as millions of

people across the globe lost

their lives to the COVID-19 virus.

The virus also had far-reaching

economic consequences, many

of which were felt in small towns

and communities that had been

thriving prior to the pandemic.

Vaccination rollouts that began

in the final weeks of 2020 gave

CONSTRUCTION

CO INC

many people a glimmer of hope

that life would soon return to

some semblance of normalcy. The

effort to restore towns and cities

will require a community-wide

effort, and families can do their

part as the world slowly emerges

from the pandemic.

• Support local businesses.

A recent survey from the expert

business mentors at Score®

found that just 34 percent of

small business owners

indicated their operations were

currently profitable in late

2020. The numbers were

even worse for minorityowned

businesses, as the

survey found that just 26.5

percent of Black business

owners had businesses that

were currently profitable

while the number was 29.2

percent among Hispanicowned

businesses. A thriving

local economy is a vital

component of a strong

community, and families can

do their part in the pandemic

recovery by making a

concerted effort to support

the small businesses in their

towns and cities, especially

those owned by minorities.

Support locally owned

restaurants instead of chain

restaurants when dining out or

ordering in. Even visiting a

locally owned barbershop

instead of a chain hair cutter

can be a great way to help

• Lend a hand to the elderly.

At the onset of the pandemic,

public health agencies like

the Centers for Disease Control

and Prevention and the World

Health Organization identified

elderly men and women as

among the most vulnerable to

serious illness if they were

infected with COVID-19. As

a result, many aging men

and women spent much of

2020 isolated from their

friends and families. Families

can help seniors in their

communities recover from

that isolation by volunteering

at local senior centers,

inviting aging neighbors over

for weekly dinners or inviting

them along on family outings

to the beach or park. Such

efforts can reassure seniors,

many of whom played

vital roles in building the

communities they call home,

that their neighbors have not

forgotten them.

• Take active roles in the

community. Recovering from

the pandemic won’t be easy

for any community. Some

small businesses closed for

good while others struggled to

stay afloat, and local towns

and cities lost significant tax

revenue as a result. Residents,

including adults and children,

can help their towns and

cities overcome budget

shortfalls by becoming more

active in their communities.

Organize initiatives like park

clean-ups to keep communities

clean if budget constraints

have forced local officials

to cut back on such services.

In addition, attend town or

city council meetings to lend

support to programs or even

recommend new initiatives to

help the community recover

from the pandemic.

Restoring communities after the

pandemic will be a tall task. But

it’s one that will be more easily

accomplished if families pitch in

and do their part.

FUN WAYS TO

CELEBRATE FATHER'S

DAY THIS YEAR

Father’s Day presents an

opportunity for people to honor

the special men in their lives.

These include not only dads, but

father figures and other influential

men who offer care and guidance

to the people they love.

Many celebrations continue to

look different than they were prior

to the pandemic, and Father’s Day

festivities may still require some

modifications this year, even if

celebrations are not governed by

the same restrictions as in 2020.

The following are some ways to

show dads they are appreciated.

Backyard bash

Restrictions on outdoor gatherings

have eased up considerably in

many areas. Outdoor parties are

some of the safer ways to bring

people together, particularly if

attendees maintain their distance.

Weather permitting, families

can host barbecues and enlist

someone other than Dad to man

the grill. Serve foods buffet-style

and space out tables so people

can safely celebrate.

Plan a sports outing

Professional sports teams are

once again welcoming fans to

stadiums and other venues,

albeit with reduced capacities

to maintain safety. It may be

possible to purchase tickets to

an upcoming game and surprise

Dad or Grandpa with tickets on

Father’s Day. Make Father’s Day

festivities sports-centric, with

coordinated decorations and

themed foods to set the scene.

Plan a game day

Whether your father likes board

games, video games or crossword

puzzles, gear Father’s Day around

fun and games. Let Dad lead the

way and choose the activity, and

then everyone can step away from

their screens and come together

at the table over jigsaw puzzles or

trivia questions.

Host a beer tasting

If Dad is a beer lover, organize

a trip to a local craft brewery

to sample their offerings. If

establishments are closed or still

restricting indoor seating, pick

up beers from a few different

breweries and create a flight at

home.

Set up an outdoor

movie night

Perfect for a father who is a

movie buff, borrow or purchase a

projector and show a movie on an

outdoor screen or against a blank

outdoor wall. Select one of Dad’s

favorite movies to watch and

invite friends and family to join in

on the fun. Make sure there are

refreshments at the ready and

plenty of hot popcorn.

Celebrating Father’s Day this year

may require some ingenuity, but

there is still fun to be had.
